The house is in beautiful redwood-lined Madrone Canyon but situated on a sunny southern facing hillside where you can soak up the warm Marin County, California sunshine. It's just a 10 minute walk into the town of Larkspur where you can have a fantastic meal at a different restaurant every day of the week. You will be just a 15 minute car ride to the Golden Gate Bridge and the cultural destinations of San Francisco. The Wine Country, Muir Woods, Point Reyes National Seashore and all the rest are all very close.

Our rental home was built in the 1920s and has been lovingly maintained in its original condition except for the obvious updates to kitchen and bath facilities. This house has tons of charm and has everything you could want for a thoroughly relaxing vacation. You don't even need to get in your car to have an excellent adventure -- just strike out by foot or bicycle onto the nearby trails of the Mt. Tamalpais Watershed. There is an amazing offering of hiking trails and biking trails nearby.

Please note that access to the house is not for the faint of heart. To reach the front door you must either ascend or descend many stairs. If you're up for the invigorating experience, however, you'll be rewarded with beautiful views of the canyon, trees, and gardens on the property. Coming up from the bottom street you're climbing out of the shadows and cool clean air of the redwood canyon. Coming from above you'll be gazing at the the redwood treetops and admiring the landscaped gardens on the way down.

After travelling and living in many places around the world, our family found a home away from home. This place is guarded by enormous redwoods and thousands of birds. It is situated in an area full of sun and silence. The house is walking distance to a beautiful and charming Larkspur. Here you can find grosery store, coffe shops, restaurants and a movie theater. On the other hand, this place is 15 minutes drive to San Francisco city through the magnificient Golden Gate Bridge. The house is warm, very well maintenance, clean and neat. It has antiques and charming fernitures. We enjoy the kitchen full equiped, having breakfast in its sunny nook watching deers in our garden. The owners are always available and ready to help and solve any problem immediately. This is our second time in the special home, we feel the owners are already our friends.

It's a RETREAT!

It's a RETREAT!

We stayed in this home for 6 months while house hunting in Marin. We were thrilled to find The Retreat, as we now affectionately call it. We moved in with our clothes and put just about everything else into storage. It was a bit daunting, but ultimately liberating.
We found this home to be so relaxing and cozy, it made it difficult for us to motivate and get to work! We felt like we were on an extended vacation. The sunlight in the kitchen is spectacular. The trees brushing the bedroom windows give the feeling of being in a tree house. And morning yoga in the living room, surrounded by beautiful Oak and Redwood trees, so peaceful. Our 2 boys also loved it, "I sleep so well surrounded by nature". Even our dog was happy - staying on the look-out for squirrels and the passing deer.
The Retreat feels deceptively remote with it's garden setting, the birds, the deer, the incredible trees. It's a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle, while still being able to walk everywhere: to the hiking trails, to downtown, to school, to the bus stop, and of course, to Picco.
The owners are generous and gracious, honest and compassionate; they were so helpful and accommodating as we negotiated our home purchase and our move out date. We had a wonderful experience and will recommend The Retreat to our friends and family.
