Spent a Week Here

This home is located outside of Harbor Springs on a very quiet small drive with just 3 other homes. The homes on either side are magnificent. This property is the only rental. The porch is fabulous with lots of wicker furniture and a nice swing. It has a nice view of the lake although you cannot see the beach at all due to all the trees, etc. We loved the porch for morning and evening chats and eating as well. The cottage is 100+ years old with wooden floors and I'm sure all the original woodwork. Antique lovers will adore it. Two families spent the week totaling 13 people. We had plenty of room including plenty of sleeping space. One bed was actually never used. The kitchen is small, but adequate, with a nice electric stove, frig, dishwasher, and all the necessary kitchen tools etc. along with gas and charcoal grills outside. The downstairs bathroom has been remodeled and is nice with tons and tons of towels. The upstairs bathroom is small with a claw foot tub. We could have used more bathroom space with our number of people but scheduling was not an issue. There is only one TV in the main living room and wireless internet as well. The landscaping is lovely surrounding the 30-40 steps which lead down to the private beach. The beach was very rocky along with the sand. A new dock was installed this year but the rocks reach far out into the water. I would suggest some type of water shoes. Many children's toys are provided on the beach but the kayaks and boat lying there are not yours to use. This home does not have AC and we were there during an extremely warm week in Mich. The breeze off the lake did help at night, but many times the house was stuffy. This home is centrally located to nearby Petoskey which I enjoyed more than Harbor Springs. We visited Petoskey State Park beach and spent the day on a boat at Lake Charlevoix. We also visited Mackinaw Island which is a 40 min drive. The golf course at the top of the drive as of this year (2011) no longer accepts non-members. My son, the golfer, was able to find another course nearby. I would not agree that this home is a short walk to town; its over a mile with no sidewalks and no area really conducive to walking. A bike ride perhaps - or a short drive to town. Visit Yummies in Harbor Springs for ice cream. It was delish. I fell in love with Northern Michigan; it seemed like Florida with pine trees. The lakes are lovely and I hope to visit again.
