Photos and Description of the Homosassa vacation house rental
3 bedrooms, 2 baths (sleeps 8)

Experience your next vacation adventure in a realm of natural wonders far beyond the hurry and clamor of man-made attractions. This lovely Stilt Home is situated on almost 4 acres of beautiful “Old Florida” landscape just north of the “Chassahowitzka National Park” and within biking distance of “Old Homosassa” and the “Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park”.

We call the property 'The Sanctuary' - here you can meander down 'Dream Trail' to 'Eagle Point' on the property. Eagles have been spotted flying over head.

Bring your own small boat to use on Mason Creek, or to use on Petty Creek to head up to the Homosassa River. Both routes are a short very scenic ride to the Gulf of Mexico for renowned fishing and seasonal scalloping. Boat ramps are a short distance away and plenty of room to park your trailer at the house. A scenic 15 minute boat ride will take you into some of Florida's best fishing areas in the Gulf of Mexico or cruise up the Homosassa River toward Homosassa’s Wildlife Park where you can swim with manatees in crystal clear springs. It is also a 5 minute drive to the Park to see their exhibit up close.

Two bicycles are available, as well as two canoes and one kayak are provided for our guests to enjoy right off the boat dock in our cove that leads to meandering and enjoyable leisure rowing . Or use one of the many professional fishing guides to take you for a fun filled day of catching redfish, trout, snook, grouper as well as many other of the gulf coast sport fish. Fish right off the dock! Boat and Pontoon rentals are available in Old Homosassa for an exciting adventure on the River or Gulf. There are boat rentals just minutes from the house or go for a thrilling airboat ride. Our cove in cooler months is known to have several Manatee, last season we had a mom and her new born living there. The list of birds and wildlife that are seen daily is too long to mention here. The sounds of nature are incredible.

We are 65 minutes from Tampa and Busch Gardens and 1 hour and a half from Orlando, Disney World, Seaworld and Universal Studios. Clearwater and its beautiful beaches and Aquarium , home of “Winter” star of “Dolphin Tales' are an hour drive from the house. Sandy white beaches are located in Chrystal River, a 15 minute drive or 25 minutes south to Pine Island. Enjoy all the activities Florida has to offer in a short ride. This area is remote enough to take you away but close enough to major grocery chains & restaurants. At local establishments like the Riverside Crabhouse, Neon Leon's, MacRae's, the Old Mill Tavern and others, you will definitely experience true American small town friendliness teaming with local color. There are numerous quality golf courses within a short driving distance and many Florida Birding Trails.

The house is lovely, set in woodland; with many Palm, Cypress, Mimosa and Live Oak Trees, the property is very quiet and has complete seclusion and privacy. There is parking for two cars out of direct sun. The rear of the house is south facing maximizing the amount of sun during the day on the fully screened large kidney shaped heated pool (heated in the cool months for an extra charge) and the entire house is surrounded with decking and sitting areas and has a covered lanai that provides ample shade at all times. There is an outdoor shower. The sunsets are glorious. A dining area with chairs and table are poolside. The large Florida room has cable TV, a three seat sofa, a two seat love sofa and a large single armchair. The kitchen has all needed appliances, dishes and utensils. There is an adjoining breakfast area with table and chairs for 6. The utility room has a washer, dryer and a large sink. All linen and towels (including beach towels) are provided.

The master bedroom has a queen-size bed, en-suite bathroom with tub/shower and a walk-in closet. There are two other bedrooms, one Queen and one with Twin beds and ample closet space, and they share a 2nd bathroom which has a bath/overhead shower, toilet and vanity unit. An extra cot is available. French doors lead out to the pool area and a door from the Master bedroom and the Queen Guest room lead out to the pool. There is a gas barbecue provided. Holiday weeks/weekends use the High Season Rate.

This house was even better than the photos would suggest...beautifully appointed, relaxing, open and airy...still a little cold to fully enjoy the pool while we were there, but we loved every minute of our stay. Whether you're into kayaking/canoeing the river, lounging/grilling by the pool, biking or strolling the back roads to the home, hanging out in town or at the beach....this house has it all! We have already recommended the house to several friends...especially for the price, it can't be beat!

Get Away from it All

This was a perfect spot for a relaxing holiday. The house was spacious, well equipped, well maintained and very clean. It was good to find essentials like salt, pepper etc when we arrived. The owner was friendly and pleasant to deal with.
The house was private and quiet but not too far from restaurants and supermarkets. We enjoyed eating at Neon Leons in Homasassa and the Highlander Cafe in Crystal Springs was great for lunch. The Homasassa Wildlife Park was fabulous! We made a trip to St Petersburgh to visit the Salvador Dali Museum, The Chihulla Glass Collection and the Botanic Gardens and Heritage Village. That was a good day out. We also drove tothe the quaint old village of Cedar Key .
We are grandparents and were there on our own but it was obvious that this would make a good base for a family - plenty of sporty activities to keep youngsters happy with kayaks and bikes available on site and a nice swimming pool which can be heated if required.
We really enjoyed our holiday and would have no hesitation in recommending the house to our friends and family.

Owner's Response: It was our pleasure having you there, we love being able to share the beautiful Homosassa area. We need to get to the Dali Museum ourselves. Remember... we discount return vacationers.

We stayed for five nights in late January, and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The property is beautiful....serene and tranquil, with lovely marsh views. The house was clean, comfortably furnished, kitchen lacked nothing we needed, and the owner promptly responded when we had a bit of trouble with the TV/DVD instructions. The large pool area, on the second story, overlooks the marsh and we had our dinner out there often. The bikes and other recreational amenities are a bonus. The "house book" addresses any need or question you might have and the owner was a real delight to work with. I hate to "share" such a wonderful secret, but must, as it's one of the best VRBO experiences we've had. The area is Old Florida, laid back, small, friendly, with plenty to do, (manatees, fishing, boating) or just relax in the pool. Great little restaurants nearby. A most lovely getaway!

Owner's Response: Yep, much of the beauty of the place is provided by Mother Nature herself... we are so lucky to have a lovely place at the head waters of Mason Creek and boardering a National Preserve. By boat it is a peaceful, scenic ride to the Gulf of Mexico.
