Excellent Location, Great for small kids

Rick did an excellent job communicating and keeping us informed.
Their house is nice - clearly a rental, but don't let that put you off - it is meant in a good way: clear directions on how to use the pools and tennis courts, lots of towels for example, but furnishing were average.
The good: excellent location, lots of good stores nearby for most anything you could need or want when on vacation, good restaurants nearby, excellent freeway access, very nice pools (one "lap" pool, one kiddy pool (very nice!) and a hot tub, nice gym facilities, and very nice pool deck. Also, a nice playground for small kids. (We were there with our two boys 4, and 5 years old). There were tennis courts and BBQs, but we didn't use them. The kitchen was stocked with an average amount of stuff (we always found what we needed to do simple cooking), and there were lots of plates and cups. The dishwasher and clothes washers worked just fine. The dining room table was big and there was really good lighting everywhere.
Wifi worked great once I rebooted it.
The first evening we were there, there was a little dog that was barking like crazy across the driveway which didn't bode well, but for whatever reason, he settled down and was quite the rest of our stay. Along that line, there are a ton of dogs in the complex and a nice dog park (wish we brought our dog!).
The complex was very uncrowded (late March) and those that were there were very friendly. Pool deck always had tons of room to hang out, and the pools themselves were never crowded - usually we had them to ourselves, and the gym was never full.
The "room for improvement": bed in middle bedroom is a bit hard, the pillows were very soft (but there were tons of them, so just stack them up), and the fitted sheets were stretched out and always coming off the middle bedroom and bunkbeds. (In all fairness, there were new sheets in the middle bedroom closet, but we didn't see them till the last day - our loss.) The living room couches were not a place you would want to hang out on (not super comfy), but were fine for a place to sit. I'd put another comforter in the closet - there was an extra one, but it was pretty light too (I guess it is San Diego after all though).
We didn't use the TV's or DVD's (there were some DVD's to watch that looked good).
The bottom line: Would we go back and use it again? - you bet - there were no negatives, it just didn't blow us away.
