This luxury retreat is nestled in the trees on 10 beautiful acres of mature spruce and hardwoods in the picturesque resort community of Harbor Springs Michigan – often called the Aspen of the Midwest. It is the perfect vacation home....would be lovely for an intimate wedding gathering as well.

Located on a private 10-acre parcel, yet just a two-minute drive from downtown Harbor Springs, you'll enjoy the feeling of 'getting away from it all', while still being close to Lake Michigan, dining, shopping, boating etc. For skiing, Boyne Highlands and Nubs Nob are less than 10 minutes away.

Custom built by Richard Darnton/Darnton Builders, this 5,930 square foot log home has many beautiful artistic elements –a hand-crafted timber stairway with twig railings, pine wall paneling with custom milled edge detail, interior hewn beams salvaged from a local church, and a reading nook in the great room built from a hollowed-out tree trunk.

The gourmet kitchen featuring a Wolf range, Subzero refrigerator, large walk-in pantry and granite countertops is open to the cozy gathering room and takes advantage of woodland views and a spectacular stone fireplace. A large screened porch (also with a stunning stone fireplace), and expansive deck provide plenty of room to enjoy nature and the outdoors in this extraordinary northern Michigan setting just a few minutes from Lake Michigan.

The home is ideal for entertaining and family gatherings. Rooms are spacious and thoughtfully furnished. The great room has a twenty five foot high ceiling; the walk-out lower level features a game room and family room. And if you love sports, there also an indoor basketball/sports court!

The master suite is on the main floor and features two walk-in closets, a private deck and a large bathroom with tiled shower and double sinks. The bath area is designed for relaxing with a vintage tub set into a niche framed with hewn timbers. Three spacious bedrooms,full bath and a loft are located on the 2nd floor.

A personal office space just off the spacious foyer is the perfect place to work from home.

If you are looking for a spacious, private, and clean home with all of the amenities--this is the place for you. My wife and children met my brother-in-law and his family and stayed for Labor Day weekend. There is plenty of parking space, a nature trail (perfect colors when we went), a large kitchen that my Italian sister-in-law loved, fireplace for late-nighters, multiple bathrooms, cable TV (had to catch my Fighting Irish football game), and indoor basketball court that was always full of activity. Very close to downtown Harbor Springs as well. We rode our bikes on one occasion--but beware the ride back as it's uphill most of the way.

Looking through the photos of the house on this website brought back very good memories. I personally enjoyed the welcome note the owner wrote on a chalkboard for us.

The four of us arrived to our girls week end in the woods of Harbor Springs with groceries for a gourmet meal. Made a fire in the floor to ceiling stone fire place, picked out our rooms, put on some music on and relaxed with beauty and nature all around us. This is a magical place of wood, stone and everything you need to feel at home. I highly recommend it. The owner Karen, greeted us and walked us through the details of the house and handed over the key. We didn't even want to go shopping or explore Petoskey as the house and being in it became our main attraction. There was a game room downstairs, TV and a basketball court. We enjoyed every minute. You have to be in this home to feel the magic of its fine design and careful attention to detail. We hope to come back soon!!

Perfect for family with teenagers

Perfect house for my husband and me, our teenage daughter and three of her teenage friends. We loved the porches and outdoor fire pit as well as the half basketball court and game room. Kitchen and pantry were well stocked and the house was a clean and friendly place to be. I would recommend the house to families with kids of all ages.

Perfect For Us!!

We wanted to start a new tradition of taking some time as an extended family (2 married children, one grandchild, one still single son) and this was an ideal place for that to happen. This home is very spacious and provided everyone have their own private spaces yet the common areas for time together were perfect for playing games, reading and, of course, eating. The kitchen made putting our meals together great fun - top notch appliances and plenty of room for everyone to get into the action. Everything you need to make fantastic meals (pots & pans, kitchen tools, etc.) are right there for your use.

As you might imagine, in the middle of winter, the fireplace was a big attraction and we spent a lot of time around it - especially after people came back from skiing, snowboarding or just walks through the beautiful woods surrounding this home.

The indoor half court got a lot of use and the competition was fierce to see who was the best "lightening" player (I was not, apparently) and there are other games as well. There is a T.V. but we never turned it on - too much other fun stuff to do. There are lots of books and games there if you want to use them.

Proximity to the ski hills, to town (Harbor Springs or Petoskey) make this a very convenient place and the owners were super attentive to making sure we had a great stay. Hope we can come back next year too!
