Have just returned from Simply Baku and are trying hard to get back into home and work mode. Simply Baku was, simply, wonderful. We have stayed in many different places in Mexico over the years, and would have to say that Mike and Marianne's beach houses are easily the best accommodation we have experienced. The Jacobs have put a lot of thought and effort into each phase of Simply Baku. Well designed, well built, well finished, and well decorated, everything, from the placement of the casitas to the coffee beans every morning, speaks of simplicity and comfort. The quiet, direct thoughtfulness of the hosts make Simply Baku simply superior to even the pretensiosnesss of so much luxury accommodation in Mexico and elsewhere. If you are looking for a relaxed, comfortable beach vacation, off the beaten track, these well-maintained casitas may be just what you need.
The only proviso is that you check your dates. A couple of times a year, this Catholic pueblo has
religious festivals that involve enthusiastic nocturnal detonation of fireworks. This happens in a lot of
Mexican pueblos, so if sleep is something you crave, you should always check your dates before booking.
Points of interest: the aforementioned religious festivals are also great excuses to celebrate, and the town square is a great place to hang of an evening. Buses and collectivos couldn't be easier and cheaper to use. You can take day trips up Punta Mita, Sayulita, Bucerias and of course, PVR by these means. The drivers take their responsibility to get you to the right stop quite seriously. You can also walk to beach to Bucerias in about 1.5 hrs. Great for rambling, shopping or drinking Margs
on beach. Ditto Sayulita, but much the bumpin place, to use young male parlance.
In la Cruz: Sunday market @ Marina. Restaurants: Frascati, Columba, Masala.
Simply Baku doesn't take children, but if you had a variety of accommodations, you could let the school age kids loose in the town, ESP during festival time. There is no place safer than La Cruz.
