Stupendous View, and Everything Works

Two of us stayed for a week, lucked out on the winter weather. Roomier than we expected. Appreciated the generous supply of wood and basic household supplies. The location is excellent, quiet area (dead quiet in the middle of winter) but less than a block to beach access. Close enough to Newport (Google Maps says 14.6 miles and 28 minutes, about what we experienced) but Waldport has all the essentials. I particularly enjoyed walking the beach - there is almost 5 miles of it.

Owner's Response: We are always making improvements, and we have actually made it roomier by installing a flat screen TV for the first time. Making our guests feel comfortable with amenities that they don't have to pack or buy is our goal. And, of course, if you're looking for a nice long walk on the beach, then this is the place.

Sand dollar beach rental

We had a very nice stay at this location. It was very clean and comfortable. It is not for the elderly or disabled due to the stairs. I would suggest that a baby gate be installed at the top of the stairs, and a rug for the sliding glass door. This is a very awesome place to stay, and i would stay there again in the future.

Owner's Response: We agree that it is awesome for several reasons...view, location, large windows and so close to the beach. We state in our ad that it is not for the elderly. Safety is important to us, and we always suggest that parents bring their own safety gate if their child may need one. Having one available for those who don't bring one is probably a good idea. We appreciate feedback from renters to continually make improvements.

Location, location, location

If you're looking for a simple, quiet and ideal beach location, the Sand Dollar is it. We stayed here four days with my sister-in-law from the East Coast. The weather wasn't great, and she's rather picky about places, but even she loved this place. The house is a short walk (maybe 100 yards) to the beach -- and we actually preferred that location over waterfront because it meant more privacy AND a better view of the water because the house is located on a small rise above the sandy waterline. The view from the livingroom and kitchen is spectacular. Furnishings are simple (and dated) but clean and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need and is VERY clean. We spent several nights sitting around the fireplace playing board games, watching movies and putting together puzzles -- all of which were in the house, including the firewood. We took short drives to Newport and Yachats for sightseeing and dinner, and were happy to come home to a quiet neighborhood. We definiitely look forward to staying at The Sand Dollar again. This place makes for a memorable beach vacation.

Beautiful view, comfortable beds!

Because of the low rental rate we kept thinking that this rental can't be as good as it sounded - we were wrong! We were very impressed with the view of the ocean that this home offers as well as the close proximty to beach access. The home was very clean and very well stocked with spices and other non-perishable items. My husband & I appreciated the comfort of the mattress in the master bedroom. We've stayed at many homes where we've suffered from lack of sleep and aching backs due to old mattresses that need to be replaced! I've even opted to sleep on the couch at a few rentals but that was not the case here. Although the owners have no control over the weather we sure loved the sunshine, we've had such a wet time of it so far this spring! The location was great - plenty of grocery stores and restaurants within minutes and a very short drive to Newport. We especially enjoyed Seal Rock State Park when the tide was out. We would definatley reccommend this home.

We had a fairly restful stay. It was stormy and was fun to see the turbulent ocean and gales. We went into Waldport and enjoyed a delicious fish, chips and chowder dinner. We will recommend this place to friends and family. Thank you.

Owner's Response: It's true...the ocean is amazing to watch during the storms. Fortunately, the large windows and proximity to the ocean makes for some great views. Because of migration, it is prime whale watching time right now. A hot bowl of chowder is the way to go during stormy weather!

Pleasant weekend

This was our first time using HomeAway and first time using the house. Linda was wonderful to work with, paying online was convenient. The house was a great distance from the beach. We had crazy rain, sunshine AND snow. House had everything you really could need. We even used the crockpot. Remember to bring firewood if you want to have a fire. For my Dad’s 50th birthday we baked him a full cake with fondant decorations we made earlier. Drove down to the Devil's Punchbowl and drove up to Newport for salt water taffy and the Aquarium. Never made it out crabbing but had a really great trip. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Renters love being able to step out of the house & be on the beach within three to five minutes with such easy access. It is wonderful year round even during stormy weather. It is rare that we don't have firewood. The unusual spring storm slowed the wood delivery this month. The central location of the house leaves many opportunities to explore the fabulous Oregon Coast and its many attractions.

Great place to stay. Its like home away form home. Its so nice to stay at a place that has all the amenities of home. Fully stocked kitchen, some board games, and Direct TV / with Internet. Nice location just outside of Waldport and about 15min to Newport.
Owner's Response: Amenities we have! We just assume people don't want to run to the store for every little item they may need on their weekend away. We are happy you appreciated the internet which we just added to the house. It's so convenient to have WiFi at your disposal wherever you may be. The location is so central to checking out fun places north and south. Thanks for enjoying our home away from home!
