One of the best houses for a family in San Diego

5 of 5
Submitted: April 2, 2013 Stayed: March 2013
Our family of five stayed here for Spring Break week. The house is everything advertised: well-situated above the marina, a short walk to the beach, very nicely appointed on the inside, and super-convenient to the airport, downtown, and shopping/restaurants. The owners have kept the house in great shape, comparable in quality and cleanliness to a high-end hotel. We loved being outside the bustle of downtown yet with immediate access to views and running/walking on the water. We found all our drives to the zoo, La Jolla, Legoland, aquarium, Maritime museum, etc. easy to navigate. There are plenty of great restaurants within a few miles. Finally, the owners are friendly and responsive, and we appreciate their help in adding a Blu-Ray player to the house. I'm a HomeAway employee who has stayed in many vacation rentals. This one rates highly among them.

Spectacular Views

This home has perhaps the best views available in San Diego. It's central location gave us easy access to all the activities we went to in the San Diego area. It was our annual "girls get away" vacation and we enjoyed this lovely home.

Great Place to Stay

We stayed at the property for the 4th of July weekend. The home was beautiful and in a great location. We walked to the bay, canoed through the boats, and visited local restaurants in walking distance. It was one of the best family vacations we have taken. The management was helpful and available when needed. If you are looking for a first class property, this is it.

Family Reunion in Point Loma

5 of 5
Submitted: September 6, 2011 Stayed: August 2011
We were truly living the "lifestyles of the rich and famous" when my sister treated us to a Reilly girl reunion in honor of her 60th in this "champagne wishes and caviar dreams" home. She almost second-guessed herself into renting a place directly on the water, but I agree with previous reviewers in noting that being higher up, the view is actually better than those on the water. In fact, we teased my sister when observing fireworks (postgame from Petco Park) above San Diego, we said "OK, Sissy, did you order fireworks for your birthday, too?"

Also noted that you're still so close to the water that you can walk a couple of blocks to a nice path along the water - that leads to a great coffee shop; you can haul the kayak provided down there, if you like; and you can hear the harbor seals barking at night - not obnoxious, just a soft "welcome to San Diego" barking.

I'll reiterate that the bedding was more than adequate, super comfy, kitchen very well-equipped (I had a hard time finding things, but I'm not that organized. My persistent sous-chefs located all I needed.) and the gardens were beautiful and well-kept. The entertainment systems throughout the house were excellent.

The only people I would definitely not recommend this place to is families with very young (toddler age children) as there are many beautiful, stairs stone fireplaces, etc. that would make it difficult to relax with them there. You also need to have a car, but that is so with most places in southern California

I'm a travel agent and will recommend this place to my most discerning clients..

Best View and Location in San Diego!

5 of 5
Submitted: July 5, 2011 Stayed: June 2011
This was our First Visit to San Diego and I we absolutly loved it! The house in La Playa was five miles from everything. The location could not have been better. Five minutes from the airport and we were at our private villa overlooking the bay and the San Diego skyline.
Kellogge beach at the end of the street was a wonderful semi private little beach for watching the yachts come in and out of the harbor and taking the kayaks out for a tour of the bay (the kayaks are a nice touch). If you are adventurous, a trip to the bait pier out in the bay to seal watch is worth the trip on the kayaks.
The grill and the kitchen were great for cooking our catch we brought home from our fishing trip in the bay. Only minutes to the dock to charter a boat for the day. Sea World again a short car ride and we were there. We also spent a day at the San Diego Zoo also minutes away.
The patios on this home are a beautiful way to spend the day reading or taking in the views, the aroma of the gardens are very theraputic. Oj in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. The night skyline can't get much better than this!
The restaurants in town were all exceptional. We also enjoyed our visit to the Old Town for Mexican and Margaritas. A trip up the hill to the veterans cemetary on the way to the Mission has a spectacular view and worth a short drive.
The weather was amazing and NO BUGS! For a girl growing up in the humidity of the south that was another reason to love this town! There was plenty to do and I could not think of a better place to spend some quality time with people you love.
The beds were better than most high end hotels open windows and fans made for a wonderful nights sleep in this very beautiful California paradise.

Ideal location - great place

We loved our stay in Point Loma. The photos really do represent how nice you will find this house. We almost never went out to dinner because the view was spectacular; the kitchen was well stocked and beautiful too; and you could even have music on the balcony while you watched the boats go by. Every time we had a question for the owner, we received a response right away - great service. The neighborhood is upscale and impressive, too. After staying in Point Loma, we thought that other places might have an ocean view, but this place is unique because you still get the view when the sun goes down - the lights of the yachts and sail boats, and even the city skyline in the background. Last, shopping was easy and convenient, as was access to other sites and activities. We would highly recommend this house.

Great Loma Point Rental

5 of 5
Submitted: August 3, 2010 Stayed: July 2010
We always take a summer vacation to beat the heat in Phoenix AZ late July early August. We have stayed from Laguna down the coast to San Diego and choose homes that have updated kitchen baths and other creature comforts that we have at our home.

You might say that we are disciminating in our choices and when visiting other cities prefer the likes of the Mandarin Hotel in San Francisco and the Four Season (formerly Beverly Wilshire) in LA, where service and beauty is expected.

With that background, I must say that the pictures at the website do not do the house justice and they are very nice. What they do not capture is the flow of the house. It is modern, contemporay and totally put together. It has clean modern lines and is put together by someone who has extremely good taste and a great sense of fung shei.

A major irritant of mine is always having to pack spices and the like as I like to cook on vacation, where there is no deadline looming to distract my energies. The kitchen came fully stock with spices and nice cutlery and pots and pans, plates glasses and the like. While the rest of my family are less than concrened about this, it was a definte plus for me. The kitchen is extremely well organized and finding things is very intuitive.

The bedrooms are nice and generous, with lots of closet space in the 2 upstairs bedrooms with lots of flat screens, good choice of cable stations and honor system for movies On Demand. The master bath was wonderful, beautiful fixtures, a nice flat screen to catch up on the morning news if you chose, a wonderful shower with vertical spa to wrap your body in soothing water with very good pressure. My wife likes to camp out in nice bathrooms and spent plenty of time there.

Another nice amenity is a working office, where I can get off my blackberry and actually go on a full sized computer with guest privileges and see things as I would in my office, with printinting capabilities if I needed it. My son used the wifi to do whatever tweens do all day when they are glued to them and said there was generally good reception.

Last but not least was the view of the Shelter Island and the wonderful view of downtown San Diego. They had two viewing points, upstairs, on the patios outside the 2 bedrooms, and on the first floor deck, with a great pair of Canon IS binoculars to zoom in on the yachts and Navy ships.

I would recommend this home to anyone who is discriminating in their vacation rentals.
