This is our 5th year spening a summer week in St. Joe's with our 2 small children. It is always much looked forward to summer trip, and have never been disappointed. St. Joe's is "Our Summer Town." We have rented from Jennifer and Ken before and have always been impressed at their attentiveness and professionalism. we look forward to next summer! Thank you Jennifer and Ken!
Owner's Response: We are delighted when families return to one of our properties. Thank you for staying with us again and please come back to "Our Summer Town" soon! Jennifer

St. Joe's Get-A-Way

Ken and Lin Cleveland, Ohio
Review Submitted: August 15, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
For the two of us, the accommodations of the Sunflower Cottage were ideal. Set in the quiet and quaint neighborhood along State Street, it was a short walk to get into town, a short walk to the beach and handy to everything we needed. Starting with the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra’s Encore Under The Stars performance and moving on to a band concert in the concert shell, the sidewalk chalk art fair, SMSO’s Casual Classics concert, lots of shopping (and lots of eating!) as well as being blessed with absolutely gorgeous weather so that we had loads of sun and fun on the beach, this get-a-way week couldn’t have been more glorious!!! And the Sunflower served as our hub throughout. Count us among the ranks of your satisfied customers.

Cottage Living In Town

I stayed three weeks at this charming cottage and would give it it's highest rating for location. You can't beat the quiet historic neighborhood with its proximity to the downtown and beach areas with all the city's attractions and summer activities but I did have to talk myself into leaving the comfy front porch with its easy rocking chairs. The cottage was as described and Jen and Ken were very hospitable and professional. I would be happy to return.

Thank you so much for letting us use your terrific cottage. We truly enjoyed our week at the Sunflower and look forward to using it again. All of the furnishings are in great shape and very comfortable and kid friendly. There was plenty of room for us and our two children in this clean and tidy house. The beds were extremely comfortable and we fell into them exhausted every night from all of the sun and fun we had down on Silver Beach. We were able to walk to the beach every day with our kids (ages 6 and 4) without any trouble and found the proximity to downtown perfect as well. The neighbors were friendly and we only wished we had another week to stay when it was time to go home. The amenities you provide were above and beyond in our opinion and we felt very well taken care of. This place is a bargain and we can not recommend it highly enough!

Nice Rental and Great Location

We stayed there the first week of June. It was nice to have a washer and dryer with available while traveling with two small children. The kitchen and bathroom have been tastefully remodeled recently. This location is very close to downtown and Silver Beach which was great.

You can tell the owner is updating this property and I like what they have done so far. The home is in good shape and was very clean. Overall, a good experience.

My daughters and I spent a long weekend at Sunflower Cottage and we really liked the location, and it was spacious enough for the four of us. However, we were disappointed that we walked into a place that definitely needed a spring cleaning, both inside and out. I hope that the owners take this into consideration if they want to continue to offer an attractive place to stay. I was also disappointed that we ran out of gas when getting ready to grill some juicy steaks. I really do not like to focus on the negative, but the place would be so much more appealing if it had a clean exterior and a freshly painted porch.
Don't think I'd come back to this cottage as it is. Carol,
Owner's Response: We're pleased you like the location and found the house spacious enough for 4 adults. The day after you checked out we had the railing replaced on the front porch. We painted the house two years ago and are surprised that it needs another coat of paint, but it is a vintage home. Michigan weather took it's toll this winter and we couldn't paint until the weather warmed up. We had contracted to have the house re-painted but it was after their stay. As for the gas grill we can't predict when it will run out, but we do try to have a spare tank on hand. Next time, please let us know if that happens and we'll bring a full one right over.

I wanted to let you know that my family and I had a great time staying at the Sunflower. Your house met our needs perfectly. For example, walking distance to downtown and close proximity to the beach. It had sufficient space for us (two adults and three small kids) with room to spare. We also appreciated that the house was very clean and the furniture was in good shape. We hope to stay again next summer.
Owner's Response: Thank you. We're pleased that the house fit your needs perfectly! Jennifer

Jennifer and Ken,

Thank you so much!
Sunflower Cottage like its name, it is a very nice place to stay... We have stayed there for more than three months. My wife and I wish we could stay there longer... It has every thing you need from cooking ware to lundary, from cable to wireless internet, just like your house...
reasonable cost, not so big, not so small, quite and beautiful. We walked to beach every day to see the sunset, take the real fresh air and to catch the golden sunshine in the far far away horizon. Wow, just miss it... such a wouderful vacation home near great Lake Michigan in this small city/town! Here you will feel it is your Lake.

Dear Jennifer and Ken, We loved our visit to St. Joe and your precious cottage over Memorial Day weekend! Your home is adorable, very homey and had everything we needed. The location was perfect for walking to amazing Silver beach and the quaint little downtown. We felt like we were in Mayberry.
We enjoyed eating breakfast and having coffee on the front porch and all the friendly people who walked by and said hello.
Thanks again! We hope to be back soon!
