About The Owner

My husband and I have been married 30 years. We spent a lot of our free time with our two sons and their friends on the rivers in the summers (The Rock and the Mississippi):boating, camping, fishing, ice fishing - and in 1999 found a home on the river where we live today. We love it here on the river. It's the best!

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2005
Why The Owner chose Rock Island

We have rented vacation rental cabins in Minnesota, Lake Okoboji in Iowa, and in Estes Park, Co. ourselves and have realized we have the best of everything right here and would like to share this we you!

What makes this cabin unique

Here you feel as if you are in the country, but right up the street are shopping, restaurants, theaters, museums, parks, 3 miles from the Mississippi Riverfront, casino's, and lots of live entertainment. Numerous events of the Quad Cities are DAILY! = NEVER A DULL MOMENT!! but without the drive!

Very comfy place to stay

My family (husband, 3-year-old and 5-month-old) plus my brother and his wife stayed at the cabin for four nights at the end of the year. It was just as advertised and photographed. Cozy, warm, close to (within 5-minute drive) shopping. Right on the Rock River, which is really lovely (but probably even prettier when the weather is nice). We really enjoyed our time there and would definitely stay there again!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your great review! We are so glad whenever we hear that guests enjoyed their time at the cabin. We have been able to do some updates in the last month and will be putting some new pictures on the wedsite soon. We recently replaced the roof and siding to update, yet wanted to keep the theme of a cabin. Brown shingles, light green siding and brown shuttes to bring it all together. We hope you all will like it. For those who stayed a couple years ago there are some new updates on the inside too. Again, thanks everyone for most kind reviews! We will continue trying to make your stay as comfortable as we possibly can.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Cabin on the Rock. It was like being at home. Cant wait to come stay again in 2013. The house was wonderful. The area is quiet. Everything was just as they explained it to be. The owners were great. Would definately recommend it to anyone that will be visiting the area for any reason.

My husband & I stayed during peak autumn colors and perfect weather. The cabin is much larger than the photos suggest...all the comforts of home on the Rock River. This is THE only place we plan to stay in the QC on our future visits there. Many thanks to the owners!

The Cabin was very nice and reasonabally priced. The location was perfectly situated (on the Rock River) for all of the activities that the Quad Cities have to offer. Rosanne was an excellent and accomodating host.

This was our second week-long stay in the Cabin on the Rock River. We have been very pleased with both of our visits. The new Wi-Fi internet works great. Highly recommended. Thanks again.

Clean and Comfortable!

I agree with an earlier review that this maybe isn't a "cabin". In my mind, "cottage" seems more accurate. At any rate, the posted photos depict the house very well, so there were not a lot of surprises when we pulled up, which is good! There are 2 other homes located down the lane where the rental is, but they are occupied by the rental owners and their son, so no big deal. Overall, the house was very clean and comfortable. Air conditioning is provided by 3 window units, which seemed to perform adequately. The odors referred to in an earlier post were barely noticable and only occasionally. The sump pump did run sporadically as well, but was not disruptive.

A wide variety of tv channels were available as well as several movies, though mostly on vhs. The internet connection worked flawlessly as well. There was more than enough room in the house for my family of 4. The bathroom is very small though, so a group of 6 might find that challenging at times!

Just downstream from the house is a bar/restaurant of some sort that happened to have Nashville new-comer Glen Templeton performing on the second night of our stay, so we had the pleasure of sitting on the deck with a couple of drinks and listening to some live music! Once we returned inside, with the windows closed and a/c on, we couldn't hear the music. Also, considering the house really isn't that far off the main road, we heard no traffic!

Overall, this is a very nice place to spend a few days, and really worked out great for our 2 small children. The owners even brought over life vests in case the kids played near the river; very thoughtful!

Though it was a little difficult to locate (we drove past the turn a couple times before getting it right), once you know where it is at, the house is close to a lot of eating and shopping options as well as the attractions of the area including John Deere and the Niabi Zoo. When giving directions to the house, I would recommend referencing the more noticable businesses like Kmart.

Again, the photos pretty much tell you what you're getting, but as for the other amenities/necessities like dishes, towels, etc., you won't be disappointed. If you typically find it in a hotel room, you'll find it here, and then some!!

Overall, a very pleasant stay!

Sunroom is a bonus!

Submitted: April 18, 2012 Stayed: April 2012
Not quite a "cabin" -- not by Northwest standards anyway. But a very CLEAN older home on the shore of the Rock River. A little bit off the beaten path yet nestled in the midst of a more commercial zone. Spending the majority of time in the sunroom, made it seem more isolated and serene (except for an imposing, obnoxious sound of a sump pump that ran nearly all night during severe thunderstorms -- not much sleep that night). Bring your own board games and maybe your own movies (video cassettes only). As you enter the laundry room and kichen, be prepared for the noxious odor of sulfuric gas apparently from the well water. -- You do get used to it after a few hours of your stay, however (just stay in the sunroom).
I've stayed at many vacation rentals over the years. This one was pretty disappointing, but it's location for meeting up with an old friend was perfect.

Owner's Response: Yes, that was some storm we had that night! Thanks for mentioning the pump noise. We will enclose it in an acoustical manner. Done! The sulfur smell is indigenous to this area, but we will work on illuminating that also. Sorry you were disapointed, but thank you for your comments so we can improve our cabin on the river.

Wonderful Weekend

The owners are very welcoming and had the cabin warm and tidy when we arrived. The river is nice to look at, though I'm not sure I would plan on doing much swimming. We stayed in February and planned on enjoying a lot of indoor time. There's a great place to hike nearby (Blackhawk Park) and the grocery stores are nearby, as well. On our stay we found a great retro/antique shop called Fred & Ethel's. Also, if you enjoy Indian cuisine, there's an excellent place downtown (Oriental Palace, perhaps?). The sunrise on the River was beautiful each morning, and we would have spent more time outdoors if it had been above 50 during our stay. I'm sure this is a great spot for spring/summer/fall, too. We enjoyed it in the winter. We could not get the wifi to work, which was the only disappointment as I had to drive to McDonalds for internet access. There is PLENTY of space for you to spread your things out and enjoy. A great place to stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review of the cabin. We are very sorry you had the wi-fi inconvenience. We have had our internet provider fix that problem. Again, sorry!! Hope you plan to come another time soon!

Perfect for Family gatherings and games

A friend and I stayed at the cabin for three nights. The pictures and description are accurate but insufficient. It was much larger than we imagined. There is a large living room with two full size couches, a kitchen, a full sized room where the washer and dryer are, two good-sized bedrooms, a dining room with a large rectangular table, and the 3-season room facing the river, which has a round table with seating for 6. Our 1,500 jigsaw puzzles had plenty of room to spare.

The water isn't good (not Rock Island city water) but it's no problem since they supply a large water cooler (which also dispenses hot water). I would recommend making your own ice from the dispenser -- there are ice cube trays in the freezer.

Everything was very clean, even the garage.

We enjoyed the downtown Rock Island Comedy Sportz place -- comedy improv without profanity! I would also recommend Gaston's on 38th Street, and Pizza and Subs, just a block away from the cabin. Get made-to-order calzones at Pizza and Subs.

We never could get the internet connection to work, but then both of us are generally computer-challenged.

Owner's Response: Thanks ladies for your more than kind review of our cabin.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and enjoyed the space of the cabin.
