A 53 foot world class cruising sailing yacht, Bel Ami is the ultimate in comfort and safety, meeting all USCG safety standards. Spacious interiors, air-conditioned, all the convenience of home, includes a home theater with 53 by 37 inch screen and a great movie selection! The private master guest cabin is complete with ensuite bathroom with electroflush toilet and shower. 10 inch memory foam queen size mattress with cushioned surround! The forward guest cabin can accommadate another couple. There are two more single berths amid ship for a total of 6 berths. On deck you will find wide open spaces for sunbathing, rainbow watching, dancing or contemplating the stars.

Captain Dave Goodman fell in love with the Virgin Islands in 1977 and has been sailing here since. He has a USCG 100 ton Master’s Captain’s License. Born in Brooklyn, NY. Dave began sailing on Long Island Sound as a teenager. He went to the University of Wisconsin Madison for his undergraduate studies (B.A. Philosophy) and sailed extensively with the U.W. Hoofers. He graduated at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1977 and did his first bareboat charter in the Virgin Islands for his graduation gift. What a gift it was! He was hooked! He married, had 3 children, moved back to Wisconsin, began racing Hobie Cats and sailing on the Great Lakes. He also has sailed in the Pacific Northwest(Seattle, Puget Sounds, San Juan Islands) The Med(French and Italian Riviera).

Captain Dave purchased Bel Ami in May of 2007, after semi-retiring from his busy Occupational Medicine consulting practice in Wisconsin. Bel Ami’s first home was St. Thomas, and for Captain Dave this was like going back to 1977 and falling in love with the islands all over again. He moved aboard, obtained his license from the U.S.V.I., and began consulting in the Virgin Islands. Since that time he has sailed Bel Ami extensively throughout the Spanish, American and British Virgin Islands, as well as the Bahamas in 2009-2010. For the summer of 2010, Captain Dave decided to take Bel Ami to explore the Caribbean Islands of the Lesser Antilles, including such places as St. Martin, Montserrat, Nevis, Dominica, Guadelupe, Martinique, Les Saintes, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada.

Many of these voyages have been solo as Bel Ami is designed with electronic controls for the sails, anchoring and so forth that permit safe and effective single-handed operation. Captain Dave loves to introduce people to his world of sailing and cruising the islands. If you are a sailor looking for your first bareboat experience, but would like to get a little more “Big Boat” experience under your belt, sailing the Bel Ami under Captain Dave’s guidance is just the ticket. Captain Dave loves to cook! He is also a PADI certified Advanced and Rescue scuba diver, enjoys snorkeling and swimming, fishing, and loves feeling the breeze in his face as Bel Ami catches the wind.
