Best Stay Yet in NOLA

We have never rented a home in NOLA before, and now we think it is the only way to go. We enjoyed the city so much more being in a beautiful neighborhood where we could enjoy walking past charming homes to great boutiques and restaurants. The house was just as pictured, and the high ceilings, pickled wood floors, big windows and attractive furnishings made it such a unique and lovely property. It was also very quiet, and our children loved going across the street to Lauenstein's for snacks and treats. Loved La Petite Grocery for lunch.

Great Family Home Close to All Uptown has to offer

We booked this home for our family spring break trip and could not have been more pleased. I attended Tulane and feel as if I know a thing or two about the real NOLA and this house is close to all the REAL uptown attractions.
First off, the house: The property was clean, light and airy as the photos indicate. We have young children - 8, 6, and 2.5 - and there was nothing I had to stowe away or be afraid that would be damaged by curious hands. The CD collection was a hit with us 40 something parents. We stayed out of the backyard b/c my daughters said they had seen a wasp nest, but it was never confirmed. Didn't matter anyway, we spent so much time exploring uptown. By day 3 we had a few roach (we called them WaterBugs when I was in college in NOLA) visitors but I suspect that was more due to a combo of us leaving the screen doors open one morning for fresh air and the occasional errant crumb from our kids.

The location: SAFE! SAFE! SAFE! Arabella street is truly one of the best in uptown - residential, not over run with college kids or postKatrina hipsters. You are honestly 5 minutes to the greatest stretch of Magazine - kitschy coffee shops, great FAMILY restaurants, the spectacular Arabella Station Whole Foods, boutique shopping, etc. Being across the street from Langensteins is a dream - it's a local's grocer and incredibly convenient. You are also just 1 block from a local liquor store, which was great for wine and scotch shopping for after hours sips. With a 2-year-old in tow we were able to easily walk to the streetcar on St. Charles Ave, the Daneel Playground, Tulane and of course, the Audubon Zoo. Date dinner while the Nanny watched the kids was at one of my favorite restaurants ever, The Upperline, which we also walked to. Point is, park your car on the offstreet parking and let it be the entire trip. No need to drive at all.

Bottomline, we WILL stay here again if Steve will have us. One of our young family's top trips ever!
Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind words ! I'm so happy you guys enjoyed your stay and of course,
we would love to have you come again anytime !!

Classic New Orleans uptown 2 bedroom 2 bath first floor house with 11 foot ceilings, french doors, and all conveniences, including Wi-Fi. Off street parking, lovely front porch, walking distance to Audubon Park & near-by grocery, are all good benefits. Would definitely recommend this house & intend to stay again
Owner's Response: Thanks Lou !

This is a sweet little place in a really nice part of New Orleans. If you're coming to see more than the French Quarter, this is a great home base. It's right off St. Charles Ave - one of the most beautiful streets in America - and will let you feel like you're really in the city, instead of being in "tourist central".

Now I realize that some percentage of New Orleans travelers are planning to dedicate their entire visit to exploring every nook and cranny of the French Quarter, or just stumbling on and off of Bourbon St. If that's you, then this isn't what you're looking for.

But if you want to see where people live (albeit the better-off people!) and enjoy the city's day-to-day culture - Tulane and Loyola Universities, Audubon Park/Zoo, restaurants, bookstores, etc - then this is a way better perspective.

And the Quarter is a short cab ride away (or take the St. Charles streetcar!).

Awesome House!

My Husband and I rented this beautiful home for the week leading up and weekend of our wedding! it was a perfect amount of space and in a wonderful neighborhood. The backyard is killer. It was awesome to have a house and the extra space to welcome our family and friends as they arrived in New Orleans. There's a great market right across the street and a HUGE whole foods just a short walk away. The owner is great as well! He personally stopped by on the first day to make sure we had everything we needed.

One thing to note is this neighborhood is a little hard to catch cabs but the trolley is a short walk away. Use that to get downtown and you'll have no trouble cabbing back.

We would definitely recommend staying here and hope to be back in the near future.

Wonderful Uptown House

We had an adventurous week in New Orleans, traveling down to drop our eldest at Tulane and ending up riding out Hurricane Isaac! Steve was a gracious host, allowing us to extend our stay at his beautiful home when we couldn't get out as planned. The house is lovely, the outdoor seating area a perfect place to kick back and the location could not be better for access to shopping, the streetcar, Audubon Park, Tulane and Loyola and Magazine Street. We hope to make this our New Orleans home for all future trips! :)
Owner's Response: Thanks Sarah,
You guys were troopers to stay here during the storm. I was fortunate to have Mark help me "batten down the hatches" prior to Isaac's unwanted arrival !!
You guys are welcome back anytime. Hopefully the second bath will be finished by the time you return.
Thanks again,
Steve

New Orleans stay

We had to come to New Orleans on short notice due to a funeral. The owner was more than willing to work with us and got us set up within 24 hours. It is a lovely New Orleans home with beautiful wood floors and alot of charm. The furniture was lovely and the beds were comfortable. Just know that there is only one bathroom (no problems for us). The only complaint about the home itself is that I couldn't figure out how to access many of the TV channels; maybe it was just me, but I could only rotate between the local networks. The location of the home is nice. While there are not many restaurants/bars within walking distance, a quick cab ride can get you to the Tulane area, Magazine St. and further towards the GD/FQ/CBD on St. Charles. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

This is such a charming home in a lovely neighborhood! Steve was a wonderful host and everything was perfect when we arrived. The beds are extremely comfortable and kitchen was very well equipped. Great little grocery store across the street---Whole Foods and restaurants just a few blocks away. The location can't be beat--you can get to the French Quarter or the Zoo in minutes. And just staying in this home built in 1904, you feel like you are staying in a part of New Orleans history. Loved those rocking chairs on the porch!

Spent a fantastic girls' weekend during Jazz Fest. Perfect location - gorgeous, serene neighborhood with wonderful restaurants and shopping. The house is lovely, clean and well cared for and had everything we could have possibly needed. Trolley is right around the corner and taxis were easy to arrange. A true New Orleans experience without the chaos of staying in the Quarter.

My family and I stayed at this Uptown 2 bedroom this past week and had a wonderful experience. The house has quite a bit of room, is in a safe and convenient location, and a really nice yard with outdoor kitchen area. Down the block was Whole Foods and a number of shops. We were within walking distance of several nice playgrounds, the zoo and the library, and the ST Charles Streetcar. The property owner leaves some great recommendations and the collection of CDs is a very nice touch.
