Charming Cottage Get Away

My boyfriend and I live in Lahaina on Maui, but we had a houseguest coming to stay who always wanted to check out Hana. The three of us are not much for camping, so on a whim, I booked this cottage not really knowing what to expect, but when we arrived, we all fell in love with the place. The cottage is about 3 miles outside of Hana town, but only a 5 minute drive away from one of my favorite beaches on Maui: Wai'anapanapa's Black Sand Beach. The cottage is tucked down at the edge of a flower farm, so the landscaping is gorgeous. We were promptly greeted by a super sweet pitbull girl. During our two night stay, we saw her everyday--she might have even been the highlight of our trip! The cottage is cozy and quaint with all the fixings: fully equipped kitchen (minus an oven), a TV with a DVD player, a stereo system, beach and bath towels, and a hot tub. The two bedrooms were comfortable and cool (we didn't even need to turn on the fans at night), and it was absolutely lovely falling asleep to the sound of rain at night. The cottage was a great home base for all of our adventures. We cooked breakfasts at home, then went out for adventures (if you can, check out the great hike along the Pipiwai Trail up to Waimoku Falls at the Haleakala National Park). We made a big dinner the night after our hike, but the night we arrived we went to the Hana Ranch Restaurant (pricey but delicious). We wanted to check out the small Thai place that's in town, but it was closed when we rolled up to the place. The Tradewinds Cottage is one of the most charming, well-equipped rentals that I've had the pleasure of staying at in Hana. We will definitely be booking this place for future visits.
