It is a dramatic expression of openness to the surrounding natural setting and its spaciousness offers you luxurious accommodation in its three bedrooms. This exclusive property is surrounded by landscaped gardens which fit naturally into the slopes of a river valley gorge. After a breathtaking passage through arched majestic bamboo, you approach the villa on a raised wooden walkway through undisturbed rice fields, giving no clue to the remarkable design of the villa ahead and its electrifying views.

To preserve the integrity of this magnificent island Vajra Villas makes every effort to help our environment, from an organic waste water garden to the use of organic natural foods whenever possible. Energy saving policies will be discussed with the guests on arrival. And to celebrate Ubud’s central place in Balinese culture and the arts, Vajra Villas features a growing, collection of work by local artists.

All bedrooms feature individually controlled air-conditioning units as well as ceiling fans to keep the rooms pleasantly cool. There are telephone lines for IDD and in-house calls in each room, as well as individual safety deposit boxes.

MASTER BEDROOM

The floor of the elegantly furnished master bedroom is made of polished local merbau wood. On three sides are expansive glass sliding doors offering awesome views of the jungle, river valley and swimming pool with its statue-niched water wall. One door opens to the timbered balcony with its built-in padded bench seat providing both a viewing spot and listening post for the adjacent waterfall or distant Wos River which coils its way through the deep gorge below.

The en-suite garden bathroom features a large black terrazzo Jacuzzi bathtub which stands in strong contrast to the white Palimanan stone floor. A black terrazzo washstand supports a stylish steel washbowl, and the shower which opens directly to the garden is flanked by shelves and cabinets.

GUEST BEDROOM

Valley Bedroom

The Valley Room is situated at pool level. It is furnished with a dreamy four-poster bed complemented by striking artwork. Sliding glass doors face the valley. The suite has its own dressing room and a garden bathroom constructed of black terrazzo.

Sawah Room

Situated on the western side of the villa, this room boasts a three sided panoramic view of the rice fields. It also has an en-suite toilet and shower room with marble floor.

Across the lotus pond stands the Study. It serves both as a media room with TV, DVD player and film library and quality sound system which has speakers throughout the villa and gardens. This room also doubles as an additional bedroom with an en-suite shower/bathroom on its private viewing terrace. An expansive cathedral window in front of the built-in desk offers a surprisingly dramatic view of the living and dining areas below.

Living and Dining Pavilion

Accessed by an external cantilevered staircase from the pond level is the gargantuan Living-Dining pavilion. It is only on reaching this lower level that the unique architectural design of the villa can be appreciated. It stands three stories high beneath a vaulted, intricately designed thatched roof supported by coconut wood pillars on stone plinths.

Furnished with comfortable teak chairs and sofas, pendulous lanterns illuminate a large mahogany dining table. It is also a fantastic venue for parties, receptions and functions as well as quiet, peaceful living. The adjoining semi-circular timber deck overhangs the lush river valley; living jackfruit trees grow through holes cut in the deck floor, a stylish sensitive way to preserve the original forest plantings, an architectural tour de force blending style with nature.

Villa Vajra was the most perfect vacation home.
The setting is breathtaking and the staff exceptional from the moment we arrived until we departed 5 days later.
We felt like we had become part of the family.
The villa has beautiful amenities and it is better than the pictures on the website.
The furnishings are lovely and the food terrific.
I would give it a 10+++

PROFOUNDLY SERENIC

As a family of 6, with 3 generations from Mexico & UK, we stayed in Varja for 3 days from the 4th-7th February 2014.
Having seen photos on the internet we knew we had chosen an extremely beautiful place, however on arrival we were simply spellbound by everything, and were continually amazed with the everything Varja contained: The actual home & amenities, all the staff (such professional, helpful, angels who were never intrusive and always available to provide for us); the impecably clean rooms; a resourceful study, with a magical view of the gardens from the desk (should we have chosen to work or use it to its potential); the outdoor bathrooms a real, fresh taste of the Tropics; the gardens so inviting and so lush, with fantastic walks easily followed by all ages and interests; the meditation patio simply perfect (all of us - from the 60+ to the 6 year old all were inspired to meditate)!
The food was 5 star standard with generous portions and extremely fair prices. We chose to eat moreso at the house for we were so impressed with the range of menu, the magical settings of the tables (the napkins being origamied into different shapes each meal were such a lovely touch, which the children were very impressed with)!
The pool and jacuzzis (one in the master bedroom) were fabulous - the onlooking Buddahs around the living area were a classy, spritual touch. Transport was readily avaiable and activities in Ubud were well advised; communication bewteen us, staff & businesses was perfect, all requests (including dietry requests) were met.
It was ideal to be away from the hubbub of Ubud - minutes away yet tucked superbly away from any noise. Coming home after a busy day out was heaven- melting into paradise each moment at the house.
There is no "best" or "worst", as our whole experience was simply magical - thankyou to all who made our stay one of the most memorable and serene holiday we have ever experienced!

There are myriad factors that contribute to making a wonderful holiday experience: great location, good amenities, delicious food and attentive service. The very best spots combine all those things and then deliver extra. And that’s exactly what Villa Vajra does.

It starts the moment you arrive with the short walk to the villa through verdant rice stalks with a beautiful village temple on the edge of the field. It's an extraordinarily peaceful and picturesque start.

The villa itself is spacious and relaxed, the pool is fabulous and the main outdoor living space is incredible with its soaring, traditionally-thatched roof. However, it's the surrounding natural environment that makes this place so special.

The tropical garden that surrounds the villa is indescribably beautiful. Full of hidden corners and the sound of the rushing river below as you descend on stone steps. The wooden meditation bale, perched just below the main deck and overlooking the garden and the opposite ridge is, without doubt, the most perfect place I have ever watched the sun rise. The whole place is arrestingly beautiful.

Our party of 6 (4 adults, 2 kids) were looked after so very well. The staff at Villa Vajra are an absolute delight. Attentive, ever-present when needed and warm but never obtrusive - a very fine line to walk and they do it exceptionally well.

Gusti, the manager, is a gem. He arranged everything for us from trips to Ubud for browsing shops to a crack-of-dawn visit to the locals' food market, an in-house gamelan performance one night and Balinese dancers the next. When credit cards were lost or kids got sick, he handled it all with care and grace.

In an added bonus, Gusti's wife, Narie, is the best babysitter and just a gorgeous person. Our kids adored her - even our normally reticent and shy 4-year-old was besotted with her from the very beginning. She took the kids on adventures through the garden, did crafts using beautiful flowers they collected and produced an endless stream of activities for them.

Ketut and Made, the chefs, cook the best food in the Ubud area. Full stop. If you're a foodie, I highly recommend leaving the menu completely in their hands. We did that after our first few nights and we had the most wonderful feasts of local specialities - truly some of the best food I've had in 20 years of travelling (and occasionally working) in Indonesia.

Widi and the other staff around the villa make every day a pleasure with their friendly presence.

The service received went beyond all expectations - thank you so much to Gusti and Saba, for whom nothing was too much trouble and always received with genuine smiles ...friends rather than staff. The villa is breathtaking. Rice fields to the front, jungle to the rear separated by beautiful luxury accommodation and grounds. The villa is breathtaking...each bedroom feels different and the open air living room is so relaxing...yet strangely intimate too. Located some way from town meant peace and quiet, travel in and out of town easily organised by Gusti. I loved my stay there...my only regret is that i couldn't stay longer!

We have rented villas and stayed in many of the best resorts in Bali and throughout SE asia on many occasions over the past 15 years. Villa Vajra is one of the very best. It ought to be included in the Luxe Guide to Bali if it isn't in the current edition. The location, quality of the villa its surrounds, the food and especially the attentiveness of the staff are simply top notch. We are already recommending to our friends that they try to arrange to spend some time at Villa Vajra and we will definitely be back.

From the moment we were picked up at the airport by the Villa Vajra staff till we left, we were treated like royalty. This villa is outstanding, perfect for experiencing the essence of Bali. We didn't want to leave!

Villa Vajra is a marvelous picture out of "Architectural Digest". You're not in some cookie cutter hotel. Situated in the middle of a rice paddy, we knew we were somewhere special from the moment we walked through the arched plant clad bamboo gate into this creatively built Balinese villa.. There are fabulous areas to relax in. We sampled alfresco dining at its best, served by two fabulous in-house chefs (no need to eat out when we could sample excellent Indonesian food or select from a menu food of our choice). There is a beautiful picturesque pool with cascading falls to relax by or swim in, magnificent landscaped gardens, a tranquil meditation area and the air conditioned bedrooms are nicely appointed with local art and fresh flowers. There's even an outdoor shower! We experienced what it's like to live in a Bali village area and yet we were only a ten minute drive to Ubud. Joel, the owner, even pointed out a trail where we could walk to town. We didn't rent a car as the villa provided a ride into nearby Ubud where we could experience ancient temples, gamelan dancing and shopping for handicrafts and batiks. We liked that free Wi-Fi and internet was provided. Guisti and his staff were just wonderful attending to our needs. Per our request, they arranged massages for our party of five for when we arrived after a 28 hr. plane trip and also booked a great bicycle trip and rafting expedition for us for which we were picked up directly at Villa Vajra...Unbelievable service!!!
This is definitely a 5 Star Villa for those who want luxury, serenity, culture and comforts at an affordable price.

Paradise on Earth

"Villa Vajra is truly a little bit of paradise here on Earth. Set in the middle of stunningly green rice paddies, it includes 3 buildings. There is a very large guest house that includes the kitchen and gorgeous quarters that go down step by step to an outdoor eating area and a wonderful blue tiled swimming pool. There is also a magnificent 40 foot high thatched roof structure that serves as another guest house, a dining room and a media room. Finally, there is the home of the owners. The large staff is extremely helpful without being in any way obtrusive. The food that the 2 cooks prepare is superb and ranges from delicious Indonesian specialties to pasta to sushi to Mediterranean fare. In sum, I can't think of a more beautiful, relaxing and sumptuous place for vacationing."

We stayed at Villa Vajra for only 5 days with friends and family and then moved to another property close to the beach following the desires of the younger crowd. I should say that we should have stayed there for the rest of our vacation or, perhaps, the rest of our lives.
The location could not be better. Sebali is a tranquil village some 15 min away by car from Ubud. Joel indicated a shortcut path that we could use to walk back and forth to Ubud, beautiful and quiet, which we took several times. Just walking and seeing people working in their rice paddies was relaxing and spiritually invigorating.
The architecture of the house is fabulous. A mixture of Balinese and modern with all the modern conveniences. The open plan of the living and dining room let nature, with its fragance, sounds and greenery, complemented by the pool waterfall, penetrate and wrap you. A massage in the meditation bale everyday made a perfect addition to our therapy of body and soul. The house is tucked on the rim of the valley, separating the rice paddies from the perfectly designed gardens which merged imperceptibly with the natural vegetation going down into the ravine.
But this paradise would not be human without the staff and owners of matching excellence. Everything you can think of is already solved. From where to go, to what to eat or drink. I have no words to describe this standard of service, all of this coordinated by the villa manager Gusti. We opted for having dinner at the villa every night. Ketut and Madi, the cooks, prepared wonderful Balinese fare better than anything you can find in Ubud, with an unbeatable setting. The villa attendants Saba and Gwayan (?) did a wonderful job in maintaining us always pampered.
In summary, it is the best vacation house I have ever been. I am already planning my next asian journey and two weeks at Villa Vajra is on schedule. I will look no further.

We stayed here for a week in august, 2013 with a group of seven adults. We had a marvelous time. The setting is serene, quiet yet accessible. Joel and Nigrantha are gracious hosts, generous and communicative with their expertise of the area. We are so grateful for the opportunity to have experienced a slice of their nirvana. One of the best bits of our stay was our interaction with the incredible staff of the villa, starting with Gusti, the villa manager, and extending to all the cooking staff, especially Ketut. We recommend staying here, and if you do, do choose to dine in. The food is incredible, affordable and healthy. Perhaps the truest comment we can offer is this: we will be back.

Where do I start about Villa Vajra - it would have to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in. The setting is nothing short of spectacular. You almost feel like you are in a large tree house in the open plan living area, the lush green gardens/forest is simply breathtaking. Whilst luxurious it is also extremely homely - a hard combination to capture, but Vajra have succeeded
From the very sweet owner Joel who swung by to say Hello and welcomed us and also popped in to say Goodbye, to the staff-who were such gorgeous, calm, kind and hospitable people. The food was particularly yummy in fact everything was just divine and we were very sad to leave. If ever I am in Ubud again, I will definitely stay at Villa Vajra and will be recommending to my family and friends.
