Privacy and Serenity at Ocean's Edge
Guests come to the Owings-Perdue House -- a Private Pacific on the edge of the ocean -- for peace and privacy, including an uninterrupted view of the Pacific, nature as a neighbor on both sides, waves as a lullaby. It is a perfect retreat for one couple or two, the master bedroom (next to a new state of the art hot tub) entirely separate from the guest wing. Some guests come to stay in a house designed by Charles W. Moore, a post-Modernist master architect. There are amenities, too: a complimentary bottle of wine, thousands of books to choose from, a great fireplace, CDs, silly games and jigsaw puzzles, a flat screen tv, wifi. The walk to the beach, swimming pool, sauna, and tennis courts are easy. According to guest books, whatever the reason for arriving, they leave refreshed and relaxed, and vowing to return.
The house is ideal for one or two couples, and up to four children (in the bunk bedroom), but ATTENTION PARENTS, although infants and children over six are welcome, the property is not suitable for toddlers or young children, in part because of the fragile cliffs outside.
For various reasons, no pets are allowed. Sorry, but no exceptions.

We are a couple from the San Francisco area, with varied careers and backgrounds.
We often spent long weekends to unwind at The Sea Ranch, and sometimes fantasized about owning our own house here, but nothing interested us... until we saw this property.
Without even leaving the property, you can be as removed as you wish: looking at virtually light-free nighttime skies, watching for whales, and waving to the nesting seals on the rocks off the bluff, seeing foxes, deer, wild rabbits, flocks of brown pelicans. Or you can let the house itself envelop you, reading by the fire, cooking in the well-equipped kitchen overlooking the ocean, trying all the jets in the new hot tub.
AND you can walk, hike, bike, or drive to a variety of natural phenomena, whether along the ocean or in the forest. The common Sea Ranch trail -- which is steps away from the house -- is eight flat miles of ocean view scenery, and favorite for jogging or strolling.
Also, the town of Gualala four miles away has a number of restaurants, supermarkets, and shops... but after any excursion, most visitors seem to want to return to the house as soon as they can.
