Ogunquit House Rental Photos and Description
6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, sleeps 12

Steps to Perkins Cove and Marginal Way! This home is the perfect place for large families to vacation. Offering 6 bedrooms, 4 baths, oversized kitchen/living area. This property has been completely renovated and is all new on the inside. Large yard on a quiet street for kids and adults to play, or relax, after a day at the beach. Ample parking and it's situated in the heart of Ogunquit just off Shore Road. Walk to downtown, Perkins Cove, restaurants. It doesn't get better than this!

This 1885 farmhouse sits on almost 1/2 acre only 400 yards from Little Beach and the Marginal Way Lighthouse. A five minute walk to downtown, Ogunquit Beach or Perkins Cove, this home is in the center of it all, yet is in a quiet and secluded area. The interior was totally renovated in late 2011-early 2012 to include a new kitchen with quartz countertops and appliances, new and reconditioned floors, and new bedrooms and bathrooms. We are now accepting reservations for spring and summer season 2013.

We loved Ogunquit since we first traveled to the beach in the 1980s with our three daughters.

Carolyn Weller purchased this house in 2011

When our daughters were young we rented the home across the street for family vacations. The quiet street, the nearby park, the closeness to the beach, Marginal Way, Perkins Cove, and downtown Ogunquit make for a perfect location.

Each time we visited Ogunquit, I would pick up the real estate flyers and read through them on the beach and dream about owning a home here. Diane and I would make it a point to walk through the neighborhood and then, in August 2011, there it was, a for sale sign in front of the old farm house across the street from where we had spent so many great family vacations.

It was a beautiful old house, but it had been neglected over the years. We knew it would be a big project, but we also knew it might be our best chance to have a vacation home in a place we loved. Ultimately, we decided to climb on the roller-coaster and go for a ride.

There have been some exciting highs and scary lows. We ended up gutting the entire second floor (not in the original budget) and there were a few structural surprises that cost more than we had planned, but I think along the way we made the decisions that made the home even better -- all new wiring, ripped out the old oil heat system and installed central heat and air conditioning, moved walls for an open kitchen-living-dining concept, replaced virtually every slat-and-plaster wall with new and better drywall, all new kitchen and three all-new baths, and repainted the entire interior and exterior. Our builder started in December and finished it all by mid-June. Jerry DeHart and Coastal Construction did an awesome job.

The gut rehab of this 1885 farm house means we were able to create a master bedroom with walk-in closet and ensuite bath. The new floor in the kitchen-dining-living area is 10' pine with exposed antique nailing -- it looks as old as the original floors in the rest of the house, which have been sanded and brought back to their original glory.

Unlike many of the neighboring properties, which over the years were carved up into small lots for small houses, ours sits on almost a half-acre. The back and side yards are extremely private. Because the homes across the street have their back yards facing our home, even the front yard is private.

We have been coming to Maine in October for over 30 years. Have always stayed at the Norseman because, well......if you go to Maine you MUST be on the ocean. With our family growing because of marriages and the addition of 4 grandchildren we were looking for a house where we could enjoy each others company and not have to schlep off alone to our motel rooms at night. This was the PERFECT place. Large enough to spread out yet a great open floor plan on the first floor so we could enjoy laughs and talks. Enough space for 8 adults and 4 children. Plenty of bathrooms for everyone. It is true to the pictures. Very clean and neat and well stocked with basic essentials for cooking. Plenty of games for the kids. They thought it was the BEST house for hide and seek. So much for them to do that the tv or dvd were never turned on. They had a great time outside in the yard and I imagine in the summer the porches and yard would be a paradise. Within quick walking distance of Perkins Cove and the Marginal Way. It is an old house so floors are a bit creaky so if you are sleeping on the second floor you may be disturbed by the creaks of the floorboards on the 3rd floor as people patter back and forth to the bath room at night. You might want to put those who tend not to frequent the bathroom at night on the 3rd floor. No bedside lamps on 3rd floor (just an overhead light) so bring your book light or nook if you don't want to disturb your partner. One warning, do NOT use foil to line oven. It is a newer oven with the electric coils built into the oven floor. If you put foil on the oven floor it heats the foil to the point where it can imbed itself into the oven floor. It is a relatively inexpensive and quick fix but you don't want to have to use up your deposit money that way! Owner has done a great job remodeling to make this a very comfortable and pleasant home. The only problem we have had is the return of our deposit. Should have been sent by Nov. 13. It is now Nov 29 and after two phone calls and promises that it is in the mail we still have yet to see it. To be fair, I think this is a problem with the agent and not the owner. It is a great place to stay. The most often phrase heard during the weekend was "I love this house". If felt like home. Would definitely stay there again.......if we get our deposit back!!!
Owner's Response: Thank you, Midge, for the great review. We're so glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. The original farm house was built in 1885, so it does creak a bit. I'll definitely put side table lamps next to the beds on the third floor. Thanks for the suggestion.

You were kind and conscientious to report the inadvertent damage to the oven. The damage was minor and no cause for withholding or delaying the return of your deposit, for which I apologize. Our rental manager thought I was copied on one of the emails and was awaiting a response from me. Meanwhile, I assumed she had returned your deposit. We've straightened this out and your deposit has been returned, as it should have been two weeks earlier. Again, my apologies.
