Rarely rented, historically significant house built in 1682, making it the verifiably oldest house on Island. It's 331 years old, 137 years older than the United States. I'm a 59 year old father of 16 year old twin boys who love the island as much as I do. My wife always wanted a sprawling beachfront house with wicker furniture, but I finally convinced her those were a dime a dozen and this house re-defined the word unique. It took her about 30 seconds in the house to understand, and we've been proud parents of both the boys and the house ever since.
It exudes history and charm. On an island that revers history above all else, only one house can lay claim to the title oldest house. We're it, a fact that a commissioned study conducted 15 years ago by the island's preeminent historian, proved once and for all. It's history is rich and storied, and in it's day this house has been a General Store, a brothel, a Post Office, a Boarding House and a private residence. If you are lucky, you might get one chance in a lifetime to buy a house like this, and we weren't about to let it pass. After all, how many times can you say you've just slept in a house on American soil that is 137 years older than the United States of America itself?
It's comfortable, has all the modern conveniences except for central and A/C including internet, cable, DVD and WiFi. If you want to stay connected to the office, you can be, it's your choice. Also has, for Sconset, a generous lawn for entertaining and evening cocktails, and a hedge around the entire property, which give it a privacy rare in Sconset. Walk to beach, General Store, Post Office and restaurant. Shuttle service to anywhere on the island has drop off 50 yards from house.
