Studio apartment

I stayed nearly 3 weeks at the studio apartment in Charlotte's beautiful 17th century canal house. It met all my needs. I could walk everywhere I wanted to go...even Central Station. Tram stops, restaurants, sights and grocery stores were nearby. Charlotte even let me borrow her museum card which made my stay a wonderful cultural experience. She was most helpful but not intrusive. Not having to climb very steep steps was a bonus. The studio is facing the canal and located on the lower level, only a few steps down. I highly recommend this studio for a single traveler or a couple. Thanks, Charlotte.

Wonderful little house and a great location

My wife and I stayed in Charlotte's garden house for six nights. We loved it. My wife thought the little house in the garden was romantic and felt at home. The location was great because the house was in a beautiful historic neighborhood. The Hermitage, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gough and the Stedelijk museums were all within a 10 minute walk from the house. My wife loves to cook and there was a nice grocery store and bakery right around the corner. Dam Square is walkable but we preferred to take the tram that runs by the grocery store. I also recommend you see the windmills at Zaanse Schans, you can take a bus there from Amsterdam’s Central Station. Charlotte had great tips for the city. I cannot say enough nice things about Charlotte and the house. My only negative is the mattress on the bed sagged in the middle. Not the most comfortable, but all the positives of our stay so surpassed the mattress we didn't mind. We would love to stay there again.

Lovely Hideaway in Center of Amsterdam

My travelling companion and I travelled to Amsterdam and stayed in Charlotte's lovely cottage in mid-September. It was as charming and wonderful as we had hoped and as was advertised. The description was accurate, as were the photos on VRBO. Charlotte made herself available even though we had trouble communicating our arrival time because of lost internet access at our previous stop in Belgium. Her home sits on a lovely part of the Prinsengracht canal and is centrally located, safe and easy access to the sites of Amsterdam. The cottage was spotlessly clean. Charlotte shared tips on when to visit certain sites including going later in the day to Anne Frank Huis, where to eat and shop and how to make the most of your stay in Amsterdam. The cottage was delightful. The loft bed is very comfortable and roomy, the bed on the main floor was excellent, also. We didn't cook really, but made our coffees and had take-out one night, so the kitchen was perfect. Charlotte supplies plenty of books on local sites, etc., too. It truly was like coming home each evening. A couple of tips: for Dutch pastries, don't miss Holtkamp around the corner; Charlotte's recommendation for Panini's is spot on; we loved the Village Bagel place on the corner and the AH grocery just beyond it. Don't miss the Albert Cuyptmarkt street market just to the south. Dam Square and eveything in between is an easy and safe walk--so are the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh in the other direction. Sit on the bench in front of the house and watch life on the street and the canal go by; it is mesmerizing. Visit the discount store Hema for necessities at a reasonable price. Thanks again to Charlotte for all of her help and for being such a gracious hostess. We'll never forget our visit. --Sue And Brenda

Wonderful location, apartment and owner!

The garden apartment was full, so we stayed in the basement apartment. It was cosy and just right for my husband, child and I, with the addition of an air mattress for our child. The kitchen is well-equipped with a fridge, sink, and stove. There are pots, dishes, and silverware. There were some condiments and coffee/tea available too. I can't say enough nice things about Charlotte, the owner, who immediately made us feel right at home. She directed us to a flower market where she was going to shop and then even helped us to communicate with a vendor. She loaned us museum cards, answered questions and just immediately felt like old friends. Charlotte also called us a cab the day before we were to leave the next morning for a very early flight. The grocery store around the corner will have everything you need to take full advantage of staying in the apartment. There is an ATM inside the grocery. This is also on the same street as the Anne Frank House, but is a bit of a walk. We walked it in about 25 minutes. All in all, this was a great stay. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a basic place to stay, in a great location, and with an owner that is fabulously kind.

Wonderful place and felt like 'home' within minutes. Charlotte is very gracious and welcoming. Location is perfect to get around on foot to everything Amsterdam has to offer. Easy to grab tram to Central Station to get out of town on day trips also if you want. Cottage is cozy (smaller) but SO well laid out and set up. Beautiful setting and highly recommended. Will stay there each and every time in Amsterdam. Can't imagine a hotel stay now! Grocery store around the corner and lots of restaurants within a couple blocks.

Great little home says family with a 2 year old

This little house is great. It was and had everything stated in the ad. I appreciated how quiet it was and that there was a little garden for my daughter to wander around in. And I could watch her from the windows.
Charlotte was a great host and very helpful.
I would strongly suggest this place if you're like us - not the type to go out at night much (besides dinner).

Looking back at our 2 weeks in the 'dam, my wife said it all "It was our best big city vacation yet". Words of advice -
1.ask Charlotte for her museum card - saves money and time in the lineups.
2.Use the Albert Hein grocery around the corner - good food, plus beer and wine.
3.Try Mike's bikes for a country bike tour - join Petra's group, she's a hoot.
4.Buy a 24 hour pass on the canal tours - you can then enjoy all 5 canal tours on the one ticket. The candlelight tour was great - another perspective of 'dam, and unlimited wine.
5.There's an ATM just down from the grocery.
6.Train station ticket machines don't take credit/debit cards from US/Canada. If the ticket office is closed, you're in a pickle. Always buy return tickets - we learned, but had family to bail us out. 7.Showering in the garden house takes a little getting used to - the toilet shares the same space as the shower. Just be nimble like jack.

We'll be back!!!

Wonderful Stay in Amsterdam

I spent a very happy month in this charming apartment. This was in no small part due to the kindness and helpfulness of Charlotte, the owner. Thank you, Charlotte. It was a wonderfully peaceful, private retreat after a hectic day of activities. It is not luxurious but it is comfortable and authentic. There is everything in the apartment that you could need during the course of your stay. Just be aware that the most comfortable bed is reached via a ladder. There are many TV channels in English - more than you usually get! The wifi reception was excellent. It is very well located for access to all the places you might want to see - many of them accessible on foot or by the trams which are quite close by.

Beautiful garden cottage

Lovely garden cottage in fabulous location. Upper bed requires a nimble climb, but the garden views are worth it. Exquisite views, quiet retreat, steps from transportation, perfect for refreshing solitude after museum visits. Had privilege of FOUR generations of ladies having tea in the garden! A bit like having one's own 17th century Amsterdam canal house: Yes, the canal Prinsengracht is right outside the front door. Definitely will return should we revisit Amsterdam, which we hope to do! Charlotte is a talented, professional industrial designer...be sure and ask her about the marvelous steel world clock she invented.

The perfect place!! Beautiful, private and close to everything!

My husband and I stayed here this winter. We could not have asked for a more perfect place. It is close to everything but not so close that you get street noise. The owner is very kind, accommodating, and helpful but not in least bit intrusive. There are 2 grocery stores around the corner (one organic!) and plenty of restaurants around. We have 0 complaints. It couldn't have been better.
