If you rent this house, you must first know that THERE ARE CAMERAS INSIDE THE HOUSE! The possibility exists that, during your vacation, YOUR PRIVACY COULD BE INVADED AT ANY TIME, AND YOU AND YOUR FAMILY COULD BE WATCHED OR VIDEOTAPED. I have just been through a very contentious attempt to get my security deposit back from the owner of this house (more about that below), and in the course of our dealings she told me that she has security cameras INSIDE the house, and that she can "check the tape". I noticed little web-cam-type cameras mounted at different points, but didn't think much of it. It was only after a conflict arose that she insinuated that the cameras were rolling. I find this possible invasion of privacy very unnerving, and wouldn't have rented the house had I known it was a possibility.
Secondly; if you are okay with the cameras and decide to rent this house, make note of and photograph anything that could be considered "damage" and report it to her immediately, so that you won't get charged for something you didn't do. The house was left tidy and neat by us. During the process of trying to get my deposit back, the communication turned ugly, and the owner started claiming that we had "trashed" her house. The owner was going to give me a large portion of my money back, but a member of my family posted a negative review to this site (for which I apologized, and had it removed). Suddenly the owner turned vindictive, and invented "damage" for which we were in no way responsible. I don't expect to recoup any of my money.
It is a pretty house, and a beautiful location, and my family had a lovely time there. It was only afterward that the experience turned sour. I wish my negotiations with the owner had remained civil, and that we had been able to resolve this issue peacefully. I'm sure she will state below that we left her house a terrible mess, but we didn't. We did make her mad with the review, though, and I regret that.
However, none of that changes the fact that it is wrong to have surveillance cameras on the INTERIOR of a rental property. It is a HUGE INVASION OF PRIVACY.
Owner's Response: Hello,
Our Michigan Summer Home has Alarm- Camera System on the property..It is a local Security System that is used in case of emergencies. I believe any home owner would have any kind of security system on their property since we are no there 24/7 and the house is used mostly during the summer. There are no tapes and we have more importante things to worry about ;-) We have signs around the property as well as inside the home that inform everyone of the Camera System.
To anyone that is interested in renting our Home..This house is not a basic rental..This is our 2nd Family Home
that we love and put so much heart into it. We ask to respect it..
We had damages dont to our Home over this summer by one family...Our deposit went up just because of them..
It is very hurt full and amazing how people can be so disrespectful to your home.
We ask for serious Guests only!!
Thank you
Anita Lisek
