Sept. 2006 - Hiawatha's Hideaway is a fantastic place to stay, I'd highly recommend it to anyone! The cabin is huge, and extremely clean, very well taken care of. The basement bath is like a spa in the woods! Also, Lisa and Tom have thought of everything you'll need - just bring food, clothes, and your camera! There's even a dishwasher, 'cause who wants to wash dishes when you're on vacation! Plus there's a store within walking distance.
You won't believe how dark it is at night - the sky looks like velvet it's so full of stars. And it's so quiet we slept like babies! We enjoyed the firepit out back, and the huge backyard, with tons of trees just starting to turn colors - spectacular! The big deer that strolled across the yard one evening was beautiful!
There are plenty of things to do close by - tons of waterfalls, pictured rocks boat cruises, glass bottom boat shipwreck tours, and the Seney National Wildlife Refuge (we saw swans, bald eagles and loons there!). We highly recommend all of the above! Not to mention the hiking, we simply crossed the road and hiked the McKeever ski trails every day, they're really nice, very wide, and quiet (no vehicles allowed), with plenty of views of lakes, huge trees, tons of birds, and photo ops everywhere you turn! Check out Mocassin Lake also, the sunset will be amazing, and the boardwalk area near the intersection of 13 and 28. Oh, and don't forget to get some pasties from Muldoon's in Munising! Delicious!
Obviously, I can't say enough about this place, and the area! We will definitely go back, and recommend that you check this place out for yourselves!
