We came to S.C. for my son's graduation from basic training at Ft Jackson (it's about a 1 hr drive from the cottage, but well worth staying here). We needed a place that we could cook our own meals, that would accomodate 5-6 people & have a nice vacation as well. I was more than pleased with this place & could not have asked for anything better. The landscape of the property was beautiful, we had our own private beach, the price was reasonable & John & Nita were some of the nicest people that we have ever met. Don't let the name cozy cottage fool you because with the five of us never felt crowded, even when we were all together in the living room or on the screened in porch. We did not feel like we were on top of each other & there was plenty of space to move around. We rented their pontoon, John took us out to see the Purple Marlins coming in to roost, we went tubing, fishing, cooked out & that was just around the cottage. We went to Columbia & saw the State Capitol & the Govenor's Mansion Gardens, which were both free (if you want to tour the mansion itself you must call ahead in case the family is home). We went down to Charleston & saw Magnolia Plantation, The Battery/Whitepoint Gardens, went to Folly Beach & ate at JB's Smokeshack. We had family day at the base, followed by graduation day. In the end, none of us wanted to leave as this was one of the best vacations that we had ever had, if not THE best. It was very relaxing here & during the week, when no one is out on the lake, you feel like your got the lake to yourself & Lake Murray is HUGE. Also, you would not think that getting some heavy rain from Faye would be enjoyable, but if it had not rained, we would have never know that the rock gardens throughout the yard actually double as waterfalls, how clever! I would recommend this place to any traveler coming through this area who would like to relax or even come to see your Soldier. They mentioned that they do weddings & I believe that this would be a beautiful place to do that as well. I would like to thank John & Nita for everything, I felt like I was visiting family even though I had never met them before. I would love to come back again sometime in the future & I will never forget the wonderful time we had. I suggest that you at least stay for a week (cause your not going to want to leave) & make sure you read their guest book it says nothing but great things about the other guests trips here.
