Super Condo in Forest Beach
The Forest Beach community is absolutely beautiful. The condo-villas are nestled among dense woods (bring bug spray!) and surrounded by million-dollar “cottages”. The grounds are meticulously landscaped with a variety of colorful flowers and plants, and the pool, cabanas and beach are well maintained. Lounge chairs are available on the beach.
Our three children, ages 8 and 4, enjoyed the swimming in the lake and pool. We brought a collapsible wagon to carry our gear. I recommend wearing water shoes in the lake, as the rocks hurt tender feet. Although the lake is shallow for about 50 yards from the shore, our 4-year-old twins wore life vests -- the breakers were fairly strong at times.
About the condo -- After climbing 30+ stairs, you’ll find a clean, well-appointed living space decorated with what appears to be the landlord’s own photography and paintings. Select the master suite if you prefer a soft bed or choose the downstairs yellow room for a comfortably firm mattress. Our kids were afraid to be downstairs by themselves, so they mainly slept on our Aero Bed -- we alternated sleeping upstairs and down. ?
The condo is reasonably maintained; however, we found the toilet on the main level to be loose/wobbly and the shower drain in the master bathroom to be clogged (probably with sand). We found ourselves in ankle-deep water by the end of a short shower.
There is one dresser in the master suite and clothes can be hung in the hall closet, which needs reorganizing. There are no dressers in the downstairs rooms and closets are cluttered with owner’s belongings. I unpacked our boys’ clothes in the downstairs bathroom drawers. Aside from the aforementioned issues, our family had a wonderful stay and would recommend this condo, and particularly Forest Beach.
For a fun day-trip with the kids, we recommend driving to the Air Zoo in Portage, MI (a little over an hour away). It is a terrific indoor museum with WWII and newer planes, rides, a 3D theater and more.
Good places to eat: pizza at Roma, Brewsters (excellent) and Oink’s for delicious homemade ice cream. Places to avoid: El Rancho Grande and Hannah’s (undercooked fish).
