A difficult call...not all we hoped for.
Agree with some of the reviews, but couldn't give five stars. Great location without a doubt and the breakfast view is fantastic. It is away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbour, but close enough to visit all of MDI. The cabin is well equipped, but standard of facilties, such as the bathroom are cramped and basic - remember it lacks facilities for washing clothes, which can be a problem if you are travelling light.
It is quite dark inside the cabin, even with the lights on and the temperature is difficult to control. There is a fan to circulate the air when it is hot and the wood burning stove and some heaters to help when it is chilly.
The photographs look good, as do ours, and there are many people who have loved staying here and return, but for us it didn't tick enough boxes.
Owner's Response: We are so sorry that our little cottage was not all this guest had hoped for, but we are happy that he confirms that it is well equipped, in a quiet location, with a fantastic view, and that the photos are accurate. We always try to describe our property accurately and honestly so that our guests are not disappointed. In this case, the guest mentions lack of laundry facilities, but we did not list a washer/dryer among our amenities. He mentions the bathroom is small and basic and that is indeed true. We advertise a 650 sq. ft. cottage and unfortunately that does not allow for a large spacious bathroom. He mentions that it is hard to control the temperature, but there is heat, a wood stove and a fan. This is a seasonal Maine cottage which we rent May to Oct. The electric baseboard heaters have a manual on/off knob with settings of Hi, Medium, and Low. They are easy to use at the discretion of the guest. But it is not central heating with wall thermostats. Likewise when it is hotter than usual on the Maine coast, the fan supplements the ocean breeze. The cottage is directly ocean front. We were there this past week, Aug. 3-10 and did not use the fan once. Indeed we seldom need the fan, but provide it just in case. Also we just had new Anderson windows (with screens) installed in the back of the cottage which are very easy to open to let the breeze flow through. As to the cottage being dark, I am not sure how to respond. The sun porch, where you dine, is so sunny on a sunny day that I wear my sunglasses. On a cloudy day or in the evening there is a 5 bulb chandelier with 60 watt bulbs, on a rheostat to create the amount of light you prefer. Each bedroom has 3 lamps, as does the living room. The kitchen has 2 spotlights on track lighting and two wall lamps and a skylight. It seems fine to us and no one has complained of the lighting before, but it is a cabin style and does not have plaster walls or ceilings that reflect the light. I am sorry that for this guest it was not bright enough. We Know that our little cottage may not suit everyone. It is a quintessential Maine coast cottage. We do not try to pretend it is otherwise. We love it the way it is and many others do too. If what you want is a fantastic view, a clean well equipped cottage, a quiet convenient oceanfront location, all of which this guest confirms, then you will not be disappointed. But if you seek additional amenities, there are other properties in different price ranges that you may prefer.
