This charming bayfront cottage, in the quaint village of Claiborne, is the perfect blend of the past and the present. Over the years, before the Bay Bridge was built, part of this house was used as the 'waiting room' for the ferries between Annapolis and Claiborne. Arriving visitors could either take a train from the station right there at the dock to points further east or be met by auto and driven (over oyster shell roads) to one of the many boarding houses along the shore. Families would spend the summer, with fathers and husbands joining them on the weekends for days of good meals, swimming in the Bay, and just plain relaxing. Though the ferries have long since disappeared, the wonderful food, abundant activities and relaxation are still to be found.
In addition, in the living room to the left of the fireplace is the original ' ticket window ' remaining from the ferry station. A beautiful built-in china closet with antique panes of glass gives the dining area a touch of elegance.
Upstairs there are two large bedrooms with Bay views, a quiet sitting area and a powder room. The first floor consists of the master ensuite bedroom, open living and dining area, fully equipped kitchen with stainless appliances, quartz counters and separate laundry room. The lovely bayfront sunporch affords wonderful views of the water, boating activity, wildlife and amazing evening sunsets!
Outside, one will find a spacious yard, many Spring flowers, mature willow oaks and a brick and stone patio overlooking the Bay and landing. Desirable Adirondack chairs for viewing the sunsets, wrought iron set for alfresco dining and a private dock for kayaks, kites, fishing or docking your boat with the sandy beach only steps away! Very peaceful and quiet.. perfect for one or two couples or small family getaway. So convenient too...a 5 minute drive to town and everything St. Michaels has to offer.
We discovered Claiborne and this absolutely charming, historic waterfront cottage after looking at many properties for several years. Part of the 'Hamptons of the Chesapeake,' it has been described as one of THE places to be at any time of the year. St. Michaels and this surrounding area has been featured in Coastal Living, What's Up Eastern Shore and recently, Victoria magazines.
This unique cape home which was totally renovated in 2012, features endless and dramatic sunset views, and is truly one of the coziest cottages in the area. High ceilings, muted colors, open floorplan ...historic feeling at its best. Brand new gourmet kitchen, stylish interior with coastal cottage flair, new bathroom fixtures, hardwood floors, heat and air to be controlled separately in each room. Wonderful sunroom and magical outdoor spaces. Great views of the Eastern Bay, Kent Island and the distant Bay Bridge...watch for cruise ships, cargo vessels and other craft passing by. Fabulous area to walk, bike, or stroll to Claiborne beach to search for sea glass and other treasures!
