Chicago getaway

We met relatives from California in an across country long weekend getaway. Our party of 4 adults and a 2 year-old had more than enough room in this wonderful and spacious condo. The kitchen was terrific and we enjoyed being able to cook meals and spend time together rather than eating all our meals out.

While the condo is well north of the city, it’s a pretty drive in. You don't need to go downtown however as there are a number of great restaurants nearby and the big old homes around Northwestern University are well worth a driving tour of the surrounding area. Additionally, we took advantage of the close proximity to the shoreline for our morning runs followed by the required Starbucks stop.

We loved having access to a garage parking space as street parking is easy to come by during the day but disappears altogether at night.

The second story location was a bit challenging for one member of our party as the condo is actual on the 3rd floor, up 30 stairs.

Overall we were all very pleased with the accommodations. We would definitely recommend this condo and would stay there again should we go back to the Windy City.

The condo is amazing. Is very comfortable, it has a lot of space and the lightning is perfect. It is very clean and the kitchen has al the necesary stuf for cooking and it´s very comfortable to kook there.
There is a supermarket, a train station and bus stop close. The best pizza in the world is deliver to the house and even though it is far away from downtown the condo is very beatiful and comortable. We recieved and amazing treatment from the owner. I would defentily recomend this place, bu is good to know that it would take you like one hour to get to downtown, altough belmont is relativly close. It´s worth it, you would feel like home in your vacation.
Owner's Response: You can actually reach the city center in 25 minutes on the Union Pacific Train. Also if driving Lake Shore Drive is not only the most beautiful drive but also the quickest way to get the the Mag Mile. The usual drive time is 20 minutes.

We stayed at the "Residence on the Ave" with our two toddler's (ages 2 and 1) and my parents for the weekend. It was a very positive experience. The spacious condo was spotless and comfortable. The owner was easy to communicate with in setting up our stay and the property managers, Glen and Ross, were accommodating and pleasant. What you see is what you'll get here: a clean, tasteful, updated space with all the amenities that you'll need. Well done.

Upscale Urban Retreat

We very much enjoyed having a spacious three bedroom condo for our recent Chicago visit. It was so nice to be able to make our own coffee and breakfast in the morning. The living room and dining were well appointed with lots of windows and plenty of seating for guests. It was nice to have two lovely bathrooms and a washer dryer to freshen our traveling clothes. Parking was not a problem, even for a second car. It is an older building, so you will hear a bit of footsteps from the condo above. The stairs up to the third floor were excellent cardio, but no problem if you are reasonably able bodied. The urban avenues surrounding the condo were good for walking the dog and getting some fresh air. Stopped for lunch at the excellent gastropub Acre on Clark for lunch. While older, the condo is very nicely renovated with updated bathrooms, gourmet kitchen and comfortable furniture. Loved our stay. Hope it's available next time we visit Chicago.

Perfect for our Reunion Week

5 of 5
Submitted: November 7, 2011 Stayed: October 2011
We reserved this condo for a week of reunion activities tied in to Homecoming at Northwestern University. It turned out to be a perfect spot for us and the two other couples who shared the condo with us during the week. We were less than 10 minutes drive from Evanston and all of our various activities at the University and elsewhere. Grocery shopping was a snap with a very nice Dominick's store just about a mile away.

We were greeted by the in-house property managers at the appointed time. Check-in and check-out were very easily done. The wireless internet access worked well, even with several of us online at the same time.

The condo was just as described and the pictures were very accurate, down to being able to count the number of chairs available. This turned out to be very important for a gathering we hosted for about 16 people one morning. With a little bit of furniture rearranging, we were able to sit in a large circle in the living/dining room area with drinks and snacks close at hand in the kitchen.

The unit was very clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was great -- big and well-stocked with most of the cooking equipment and utensils I needed to prepare dinner for 40 (served at a friend's home but cooked in the condo kitchen).

The garage space was very helpful, especially when we were out later in the evening. Parking was simple to find on the street during the day, but spaces filled up at night. It appears to be a neighborhood in transition, with lots of rehabbing going on in various buildings on the street. We felt a bit safer being able to go into the garage rather than parking and walking on the street at night.

I would certainly recommend this property to others and would book it again for our next visit to Evanston/Chicago.

Wonderful Time!

The pictures do not do this property justice. When we entered the condo we were very excited to see how nice this place really is. Great open floor plan, great furnishings and perfect size for our family of 6.
The property managers, Glen and Ross, were very nice and helpful with any questions we had. The drive to the heart of the city takes anywhere between 10 and 20 minutes depending on traffic, but the condo is worth the drive! Would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the Chicago area!!!

Exactly as Described!

The condo was exactly as described - beautifully decorated and very spacious. Bedrooms were comfortable and kitchen was well stocked with tools. Wonderful stay and would recommend. The only thing I would say is if you have young children, you are probably always going to be worried about bothering somebody. Although no one ever complained about our children running around or raising their voices, I was very stressed that we were bothering someone after seeing the memo about being quiet!

This is just a wonderful apartment with all the modern conveniences, with three good sized bedrooms, one of which is a marvellous en suite master bedroom, and with huge windows that really give the living area a special feeling.... It's well located for Evanston and is really only a half an hour's drive from the Loop... The on site managers are friendly and accommodating....Grocery stores and restaurants are within easy reach...All in all, a great find.

A comfortable apartment for a family of 5

4 of 5
Submitted: January 6, 2011 Stayed: November 2010
Bottom line: Enjoyed our stay. Would stay there again.

Pros:
* Apt kept in very good condition, very roomy. Beds were comfy, great kitchen and dining/livingroom. It was really like a home away from home.
* Two bathrooms, both with a bathtub. One bathroom is roomy with a separate shower stall in addition to the bathtub, which had a built-in sauna.
* Owner was very nice and helpful before during and after our stay. He gave us latitude to check out late. Paid with PayPal.
* Standard SUV fit in garage parking space. (Parking on the street not always easy to find. Sometimes you need to park half a block away.)
* Big flat-screen TV with built-in DVD player in living room above gas fireplace.
* If you keep kosher, this will matter to you: flatware can be kashered, as can a couple of the pots. There is a glass baking pan as well. The oven was self-cleaning. Lots of glasses for drinking. Two stainless steel sinks.

Cons:
* The phone didn't work at first. We had to rely on cell phones a few days until owner brought a new phone. Those few days cost us.
* We have 3 children ages 9, 7 and 1, with lots of toys and baby stuff always around. The owner asked us not to put this stuff directly on the coffee table, but to cover it, because it is very valuable and he was worried about it getting scratched. Our toddler took the covering off a lot, so that added a lot of stress, to constantly make sure that the covering was back on the coffee table.
* The furnace in the apartment can be very noisy. My wife is a light sleeper and sometimes we had to choose between warmth and quiet. Chicago in Nov/Dec suggested warmth was more important.
* No curtains in living room+many big windows=privacy issues. People on the street waved to us.

Notes:
* Broadband, but no WiFi. We brought a long network cable. The router is not in a convenient location otherwise.
* The pitter-patter of our kids' feet was audible in other apts. Only once did anyone complain, though, when the kids were really wild.
* The owner starts you off with some toilet paper and paper towels etc., and whatever previous guests left.
* We didn't feel comfortable having some friends over because they also had little kids and we were worried that they might damage the coffee table or some other part of the apartment.
* It's two floors above the building entrance, no elevator.
* When I notified the owner of problem with phone, he came as promptly as possible with a new one.
