My First time to the Keys

I run a restaurant in the tourist town of Eureka Springs in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas and usually spend our down time on the beaches of South Walton on the panhandle of Florida. Since we had friends doing the annual Key West art show, we decided to get together for some fun times.
I do quite a bit of research before I vacation in a new area. I wanted to experience the best the Keys had to offer since my wife and I would be spending 17 days. After quite a few hours online I chose Cudjoe Key as a base to look for accommodations. We wanted to experience the history of Key West, its shops, restaurants and landmarks. Beach time is also important to us and nearby Bahia Honda State Park has one of the best beaches in Florida, a scarce commodity in the Keys. Conch Cottages are ideally located for that perfect vacation.
We like history and it is always a part of any vacation we take. Conch Cottages were built in the 1920s and have been restored with all the modern amenities. The owners are very aware of what you need when you are traveling away from home and stock it quite well. The cottages reflect a part of Florida history that is hard to find and quickly disappearing in high-rise-condo-everywhere Florida.
The grounds are beautiful. I can't say enough about the incredible variety of tropical plants and the way the property fronts a wide expanse of ocean. A small pool is set on a sandy area surrounded by coconut trees, and if you are lucky and the owner Mike is there, you might get to try one of his concoctions using a fresh coconut and an adult beverage. There is also a small boat launch area and slips for four boats. Our friends who usually have a boat nearby, said they will be back, but will bring their boat with them next time.
We were able to relax ocean side, or sit on the screened-in porch at night chatting with friends, or cooking up some fresh seafood we bought at one of the seafood shops only a couple blocks away. The satellite tv has a wide arrange of channels and was nice to have those few hours we weren't running in to Key West or heading to the beach.
The other benefit to the location of Conch Cottages is the joy of finding two of the top ten restaurants in the Keys were only minutes away and Mangrove Mama's was just down the road. Do not miss the Square Grouper and Kaya Island Eats. Thanks to Mike and his lovely place the four of us had a great time and will be back. You won't find a better place to enjoy the best of the Keys.

A great place to see the keys!

A few weeks ago we stayed here and had a wonderful time! The weather was great in the 80s during the day and 70s at night. The cottage was well equipped. It was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for cooking and grilling. Its a great location to explore the keys or to go to key west or the beach. The supermarket was a bit of a drive about 8 miles but there's a little store right outside the gate to the property that sells just about everything we needed. It costs a little more but it was worth the time saved. We met some nice people in the other cottages and had a great time. Can't wait to go back!

We had such a memorable trip!

We really enjoyed ourselves at the cottage! We had such a memorable trip! We loved the laid back atmosphere and a great shindig by the pool!! Having all the fruit trees around with the beautiful ocean kept us pretty relaxed. Michael was wonderful in making sure everyone had everything they needed. We met lots of great people during our stay and we look forward to our next vacation to the cottage!

Excellent spot away from crowded key west!

My wife and kids loved this place..Owner was always available and very Polite on the phone for any questions.The Unit was clean, Kitchen was nice with all utensils. Even though it was not listed there was WiFi available. Violet, the cleaning lady always wants to help. Tony the handyman was cool.,I went on a party boat fishing from keywest and brought back 60 fish fillets one day (snappers & grunt). second day i went with paradise fishing charters key west and caught a 25lb King Fish. I wish there was a Fish Cleaning Station in the property .The Pool was good, there was a kayak which we could use.I wish if they had a fishing pole i could use, I could not get my Fishing gear on the plane. Next time i will rent a boat and go fishing. I will defnitely go back again..

I think this property needs an updated "2012" review so here goes…
There are several buildings on the property, a very nice looking ocean view permanent structure and several trailer homes. We were placed in the last trailer which is closest to the road.
I think the most misleading part of this description is "fully remodeled". Adding a coat of paint and caulk does not qualify as "fully remodeled" in my book. The bathtub has quarter-round moulding caulked onto it to hide rot and the tile is going to fall off the walls soon. The showered sprays like a pressure washer from calcium build up so I hope you like a hard shower. The light fixture is rusty, and the sink is held to the wall by inch thick caulk. No door in the unit closed correctly and the screen door on the front porch lets in mosquitoes. Internet is so weak you can only connect sporadically. Cell phone reception is bad.
Outside the pictures of the pool/ocean area completely dated. It does not look like that anymore. The cement around the pool is cracked, and sugar ants live in the cracks. The whole pool area was fully of tiny, harmless ants. The pool needs to be drained and bleached as the bottom has pool scum. My son's ball got sucked into the filter and when I retrieved it I found the filter full of debris. The water view is spectacular however. I could not find a single fruit tree, unless you count coconut. You will need to drive very carefully unless you have a truck b/c the entrance has very deep pot holes. There is a coded gate, but it was wide open all week and was not locked once.
The people who run the place are very nice. The view of the water of great, and the location in Cudjoe Key is perfect for accessing all of the lower keys. Key West is 20 min away. If you are looking for a place to sleep 4 people this may be an option, but if you believe you are getting the home in the picture you will be disappointed. This property is in serious need of TLC.

Nice property

This was a nice property. Decently maintained, nice landscaping, and the owners were very nice and easy-going. There was pleanty of parking for boats or trailers. Good value for money. The cottages are like duplexes, so you'll be sharing a wall, but it wasn't a problem for our group. You couldn't see the ocean unless you were outside, but it was only a short little walk to the pool and dock which were nice for sunning and relaxing. CoCo's Cantina which is right across the street has very good food and very friendly owners, and you can catch the bus to Key West from there as well. Fanci Seafood Company about a mile up the road has wonderful, fresh-caught seafood. Kicken' back convenience store is less then a mile away and it has most of the things you would need to stock a kitchen for vacation. There isn't a grill at each cottage, only at the main house. Also, it will sleep six, but not very comfortably! I would only recommend four. Overall, we had a great time. Our security deposit was returned very promptly and we had no problems at all with anything going wrong in the house.

Perfect week

Just got home from a wonderful week staying at this property.Our group of four couples rented two of the cottages. The cottages were clean and well maintained. We all loved the pool and oceanside water view.We fished right off the dock, and everyone enjoyed our lunches by the pool. Michael and Soo were easy to reach and answered all of our questions and concerns. Location was great, close enough to all there is to do in Key West, and far enough away to relax and really enjoy the lower keys. I would recommend this property to all my friends, and am definitely planning another trip as soon as possible.
