Spectacular Ottawa Getaway!

My husband and I visited Heather & Mark's gorgeous estate over Xmas 2012 to house hunt for our move to the area. We picked the place because it looked lovely over the Internet, Heather was quick to reply to out inquiry and questions, and because it was pet-friendly as we were traveling with our two large dogs.
The property, owners, & overall experience exceeded our expectations!
Property: The condo is the bottom floor of Heather's custom built home. There's a private entrance with an enormous mud room (which was needed as we got 3-feet of snow) and full-size W/D. The 3-bedoom, 2-bath condo has heated floors throughout, a walk-in closet in master's bedroom, a gas fireplace (which is all the heat you'll need), a sauna, a huge walk in shower, double sinks in both baths, a full kitchen with high-end appliances, access to the private & fenced yard, and spectacular views of the river from every room!
Owners: Months before we even arrived, Heather was kind enough to help us pinpoint areas of interest to look for houses. She also recommended real estate agencies and provided contacts related to my career. Upon arrival, Heather showed all us around her lovely estate and gave us information where we could snow-shoe, mountain bike & runs the dogs. She and Mark even had us over for Christmas dinner, which was absolutely delicious. Despite being downstairs, we had the utmost privacy and the owners never intruded into our space. We (and our pups) felt welcome at all times.
Location: The property is located in Dunrobin, a quiet neighborhood about 30 minutes east of Ottawa, along the river. We were able to snow-shoe & cross-country ski from the property. I ran several times on the roads which we quiet and well cleared of snow and ice. One can cross-country ski and ice skate on the river but it wasn't frozen over enough for us. The property is close to mountain bike (Highland Park) too. We enjoyed the rural feel and didn't mind the short drive to the city.
I highly recommend Heather and Mark's home. I assure you it will exceed your expectations too.

Amazing apartment in an equally amazing location. The views of the river from the gorgeous garden were wonderful even on a damp wet November morning....what must it be like in summer? The apartment was extremely spacious, light, clean and beautifully furnished in a contemporary way. The kitchen was stocked with every type of utensil one may want in order to make cooking away from home more pleasurable than is normally the case. Lots of coffee and tea supplied. The bathrooms were both stocked with more towels than one could possibly need - a lovely touch from the usual one large / one small per person. The beds were so comfy that along with the peaceful and quiet surroundings one was guaranteed a sound night's sleep!
The journey into downtown Ottawa was an easy 20 minute drive. Midway is Bayshore Mall where there is an excellent supermarket which stocks everything you could possibly need. Also a few nice stores to buy those little extra special treats. During our short stay we had an incredible dinner in The Fish Market Restaurant in Byward Market.
Finally, Heather and Mark were very welcoming hosts. When Heather realised we were serious tea drinkers she insisted we have a box of tea (not teabags!) she had recently been given by a friend........that says it all!
Would We recommend staying here to others? Most definitely! We have already said should we be in the Ottawa area again we would stay at this wonderful place. The next time though we will aim for 'non-winter' so we could throw open the French doors and enjoy the garden.

Nothing but the best

The stay provided to us by this "homeaway" was truly the best we have experienced in our stays in these type of facilities. As advertised by the owner, it is truly luxurious with the entire living and sleeping spaces overlooking the Ottawa River and Quebec shoreline. The spaces were clean and the kitchen and bathrooms large and fully stocked. After the thorough and pleasant briefing by the owner (who lives above the rental area), we two couples enjoyed the facilities in complete and quite privacy. While we were able to enjoy the use of the suite, we unfortunately could not really make use of the substantial outdoor spaces and facilities including a fire-pit that were offered to us. The weather at the time we traveled just wasn't warm enough. Of course, those who are looking at this site will realize that there is no public transport from Ottawa so a vehicle is a necessity. It took us about 40 minutes to get to downtown Ottawa. The wi-fi was included and reliable. The owner told us that, depending on the carrier, cell phones may not work at the home. Indeed, we found that our carrier "Rogers" only worked about 2 kms from the home. A small price to pay for the wonderful location.

Best Summer Getaway

We loved our stay at Dunrobin Shores. The suite was well equipped with all the necessities needed for a comfortable vacation....the rooms were beyond comfortable. The decor was so lovely.... nice to have satellite TV so we could have jazz music playing while we enjoyed the patios...the view is breathless and swimming great. Lots of levels to sit and have different views. The traffic on the Ottawa river was wonderful with all the sailboats and canoes and pleasure boats....really felt you were in a summer setting...we took a day trip to Gatineau Hills and enjoyed the view from the other side. Sunsets and sunrises were spectacular. Ottawa shopping was close by and a great grocery and LCBO in a plaza very near. Owners were on property and they were delightful....did not see much of them but when we did it was a nice visit. Really a private setting in luxurious accommodations.....best summer getaway we have had.....did not want to come home!!!!
