Merida House Rental Photos and Description
House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5-8)

If you are looking for an elegant and luxurious home in the best location of the historic Centro of Merida at reasonable rents, one block from Parque Santiago, Casa de los Monos is it! On the corner of Calle 57 and Calle 74, this home is in Colonia Santiago, the best residential area in the city. Casa de los Monos is not a 'rental house.' Rather it is a private residence which is occasionally available to a few, responsible people for one month stays. Therefore, the furnishings, linens, art, and appointments are commensurate with what you expect to find in a private, luxury home.

The main floor living room has glass doors opening onto the heated pool. At one end you will find a beautiful tiled and fully equipped kitchen (with powder room) which opens to a lovely dining room with comfortable seating for 8. The other end of the living room opens to a large guest room with two double beds. The elegant and comfortable master bedroom has a queen size bed and opens onto a glassed in sitting room/office going out to the pool. A huge marble bathroom/dressing room connects the two main floor bedrooms. On the second floor is the third bedroom, beautifully decorated with a queen size bed and full bathroom. A balcony overlooks the pool

Two of the greatest Mayan pyramids (Chichen Itza and Uxmal) are within a two hour drive. Cancun and Guatemala are just 4.5 hours away. The lovely beach of Progreso with its beautiful new Malecon is only a 30 minute drive from Merida. Enjoy symphonies, ballets, theater, fine dining, incredible museums, galleries, modern movie theaters, and so much more in this beautiful 'White City' that looks like Paris. Taxis are very reasonable, and the shopping is incredible.

Weekly maid service included. Additional maid/cook service available at extra cost. Of significant importance, Merida has the lowest crime rate in Mexico. A strong police presence is everywhere. This is a very safe and friendly city.

The large exercise lap pool has fountains which flow into it, and the lighting at night is magical. The second floor bedroom will comfortably sleep two in a queen size bed. The other two bedrooms downstairs offer a queen size bed in one and two double beds in the other. All the downstairs rooms enjoy large glass windows and doors facing the pool. The ceilings are 18 feet high. The entire building has separate air conditioning in each room. The water is purified to a high standard and is safe to drink. There also is bottled water.

Come and enjoy one of the most beautiful areas you can imagine, as you relax in a lovely, historical home; enjoy the pool; relax to the music of the built-in stereo sound system; and explore World Heritage sites.

We stayed at this house for 3 weeks and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. The house is quite luxurious. There is plenty of privacy for 2 or more couples. The kitchen is well equipped and we were able to entertain friends comfortably. There is lots of shopping nearby and more than enough to do every day. The house is in a great location. We walked everywhere and could easily take buses to the beach or slightly more out of the way sites. The property was very well maintained and all the staff were friendly and most helpful.
Merida is a beautiful city with lots of museums, parks, restaurants and entertainment. We felt very safe all the time we were there. There are several tourist information offices located within easy walking distance where the staff are very well informed and helpful.
We had a wonderful vacation and have no qualms at all about recommending the property to friends and family alike.

We have stayed several VRBO locations in four countries and this is the best. As described, it is a private home owned by your friend Harold while he is away. It is very roomy and comfortable, the indoor pool being the focal point of everything. The sounds of cascading water and the georgeous fan palm and lighting make the patio area extremely pleasant and calming. Be careful or you will while away the day and miss what Merida has to offer. The proximity of Santiago park and grocery store (1 block) is a big convenience. Taxis come by the park every few minutes and will drop you in the main square for 80 pesos.
We did not prepare meals other than coffee and snacks, but the kitchen certainly offers everything you need. Harold has left his large CD collection, but don't hesitate to bring some Elvis or the Eagles from home. Beds are comfortable and plumbing is adequate, not always the case in Mexico. The two downstairs bedrooms are plush, but open onto the same master bath, so the occupants need to be family or close friends. The upstairs suite is a unique, private getaway featuring a bedroom, private deck onlooking the pool and small bath. After showering, step out onto the deck to dry off or just sit and relax.
The house manager,Lupita, is knowledgeable, helpful, responsive and friendly. We became friends and on our last night she took us to a marvelous steak house in her neighborhood north of El Centro.
Our first trip to Merida and. Did not allow ourselves enough time to explore the surrounding country side so we hope to return and enjoy Harold's hospitability again. If you stay here, you will not be disappointed.

The house is truly as lovely as the pictures show.Maybe even better. The lap pool was luxurious. I was surprised that the house was filled with works of art large and small and some good books too. Everything was in good taste. It was important to be shown around at the beginning as locking and unlocking doors can be tricky and finding the light switches was not always obvious. As some of our party arrived with viruses from the US, I was grateful that there was such a lovely kitchen and that the market and a grocery store were just a block away. (The food tasted sweeter and better than chicken or vegetables in the US.) It was an easy walk to the bigger squares and the shops. I love the colors of the buildings and the textures and the artistic touches everywhere. The city is renovating many houses in the Center. I'd also recommend Catherwood Tours to set up some special outings led by PhD archeologists and excellent guides. When we needed something the property manager was responsive. She picked us up at the airport. Nice.
