You can't buy serenity--but you can rent it!

NOW BOOKING SUMMER VACATIONS!

PLEASE NOTE: IN SUMMER, WE RENT BY FULL WEEK ONLY, FROM SATURDAY TO SATURDAY.

Iona Cabin is located on Big Creek, just half a mile from the Greenbrier River and some of the best small-mouth bass fishing in the East, and three miles from the confluence of the Greenbrier with the New River. Bluestone Lake, the New River Gorge National River, and several state parks and wildlife management areas make this one of West Virginia's most scenic locations.

With Iona Cabin rental, you get exclusive use of the entire 11 acre, secluded property, accessed by a private, graveled driveway from Big Creek Road. It is entirely wooded, and the beautiful, cascading Big Creek tumbles right through it, with your private walking trail alongside the stream. Just below the cabin itself, you have your own natural ''swimming hole.''

New! We added air conditioning for the 2012 summer season. We have a new, tile shower, and an automated well water filtration system.

Worry Free Zone!: Iona Cabin is a two-bedroom log cabin hideaway, with two adjoining decks. It has a great room with cathedral ceiling, fully-equipped kitchen, master bedroom, and shower-bath on the first floor. Upstairs, the loft contains a second bedroom and a half-bath. There is an outdoor shower below the deck.

Iona Cabin is a quiet, get-away retreat. You’ll find your anxiety level plummeting as you enter the long, private driveway, and you'll want to spend days on end just luxuriating in the peace and serenity of this beautiful and tranquil, natural setting of almost eleven acres, clad in hardwood, hemlock, and native rhododendron. If inner harmony is your goal, Iona Cabin is your destination.

Wild IS Wonderful in West Virginia!: Iona Cabin is also a great home base for an active, outdoor vacation. Whether you like fishing or hunting; skiing on water or snow; river 'tubing,' white-water rafting, kayaking, or canoeing; hiking or mountain biking; golfing; horse-back riding; or sight-seeing, Iona Cabin is right in the center of a wealth of recreational opportunities--that is, if you can tear yourself away from your own private swimming hole on the babbling Big Creek.

Nearby Hinton is an authentic West Virginia, Appalachian town, quaint and charming, filled with friendly and hospitable people. As yet unspoiled by big city ways and influences, Hinton is blessed with natural beauty, access to rivers, lakes, and mountains, proximity to state and national parks and forests, and easy accessibility from urban centers in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina, making it an ideal base for get-away excursions whether for quiet retreat or active, outdoor fun.

Rustic Does Not Have To Mean Primitive! Enjoy blessed quiet and tranquility, yet stay connected to home and work through smart phone and laptop, via wireless internet. Iona is a great setting for completing a project, or for having quality time with someone you love.

The satellite WiFi means you never have to feel cut-off, even when you are enjoying the splendid isolation of the West Virginia woodlands. Your smart phone will bring in your email, also.

Why Donald Vinson chose Pipestem

This was a beautiful property, in an area yet undiscovered by east-coast tourism. We have space, privacy, quiet, and great natural beauty only 3 hours from our home.

What makes this cabin unique

The acreage, the natural landscape, the creek to play in, and the lack of close neighbors make for a very peaceful setting.

Disappointed

The location of this cabin is lovely and quiet. It's perfect. The cabin its self was a disappointment. We arrived to a cabin that was not clean, I mean mud on the floor, dirty counter tops not clean. The baseboard heating in the living room did not function, and one of the portable units had been left too close to the woodburner, it didn't work either. It appeared that bathroom updates had been started or repairs needed to be made...... The tile on the floor and in the shower were not complete and the shower floor itself was very "spongy" because of it. The view outside the back deck was lovely but trees had been downed and were left where they fell. This was not a last minute reservation, it was scheduled at least 4 to six weeks in advance.
The cabin needs a thorough cleaning and all the amenities listed need to be repaired or removed from the description. The TV and WIFI do function as does the dishwasher and stove. We stay in rentals several times a year and this was our first true disappointment.
Owner's Response: We are terribly sorry this guest had an unsatisfactory visit. There were some issues with the home at the time, and we returned extra refund along with their deposit by way of apology. Here's what happened: I replaced the pre-fab shower, which was leaking, with a much larger, tiled one. It was going great until I got sick, with the job unfinished, guests due, and no time to take off from it. I wound up with a functioning shower, but something of a mess. There was no mud or dirt on the floor, that was tile adhesive, extremely difficult to remove. It is coming up, with serious elbow grease. The plumber tells us that new-fangled shower base pan is supposed to be a bit spongy.

Dish TV told us we had to take down two trees in back. We did, hurriedly, to get the satellite functioning. Turns out, that was not even the problem, it was their receiver. Now, we have a search on for someone willing to complete the tree clearing, and hope to have it done very soon, perhaps next week.

The baseboard heaters' breaker switch had tripped. All the kitchen appliances, 2 TVs, washer and drier, function fine. We had 3 service calls to our water system, but it is fully functional again, too.

It's spring cleaning week this week, and Iona Cabin will be in top condition for spring and summer guests.

Great Time - with an unexpected snow fall!

Great time at the cabin. The direcions are easy to follow and the cabin is easy to find. Upon arrival, we unloaded the car then went to town to stock up on groceries, explore the area a bit, then grab an easy dinner.

The next day, the snow came - about 4 - 6 inches over the next few days. Hiking and fishing were out, but we were very cozy in the cabn and enjoyed the beautiful scenery outside.

I will defenitely come back in the future!

Very Quiet Winter Get-Away

We had a lovely time in IONA Cabin. It was clean and quietly situated. The listing is totally accurate. There were no surprises. The owner was very responsive and helpful. I would not recommend booking in the winter because the roads were pretty treacherous when we went and there is not much hiking on the property. We went to a nearby park for hiking and horseback riding but very little was available in February. Great for a weekend, but a week in February was a little long as there is NOTHING to do in Hinton proper.

Iona Cabin

My stay was the perfect retreat from suburbia. The location was private, quiet, and secluded. I was able to bring my Swiss Mountain Dog along because I promised to rid the cabin of her dog hair.
The cabin was comfortable and cozy, and the owner thoughtfully stocked the kitchen with any appliance one might need during a stay.
Every morning I awoke to the sound of the creek. The snow was a beautiful blanket of white and the temperatures remained below freezing so the snow remained.
There was plenty of cut and covered firewood for my ten night stay (I did not want to leave).
Satellite TV and Internet worked great.
I spent a lot of time on the deck listening to and watching the water tumble over the rocks in the creek.
The owner was pleasant and easy to work with through the entire process.
I rented many cabins that were equipped with hot tubs and extra bedrooms that I never used. Iona cabin was exactly what I needed.
This cabin was by far the greatest value I found.
I am looking forward to staying at Iona Cabin during the fall with its foliage and the spring with its flowers and greenery.
Kroger Grocery was less than a ten minute drive from the property and I found everything I needed. Within minutes of the cabin are lakes and rivers for anyone who loves fishing, etc.
The description and photos of this property are reflective of what I experienced during my stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful review of our property. We feel the same way about it, but it's like one of our kids--we are so pleased when someone else appreciates it, too! We didn't find a single SMDog hair. Thank you for taking good care of our home!

Quiet and Peaceful

We stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend and we absolutely loved it. Within minutes of walking in it felt like our home away from home. The kitchen was stocked even better than our kitchen at home (the only thing we couldn't find was a vegetable peeler). We loved that there was even a slow cooker there. It was so quiet and peaceful, it was exactly what we needed. We never once turned on the tv or used the internet, but it was nice knowing it was there if we needed it. We loved hearing the train go by every once in a while. It even snowed a little on Saturday, which made it even more cozy inside. We kept a fire burning most of the time during the day and it kept it very nice and warm in the cabin. We went to the nearby waterfalls on the New River and it was nice having something so beautiful so close to the cabin. We loved it, highly recommend going to this cabin if you need some time to relax. Thanks again!

Peace in the Woods

We loved our recent stay at this great cabin. Wished we could have stayed longer. The pictures did not give it justice, as this cabin is way much bigger than it appears & just over-all beautiful. They supplied just about anything you could have needed for a great stay. Our bulldog enjoyed it as much as we did as he stayed in the yard & with no one else around & the cabin being off the road we did not have to worry about him as much as we do at home. The only difficulty we had was finding the turn as I used the GPS but did not realize that it only found the road not the cabin address. Neighbors were really friendly & let us use their phone. Just a suggestion that I should have thought more about before leaving is to make sure you know where you are going, but only created a small problem. We enjoyed the Hinton Railroad Days on Sunday & Pipestem as well. The leaves were great this time of year as well as the weather. We will for sure be back!!!

Reunion of Friends

This cabin was PERFECT for our little getaway from the hustle and bustle of Tampa Florida - owning a business, being a preschool teacher, mommy and wife. My little family traveled and met up with my goddaughters new little family from New Jersey and we all stayed at IONA. I have always dreamed of staying in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere - and this was picture perfect. We were secluded from the world in a peaceful environment of the real wood, forests and stream. We walked along the creek and explored with our 3 year old, she caught her very first trout on her little barbie fishing pole and was prouder then ever. (daddy too). Of course we threw it back and caught it a couple more times. We grilled every night and enjoyed the campfire with smores and hotdogs. Before we even left we all vowed to come back, even possibly make this a yearly trip so our daughters can play, and explore together. The cabin itself was in great condition, very homey and well taken care of. It had everything we would need. Thank you for letting us enjoy your cabin - we made all of our friends and family very jealous!

Great getaway for my Birthday!

IONA Cabin is a great place to relax. Enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the creek with the little waterfall. The color of the leaves turned just a little each day we were there. I bet in a week it will be really pretty to see. The cabin is furnished very nicely and has everything you would need for the stay. It has a metal roof and we were not used to this, so it took us awhile to figure out all the noises especially falling acorns. It rained all day Sunday, so we stayed in and enjoyed relaxing by the wood stove. Hinton is a great little town. Bluestone Dam and State Park is a nice place to visit. Pipestem is also close enough to visit.

Ladies retreat

I am thankful to have found this cabin nestled in the hills of Hinton. I spent a week here with my lady friends and we had a ball. Absolutely loved being near the creek and the wonderful swimming hole. We had a fire in the natural rock fire pit and roasted hotdogs and made s'mores. Loved hearing the creek in the morning. The cabin itself could use some repair but it was comfortable and well stocked. We floated down the river on tubes that we roped together and had a marvelous time. Would definitely come back!

A Nice Quiet Place

My wife and I and our two small children stayed at the cabin for a week and were pleased to find quiet and solitude. We live near a big city so it was nice to hear absolute silence at night. We slept great. It's far enough away from others to feel isolated but close enough to town to be convenient. The creek was the playground for our 2 year old all week. We also enjoyed the nature and even saw snakes, bears, deer, bald eagles, chipmunks, and a few massive (but harmless) wolf spiders out and about. It's an hour away from Lewisburg & White Sulfur Springs, which were nice day trips for us. The cabin is well appointed, but not entirely childproof. Our son listens well to his parents, so this was not a problem. We'd stay here again.
