OK but beware of certain issues
Our family stayed here for five days in July and we really enjoyed the area. Lake Wallenpaupak is a beautiful lake. As far as the cabin is concerned, it's nice but there are a few issues you should be aware of:
First, when we arrived the wireless broadband was not working. It was set up on a secure network which the owners knew nothing about. The previous tenants apparently set up the wireless to be a secure network with their own password. We had to log into the router and reset it on our own because the owners were unable to fix the issue. This should have been checked prior to our arrival.
Second, this cabin gets extremely hot and there's not very good ventilation, so just beware. The ceiling fans don't cool the place down at all (there is no central air).
Third, if you plan on camping outside and roasting marshmallows the mosquitos are horrific. This is especially pertinent for those with small children. Even with bug spray we all left with several bites on our legs and arms.
Fourth, the "laugh, live, love" room picture is a bit deceptive because the whole room actually looks like a basement and there's no windows in the room (at least to where you could look out or get better ventilation).
Fifth, while the bathroom downstairs has been "remodeled" it must be hooked up to a small exhaust pump because apparently it got plugged up from using flushable baby wipes (this cost us our security deposit, so you should be aware that things like this could happen to you too).
Sixth, the owners require a cleaning fee up front as part of the deposit and then leave a printed notice that if you wish to leave the cabin without cleaning it they will have someone do it, which will be taken from the security deposit. This in effect comprises two cleaning fees and is totally deceptive. When we asked the owners about this they said there was only one fee and apologized for the confusion. Had we not asked them about it we would have paid double in cleaning fees. So there seems to be some credibility issues.
Well, I suppose that's it. If you enjoy the area, Wallenpaupak lake is awesome. Just beware if you rent this place as you could end up being burned. There are a lot of rental cabins around the lake so there are plenty to choose from.
Owner's Response: This guest brought up some very good points, some we can control & some we cannot. First, we were unaware that someone could hack into & change the security settings on our wireless router. We had it set w/o a password for ease of use & had never encountered that problem. Second, this has been an unusually hot summer for the mountains & we have since put in a window mount A/C unit. Third, although we wish we had control over mosquitos in the woods, we do not. Fourth, our Live, Laugh, Love bedroom is a very nicely finished bedroom in the basement and does not have windows with views. The bedroom does look just like the picture. Fifth, in reference to the plugged septic pump, in fifteen years this has never happened. The "flushable wipes" mentioned in our review, according to the plumber (who removed them from the septic pump) & my husband (who removed the package & many of the same wipes from the garbage) are not "flushable". Since the cost of the plumber's service exceeded the security deposit and was caused by the renters negligence, we kept the security deposit (we lost $ on this). So that this hopefully never happens again, we have posted signs to "not flush diapers, wipes and feminine hygiene products..." Sixth... there was a mis-communication on the cleaning fee and we leave it as "optional" and only one fee is asked for if you would like this property cleaned. The cleaning fee is stated on our Booking Form initially & a second time at the property because there have been many guests who plan to clean the property themselves, & then change their minds at the end of their stay & wish to have the property cleaned for them. In these cases, we end up holding the cleaning fee (only) from their security deposit. We will clarify how this is communicated. As for our credibility, we responded immediately to this renters call, driving over to try to resolve the WiFi issue as well as answer other questions that they had. As stated in our Terms & Conditions under "Owners Agreement" we ask that if a renter has a problem with our rental property that they bring it to our attention immediately so that we have the opportunity to satisfy them.
