Our annual city retreat

4 of 5
Submitted: May 14, 2013 Stayed: January 2013
We live right outside of Boston and have made this wonderful apartment our annual city retreat for January and February for the past 10 years. The location is fantastic, and accommodations are perfect. The best restaurants in Boston are within blocks. Live music down the street at Darryl’s Corner Bar and Wally’s Café –not to mention Symphony Hall. We’re particularly fond of SoWa First Fridays close by at 450 Harrison Ave where a multitude of galleries and artist studios hold a monthly open house. Our hosts have made us feel like part of their family. They call us the "same time next year couple". The apartment is well maintained, furnishings are updated regularly. We highly recommend it and the owners Karoline and Todd. Always a lovely experience.
Owner's Response: Thanks Mark and Deborah. We look forward to your visit every year.

Excellent stay in a studio in the South End, very clean, comfortable. Landlady was very nice and accomodating, allowed me to stay till 5pm on the day I was checking out as I had a late flight. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy Boston.

Great location, small bed

Submitted: October 7, 2011 Stayed: September 2011
The best thing about this listing is the location and the space of the apartment. Very roomy, nicely decorated. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the size of the bed. It was clearly a short queen and not a double. In the picture the bed is visible, but I thought it was a fold-out bed. When you're petite the bed will work, but we are both tall and a bit bigger so it was a nightly struggle and improvisation was needed with pillows and such.
We do have to add, that the dishwasher was dirty. But we didn't use it, so not a big problem. Be sure to save quarters if you plan on doing some washing; dryer is $2 and the washer is $1 (minimum).
But the neighbourhood was fantastic; I highly recommend Orinoco for dining out. Great Venezolean food and a lttle further on W. Dedham Street try Don Ricardo's, also for a good South-American meal. Public transport is on your doorstep: Bus 43 on Tremont Street, Bus 1 on Mass Av. will take you in and out of the city.
Highlight of our trip was a Red Sox game, what an event!
Owner's Response: The bed is accurately described and depicted as a standard US double bed. It is fine for two avarage size adults.

The flat is very cute, clean, fully equipped, within walking distance to nice restaurants and with good transport links to the city centre. The host is very accommodating and gave us good advices to get the most out of our brief stay in Boston.
I'd happily suggest this property to a couple or a small family

Location Good

Overall, I was disappointed with this apt rental. However, the location was good for area activities. There was a mildew-like smell on arrival. The furniture was mostly shabby. The bed was confining for 2 adults. Perhaps ok for 2 small adults. Definitely would not consider it romantic. I paid for a week, but due to threat of Hurricane Irene, decided to leave the area after only a night's stay. We didn't want to be in a basement apt with threat of flooding. Informed that we wouldn't receive any refund. No views of the area from this rental. No, I would not recommend to anyone.
Owner's Response: The apartment is not in the basement. It has large stained glass windows with a view of the private garden that is right out side of the door. Also, there isn't any mildew in the unit. Therefore, no smell of that nature or other wise. As per news reports, Boston was not going to be affected by the hurricane which I mentioned to guest and it was not. There is a photo of the bed on the listing and the refund policy is clearly stated. In addition, the guest was offered complimentary night stay and discount if she wished to return in the future.

Off the Beaten Path

Great studio/garden apartment. Fantastic location in the South End neighborhood and close to the T and bus lines. Nice alternative to standard hotel option. However, listing of amenities should be updated so that patrons know to bring their own items such as bath soap and hair dryer. Other than that, nice, quiet space, access to your own patio/garden area and worked well for a weekend getaway. Owner was easy to work with as well.

Wonderful Time--Perfect Location

What an amazing time my family had in Boston and it had a lot to do with our stay at this property. It was the perfect size for myself, my husband and our 7 month old. The property is only blocks away from one of the main subway stations on Mass. Avenue however, the area this property is in is PERFECT. It is the South End Historic Area which has great restaurants, cutest coffee shops (Flour Bakery is fantastic) and fun bars. The landlords live above this unit and they are a wonderful family very helpful. In fact, we wanted a "grown-ups" night out and Karoline (owner) very kindly arranged her babysitter for us. What a treat.

Great place to stay!

We enjoyed our time in Boston, and the apartment was a good place to call "home" while we were there. It's in a great location - a few blocks from the public transportation system, Walgreens, and various restaurants. We would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Boston - especially if you don't want to rent a car while you're there!
