My wife and I did not want to leave this wonderful apartment on the beautiful island of St. Croix when our week was finished. In fact, when we were at the airport, we were hoping our flight would be overbooked so that we would "have to" stay one more day. Unfortunately for us, that was not the case.
The apartment is perfect for a couple who wants to make it a base for touring the island during the day, before settling in at night to watch the lights shimmer off the water below the private deck. It literally has everything you need--and then some! As others have pointed out, it's really nice to be greeted by fresh groceries in the fridge and a bottle of Cruzan rum on the counter. Speaking of greetings, Roger met us as we pulled into the drive with a warm, friendly welcome. He then maintained the perfect balance of being very helpful while going largely unnoticed for the week that we were there.
A few tips... Rent a car. Although you can easily walk to and from Christiansted from the apartment, you will want to explore what is a very diverse island. From the east end to the west, no two parts of the island are the same. Driving on the left might be a worry for some, but there is little traffic on the roads and you are unlikely to get too lost. Despite a lack of road signs, it's not like you can ever end up too far away from your intended destination. After all, you are on an island. We were able to find most places fairly easily. For the rest, the GPS on our phones worked just fine.
Also, prepare for sticker shock when you go to restaurants or grocery stores. If you are like us, you will not want to spend more on food during you stay in St. Croix than you did on your apartment. It took us a couple days, but we discovered the key to not starving or going bankrupt on St. Croix is to eat where the locals eat. One such place is Le Reine's Chicken Shack. For $10 you can get pretty much anything on the menu at Le Reine's, and the portions are both tasty and big enough to share.
All in all, we had a great time, and we would recommend this apartment and St. Croix to any couple who is looking for a beach vacation. Roger was very welcoming, the apartment was spotless, the island is beautiful and the locals are very friendly. Needless to say, we hope to return to St. Croix in the future and we cannot imagine staying anywhere else besides Roger and Kat's apartment overlooking Christiansted.
