Circa 1906 one-bedroom cottage was once part of the Briones Mexican Land Grant. The Briones' married into the Lauff Family and this was the home of Jack Lauff. The Cottage was a caretaker cottage. Tucked in an orchard garden., it features a sun porch, separate office/studio; sunny, peaceful, & private location. Or you may be inspired y to bake your favorite cookies and pies. The house just has that feeling. Wildlife abounds...quail, blue herons, deer, blue birds, soaring hawks, and hummingbirds as you bathe in the outdoor tub surrounded by honeysuckle, jasmine and roses.
When I moved to West Marin from Chicago I knew that I had landed someplace so special. This is paradise! But when I drove down Horseshoe Hill Road and saw this little red farmhouse, I stopped the car. It looked a bit like a Little House on the Prairie as it was set back in a pasture. The cottage was built in 1906 and was part of the Lauff Ranch. I live in the Barn that is also on the property. Flowers and fruit trees and beauty all around. Horseshoe Hill is protected, thus making it warmer than the rest of Bolinas. Most of the surrounding properties have multiple acres so there is privacy. It is about a mile away from downtown and the beach, yet the surf can be heard in the distance as the ocean is just to the west over the ridge. I can't imagine living anywhere else. I have seen coyotes and bobcats, blue herons and snowy egrets, the hummingbirds, honeybees, woodpeckers, several kinds of owls, and other night creatures call in the night. If there is a full moon and weather is clear, there is no need for flashlights to light your way.
Perfect for family retreat or a romantic getaway.
