We just returned from a wonderful stay at Alice and Bruce's Kona Reef condo. Everthing written about their place was accurate to a tee. It was immaculate, was right on the water -a direct ocean front view, and just a few minute walk to the restaurants. The Kona Reef also has a lovely pool and BBQ area if you are in the mood to just hang and cook at the condo.
There are many restaurants nearby but our favorite was Jackie Rey's Ohona Grill. It's very close and we walked up to it. I suggest going right on Alii drive until you get to Yama's (rental place) and walk up the hill. It will take about 10 minutes tops.
If we return to Kona one day, we will definitely stay at Bruce and Alice's. They live locally and are available if you have any needs. Our only need was asking where he bought the tasty macadamia nut brittle that they supplied in their welcoming gift basket.

A huge Mahalo to Bruce and Alice for providing the perfect home for our vacation!!! Five nights was not enough time to enjoy the condo and that side of the island. We have stayed in many VRBO properties on the various islands and I would have to say this one was by far the best!! Location was excellent, close to walk to town and condo had so many wonderful supplies!! It was such a nice surprise to find a fully stocked kitchen, spices, baggies, paper plates, fresh sponge, etc. The closet was loaded with sunscreen, towels, ice chest, chairs. Although, when we return, we will bring our own beach chairs as the ones supplied were "child like" size and one was slightly broken. We fell in love with the Kona Reef complex and are hoping someday to be able to afford to buy a unit there!! The BEST Mai Tai ever can be found at the beautiful open-air bar next door at the Don the Beachcomber bar in the Royal Kona resort. Great prices during happy hour 4-6. We also rented a private 21 foot boat from Eric at Kona Boat rentals. Fresh fish can be purchased at Bite Me fish market at the Harbor.
I cannot say enough good things about D-26 and we are looking forward to spending more time there in the very near future!! Again, Bruce and Alice..thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

The location of this condo is perfect! We enjoyed sitting out on the deck with our coffee in the morning, watching surfers and hearing the ocean waves. In the evening, we watched beautiful sunsets from the deck and the lawn below. The condo is a short walk to Kona for dinner and the local farmers market - try the apple bananas, they are delicious. As noted by earlier reviewers, the condo comes fully stocked with beach gear. This is a lovely place to stay!

Bruce and Alice have truly created a great experience for anyone wanting a great vacation rental at a great price. Easy reservation process made me think this was going to be good, and it was! We arrived to a very clean, very nicely furnished home, and a very nice gift basket (not used to that and was greatly appreciated after traveling! thank you!). Open the sliding doors and you can hear the surf on the beach. it is truly steps to the water. if i had a fishing rod i could have hit the water. The complex is very nice and clean and lots of parking is idea. the complex has been updated and is looking very nice. Pool area clean and all bar-b-ques work. A close distance to lots of great restaurants (check out Huggos on the rocks, take your flip flops off and place your feet in the sand as you enjoy a great dinner - that was our local spot!) and shops. Very easy access to town yet this unit was very quiet and clean. I would rent again and will recommend to all my friends to rent if wanting a nice little Kona waterfront condo. Nice job guys!!

What a great place to spend a vacation. Perfect location for Kona, just a short walk into town and none of the traffic or crowds. Plenty of parking. Luckily, it's the same short walk back after exploring Kona and an evening dinner. Out on the balcony, from sunrise to sunset, get to watch boogey boarders and the occassional surfer work the waves. Two mornings we got to see a large pod of Spinner Dolphins jumping out of the water as they made their way south for whatever interested them there. Not quite as thrilling as seeing a whale breach but fun to see anyway (and they really do spin when they jump out of the water). Condo is well stocked and comfortable for 2 people. Even comes with all the beach gear you will need, chairs, mats, ice chests, towels, etc. Very nice to have washer and dryer in condo and the soap too. Worst part of staying here is trying to get going in the mornings. You're on the balcony sipping your morning coffee, munching on some fresh fruit, watching the comings and goings down on the ocean and it is really hard to try and motivate yourself to get up and leave to go do something else. What a problem! But I guess you'll just have to find out for yourself. Last thing, if you happen to wake up in the middle of the night it's well worth getting up and going out and sit on the patio and just look out on the ocean and listen to the waves break. It's almost like your the only person on the earth -and it doesn't matter.

The pictures don't do this condo justice. Beautiful ocean view along with the sound of the waves. Everything is provided. Condo is clean and well maintained, owner even called to make sure we had everything we needed.

Perfect location right on the ocean. Great sunset views at a wonderful condominium. Clean, well maintained and very well stocked. Owner phoned upon our arrival to make sure all was well. This is a great value and a fantastic place to enjoy your Big Island vacation.

This was our first visit to Kailua-Kona and we weren't disappointed. D-26 is situated perfectly - a very short walk to town and restaurants, or you can relax on the lanai with the waves crashing in front of you. From early morning to early evening, you would often see locals surfing or catching some great waves on boogie boards. Or, you can meander down to the water's edge and check out sea turtles in the tidal pools.

The condo is very clean and has everything you need to make the stay enjoyable. When we arrived, the lights had been left on and a lovely basket of fruit and other goodies were left to welcome us - a very special treat. An added touch was the package of coffee beans - fresh Kona coffee each morning, mmmm!

When Bruce said that we wouldn't need to bring anything more than a swimsuit, he was right. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, blow-dryer...a well-stocked kitchen, a stash of books, DVDs, binoculars, beach towels, snorkelling equipment, and so much more. And, having full laundry facilities in-suite makes this feel like a vacation with the conveniences of home.

While you may want to cook many of your meals at the condo and spend much of your time relaxing at the pool, on the water's edge, or on your lanai...there were some local places that we thought were worth noting:
Food:
Lava Java (breakfast, lunch, or dinner...or just a coffee) - BYOB - no corkage fee
Basik Acai & Health Bar (amazing cold acai bowls with granola, fruit, etc),
Kona Brewery (pizza...and beer!)
Lighthouse Delicatessen - in Hawi - wow, BBQ pork sandwich is amazing!

Road bike rental - BikeWorks - great staff, incredibly helpful, well-maintained and good quality bikes
Stand-up Paddleboarding
Boogie boarding
Night snorkelling with Manta Rays - out of Kona (wow...absolutely spectacular!)
Day snorkelling - large sea turtles, eels, a variety of beautifully-coloured fish
Cycling - IM bike course, but there are some great hilly rides on quieter roads that you can also try.
Hike/walk - continue past Hawi and hike down into the Pololu Valley - beautiful black sand beach.

Guaranteed...we will return to Kona as there are so many things that we didn't get the chance to see and do. Bruce & Alice's condo at the Kona Reef will be the first place we'll check for availability when making arrangements for accommodations. Thank-you for making this a trip to remember.
