Enjoy the breathtaking views on all sides of our beach house! Relax in the second floor balcony hot-tub as you gaze out across Mobjack Bay to the Chesapeake. Sandbars shelter the private sandy beach and the gentle lapping waves are ideal for family fun, as are horseshoes in the yard and gas grilling on the deck overlooking the beach. All upscale fittings with fully equipped kitchen and dining room, surround sound entertainment systems and gas fireplaces on both the first and second floors.
Surrounded by glorious nature as private forested estates line the drive up to the beach house – perfect for peaceful walks, jogging or bike rides. Animal watchers can observe the local wildlife paradise that includes ospreys, snowy egrets, blue herons, bald eagles, great horned owls, wild turkeys, white-tailed deer and more. Kayak or jet-ski from the beach to explore the shoreline. Plenty of room to park your boat with public launches at Gloucester Point Beach Park and Ware House Landing to head out onto the waters for great sailing, crabbing and fishing.
Pick up some locally caught crabs, fresh smoked ham or homemade jam at the historic Nuttal’s Country store 5 minutes up the road- serving the area since 1875 and so cozy you wont want to leave! 10 minutes away is the quaint town of Historic Gloucester with a Courthouse dating back to 1766, wide variety of restaurants, concerts on the green, Spring and Fall jazz festivals “Main Street Blues and Brews”, a museum and galleries displaying the works of local artisans.
Only 25-30 minutes away are the Colonial National Historic Parks of Williamsburg and Yorktown.
The local area offers many activities including horse-riding, kayaking, mountain-biking, golf and even an aquarium at the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences (we can provide links and directions to all!). Just 5 minutes from the house, the Ware River Yacht Club offers tennis, kayaking and sailing camps for kids and holds an annual regatta. Water Country water park is only 30 minutes from the house and Busch Gardens theme park 40 minutes away.
Dine on the waterfront at the fantastic River’s Inn Restaurant and Crab Deck or sample some Virginia wines at local vineyards: Williamsburg Vineyard (25mins), New Kent Winery in New Kent, Va (1hr) and White Fences Vineyard and Winery in Irvington, VA (1hr).
Bring your clubs for a game of golf at the Gloucester Country Club (10mins), Pines Golf Club or the Newport News Golf Club at Deer Run (25 minutes), one of the best public golf courses in the country.
Also within 1 hr drive: Virginia Air & Space Centre in Hampton, VA, Norfolk zoo, Norfolk Botanical Gardens.
Great escape from the city as our beach house is just a short drive from Norfolk and Richmond (1 ¼ hrs), Washington D.C and Northern Virginia (2 ½ hours). We bought the property as a second/ weekend home for a peaceful retreat to de-stress from our busy commuter lives in Washington DC.
