My husband is a very talented carpenter. Using his skills we decided to build our dream retirement home on Guana Cay. My parents had a second home in Marsh Harbour where we spent many of our family vacations. It was a dream for a child like myself fascinated with this subtropical environment. We consider ourselves very fortunate to be able to return to this beautiful part of the world.
After looking long and hard around the Abacos, we choose to build on the south end of Great Guana Cay because for many reasons. The Abacos and Great Guana Cay are a boater & fisherman's delight and is what attracted us to this part of the world. There are so many islands to explore. Just from our end of Guana you can kayak down to Scotland Cay where there is one of the most beautiful tropical beaches in the Bahamas while exploring a couple of uninhabited islands on the way. We also appreciated the beauty of this undeveloped part of the island and yet be in the settlement in 5 minutes by golf cart.
There are only 15 houses on this end of the island and it gives you the feeling you are in a special part of the world when you leave the pavement behind and jump on the sandy roads of the south end. I find it remarkable that if the wind is blowing from one side of the island you can retreat to the calm waters of the other side. Yet there is always a breeze at Gumbo Limbo. We appreciate that the conveniences of the settlement when we long for civilization is only 5 minutes away.
