A true pied a terre in the heart of London Theatre

Review Submitted: May 16, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
My wife and I spent 7 nights in this fabulous flat. The location is especially good for a theatre goer as excellent restaurants with pre-theatre meal specials and the theatres themselves are all within walking distance. However, excellent underground and bus connections and proximity to the National Gallery, Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, St. Martin's, and the British Museum make this a great location for anyone (we walked to Westminster). The apartment is well appointed with all needed dishes and pans etc. The two sofa love seats and the bed are very comfortable. The building is very quiet and the washer, dryer and dish washer make vacation a vacation! The owner is extremely cooperative and arranged to let us into the apartment very early on a Sunday morning (so nice to get that post trans-Atlantice nap!). Everything is as promised and expected. I would gladly stay there again (and hope to do so soon!)

Perhaps the best thing about this flat is its location, right in the heart of central London and literally within a stone’s throw of Leicester Square tube station which makes for easy access to Heathrow.

The owner was very responsive to communication starting from the initial inquiry all the way through to the completion of my stay and was receptive to some suggestions which would make for a more comfortable environment for future guests.

The building itself is very secure, with electronic access and CCTV cameras. An elevator allows easy access to the third floor flat which itself can be locked with two keys, adding to the security.

The theatres of the West End are all within walking distance and Covent Garden is a short 5 min stroll up the newly pedestrian-friendly Long Acre with its variety of shops. Shopping for groceries is convenient with Marks & Spencer’s food hall just across from Covent Garden tube station and Tesco just a block away at the end of Garrick Street.

For tourists and theatre goers, the location cannot be beaten. Mostly all the sights are easily within walking distance, all but eliminating the need to pay fares on the Tube or bus. But do remember that this flat is deep in the heart of central London which is literally bursting at the seams with people (most of whom are tourists). So if you want to be in amongst the action and close to all the sights and attractions, this is the place for you. For a more peaceful retreat, you might prefer to check out areas such as Bloomsbury and Chelsea which are quieter and still offer access via Tube and/or bus to all the sights.

Within the flat, the kitchen was well-appointed and all appliances worked properly, including the washer and dryer. The triple glazing blocks out the noise from the street below but in warm weather, opening the windows does bring the street noise with it. So, in the hotter months of July & August, keeping yourself cool will likely mean putting up with some of the street noise below.

The Wi-Fi internet access worked beautifully and for me was essential, not only for keeping in touch with family, but for such things as checking out train schedules for day-trips into rural England, buying theatre tickets etc. If you have Skype on your Wi-Fi-enabled laptop, then calling friends and family back home can be so much less expensive than making a regular phone call.

This flat and its location are definitely worth considering for a stay in London.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and found it was was a great way to enjoy London. It is hard to imagine a more convenient location--easy walking distance to Picadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and not a long walk to Westminster Abbey and Houses of Parliament. We took in three theatre performances, all within 2-3 blocks from the flat. The tube was half a block away. The place is small but adequate for two adults. Having a kitchen made it possible to have coffee, breakfast, etc.without having to go out for every meal.
Hardest part was finding it. It might help others to know that the building is just past the Subway Sandwich Shop on same side of street.
We hope to stay here again.

The apartment is well maintained with all the amenities promised. It was very easy to deal with the owner who was straightforward and wanted to make sure we were satisfied. The location is great, easy to get everyplace either on foot or by public transport. The tube is a block away. There are plenty of restaurants and there's a supermarket a couple of blocks away. Although the apartment is not very large, the layout is logical and the furniture was adequate and comfortable. The bed is only a standard double. The wireless internet worked well. We like to walk and walked to the British Museum and the British Library, the National Gallery and St. Martin's in the Field. Getting to the museums in the South Kensington area takes only about 15 minutes by the tube.

We will definitely consider staying there again and have already recommended the apartment to friends.

This is a very comfortable apartment in an excellent location -- only a two minute walk from Leicester Square.the owner was extremely responsive to our needs and requests, as well as to our suggestions for a few improvements that would make the apartment even more comfortable. We also found the availability of a high-speed internet connection very convenient, as it allowed up to keep in touch with family and friends and up to date on U.S. news in the week before the presidential election. We'd definitely stay here again.

Perfect Apartment in Theatre District

This was my first experience with HomeAway, and it was a huge success. The owner of this apartment was a pleasure to deal with from the beginning of the process. He promptly answered all my questions via email, and he was at the apartment to welcome me upon arrival.

This apartment is perfectly located. I could walk to every theatre in the West End, to Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, etc. The first thing I did every morning was walk a block to the half-price tickets booth and select a show for the afternoon or evening. Then I walked a block and jumped on the Tube and went wherever I wanted to go.

The apartment was amazingly quiet. The one concern I had was that it might be noisy at night. But the apartment has two sets of windows--not double-paned as we have in the US, but actually two sets of windows--so that hundreds of folks could be walking around after the theatre, but the apartment was quiet, quiet, quiet.

There's a market for food within a couple blocks, an excellent sandwich shop across the street, an internet place across the street, and major shopping a block away.

The apartment has everything--even a washer and dryer. And the elevator worked perfectly. Do know it is a small apartment--but then you're probably not going to be giving huge parties there. Think of a small apartment in a convenient area in a great city.

One more thing: I was a woman traveling alone (until the last night when my traveling companion arrived for the rest of our European adventure), and I felt perfectly safe in the building. It is quite secure with a key to open the building and other keys for the apartment. I am a fairly fearless traveler, but I know some folks worry about these things.

I've already recommended the apartment to friends and family, and I would definitely stay there again. I love to travel (70+ countries so far), and frequently rent timeshare condos. It's great to have a home when you're away.

This apartment is a real find.

Great deal in great location

The property was perfect for two or three. Clean and comfortable with an incredible location just steps off Leicester Square, the West End and Covent Garden.Small, but fully and completely equipped including washer, dryer and dishwasher in a safe building. Nice kitchen though close to many good restaurants. Owner was easy to work with, full of local advice, and took personal checks in dollars which was a huge plus for us..I would recommend this flat without reservation. Have already done so to friends visiting London. Only drawback would be for elderly or handicapped who might have trouble getting in and out of high shower/bath combo. No steps to climb to apartment--elevator building. Wonderful value for price!
