Photos and Description of the Cruz Bay vacation cottage rental
Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Cruz Bay Cottage is one of the last of the lovely traditional West Indian cottages on St. John. It is located on a quiet little hill above Cruz Bay, within easy walking distance of the town, enjoying a birds eye view of the harbor and St. Thomas with it’s dazzling lights against the night sky. It is truly special and romantic as well as convenient and extremely affordable since it is not necessary to rent a car to have access to groceries, great restaurants and public transportation to the National Park beaches from Cruz Bay as well as the bus to Coral Bay. Even though it is close enough to town to walk it is on the quiet side and enjoys relaxing views of the night sky from the verandah in a peaceful and safe location. The owners call this property, “Grassy Hill” and own a few other private residences in the area. The manager lives near by on the property but the cottage enjoys complete privacy and is a little house all on its’ own. This property has been completely renovated with all new furnishings and wonderful artistic touches; all the amenities and creature comforts for dining, relaxing and sleeping in comfort.

There is air conditioning if desired but the cottage is airy and cool enough if you prefer not to use it. The bedroom has a brand new Queen size bed, reading lights, fresh new linens, a closet and étargère – the bathroom has been renovated with all new fixtures and tile – it has a shower, full length and magnifying mirror, shelves for your toiletries and a generous supply of new linens. The cottage has a fully stocked kitchen with stove, fridge, brand new dishware, pots and pans for fine dining inside or out on the verandah overlooking Pillsbury Sound and Cruz Bay Harbor. The living room has a comfy new sofa, chairs, table, TV and reading lamps. West Indian plantation shutters and ceiling fans keep things breezy and comfortable while adding a classic note of island charm.

The owners have lived on the island for over four decades and take great pride in the restoration and maintenance of one of the islands’ last representations of the vernacular architecture that once dotted the island of St. John and the Caribbean. These traditional cottages that once graced the landscape with their picturesque charm still symbolize the easy, environmentally sound lifestyle of a bygone era. Now fully restored and refreshed you can enjoy this romantic little cottage, formerly called Yellow Birds’ Nest.

Why Janet chose Cruz Bay

We love the proximity to town and the quiet picturesque location. The view of the harbor and the night lights on St. Thomas are a real pleasure. The cottage is a traditional West Indian cottage - there are not many remaining and we have refurbished it to perfection.

What makes this cottage unique

Location, location, location. View, view, view. Convenience. Walk to town for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you like. It is not necessary to rent a car. Walking distance to grocery stores, restaurants, shops, churches, salons, entertainment, public transportation to the beaches, to Coral Bay on the other side of the island, churches, the ferry dock, the National Park. Cruz Bay Cottage is convenient to town but quiet and peaceful in a safe little residential neighborhood.

Very Comfortable

We stayed at the cottage for 10 days and I must say it was very comfortable. The cottage was spotless, well furnished with a very good mattress and linens. The kitchen was well equipped with all the pots, pans, utensils and plates you will need. The wi-fi was wonderful! It was fast and very convenient to have when researching places on the island. The covered porch was great to sit and look out over the bay both day and night. Everything about this cottage was excellent except for the noise. If you are a city dweller it would probably not be a big deal, but we live in a quiet subdivision in the country and to us it was extremely noisy. The chickens start crowing about 6 AM, then the dogs bark and the neighbor children are up and chattering right outside the window. The location is right on Centerline Road so the trucks honk their horn as they go around the bend. As long as you enjoy getting up early these things probably would not bother you, but we sometimes like to sleep late and that was not an option. In the description it talks about being peaceful and quiet...if we had known the truth we would not have rented here even though it really is a well-kept and lovely cottage.

our nine day stay here has been marvelous! this is the third place we've stayed in St. John in our seven times here...and this is one added to our list to come back to. We've loved the view, the space, the decorations and most especially the porch. Such a delightful place to sit and read. Thanks to Janet, Andy and Sophie for being gracious hosts! Warmly,
