Casa Caracol surpassed my expectations in almost every way. I absolutely loved staying here and this was likely the most relaxing vacation I have experienced. I would recommend Casa Caracol for anyone. I think it is especially suitable for 2 couples or for two friends traveling together. The rate for a week was excellent and hard to beat. The house is beautiful and serene and quite spacious. There is no air conditioning as the house is an open air concept with screened doors and shutters. At no point did it seem too hot. You can hear the sounds of nature and the quiet of its jungle location at night will allow you to sleep like a baby. The home is nicely furnished and you will have all the kitchen essentials you need. We didn’t cook very much but it was nice to wake up and have a cup of amazing Nicaraguan coffee out on the patio where you have an amazing view of the jungle with the Pacific in the distance. The beds are comfortable, the wi-fi worked most of the time and we never once turned on the television here. The lovely shared Infinity pool is a very short one minute walk from the house. Most of the time, I had it to myself with the only intruders being the howler monkeys in the trees. The house was cleaned twice during my week stay and this was sufficient. As far as any safety concerns I wouldn’t worry. There is a guard that monitors the property and you could easily hear if anyone was approaching the house in car or on foot. There is a lockbox for valuables and I felt fairly safe at all times. As anywhere, exercise caution, don’t be flashy and use your best common sense and I am sure you will be just fine. You do need a 4X4 here. The road up to the house takes 25 minutes from the turn off in San Juan Del Sur and it is bumpy almost the entire way. There are a few spots that are a bit tricky, especially just before getting to the house as well as the drive down to the beach (which is stunning and by far the best beach I came across). I drove every day I was here, including at night and was quite proud of myself that I managed with no issues. I did not mind the drive as it seemed like an adventure every time. You will be dodging cows, chickens, ducks, pigs, horses, people, potholes, and at night, huge black tarantulas! Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and am already thinking about when to go back!
