Homer House Rental Photos and Description
House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Experience sunny Kenai Peninsula! Homer is known as the “Cosmic Hamlet by the Sea” and is also the Halibut Fishing Capital of the world. Few places equal the diverse beauty of Homer. Seals, sea otters and whales can be seen while kayaking and bears can be viewed in the nearby Brooks Camp in Katmai National Park. If you enjoy birding, from the hills of Homer to across Kachemak Bay, the odds are good to see a possible 241 species of the 471 species in Alaska……we have all the best to offer!

Additionally Homer has been described as 'Funky and charming -- an art town on the rise,' by John Villani, author of 'The 100 Best Art Towns in America”. Whether it's writers reading at coffeehouses, musicians jamming at intimate bars, art lovers prowling galleries on First Friday or actors strutting the stage at Pier One or the Mariner Theatre, art comes alive in Homer.

We provide the homey quiet retreat you’ll want for your Alaskan vacation or getaway. Homer Ocean View Retreat is located at the end of a quiet road on a bluff with an unobstructed view of the magnificent snow-capped mountains of Kachemak Bay, the shimmering waters of Halibut Cove, and the glacier views of Kachemak Bay State Park. The house is situated on 5 lovely acres approximately 12 miles from town and therefore offers privacy from tourist activity yet is close enough to enjoy all the offerings of the nearby area.

From the living room window, one may occasionally see a lynx or black bear; additionally several female moose and young return each summer to the property. Frequently one may see ravens, eagles, and sand hill cranes.

This Homer home is outstanding. It has a Scandinavian design with lots of windows offering superb water views and was well equipped with everything you might want for your vacation. The sauna was lovely. We had such a wonderful time and loved coming back to such a welcoming spot.

This Place Always Feels Like Home!

I have come to this place several times, staying here always replenishes and relaxes me , no matter what time of year.
First day is always spent glued in the Ekornes chair by the large living room window, just staring out and finding back to myself.
I catch the shifting weathers through the vast K-Bay. It's shrouded in wooly cloud in the early mornings, but from this house, above the clouds I enjoy the vast, glittering unobstructed view of 5 glaciers, the ocean, the spit and the mountains. Majestic, without beeing flashy.
Sometimes a moose muffles by; a big bull with a full set of antlers, or a mother with calves, clearing some alder out front. The owner tells me they walk the same paths each year. A pair of cranes land to mate, eat or prune themselves, to be joined by several others - a whole little flock of cranes hang out here every day. I've seen a snow shoe hare racing by with a cone in its mouth and a bald eagle circles above, sometimes landing on the roof to claim its territory.

We can nordic ski from the front door up here in the winter, there are miles and miles of groomed trails right behind the house. In the summer, we walk or bike along the many gravel roads or head down to the post office 4 miles down the road for beautiful baked goods, fresh local coffee and the paper and perhaps an exquisite meal at the Homestead restaurant.

Mostly, we just LOOK at Homer Spit, venturing out there a couple of times a week to catch a fishing charter or taxi across to Halibut Cove. The drive in and out of town is a visual treat - but keep an eye out for moose and the odd black bear wanting to cross the road

Most days it's hard to just get out of bed. Every single room in this lovely house has stunning views and the deck, the all-weather sun room, even the sauna, offer a chance to practice our favorite art form: gazing.
Thank you for not having a TV, thank you for having wireless internet, a great collection of Alaskana literature, for stocking the sauna with excellent firewood topped off by the scent of fresh juniper twigs, and thank you for keeping the place sparse but welcoming.

This place is a wonderful retreat for couples, mature people who don't have to fill the air with noise, and who enjoy getting to breathe freely up above and away from all the busy business....
The owner continues to makes thoughtful improvements - this place feels like a loving home.

Springtime in Homer

We spent hours gazing at the blue water and snow-topped mountains of Kachemak Bay State Park from the sun porch of this perfect house. One sunset, a family of sandhill cranes joined us. One early morning, it was a moose. The kitchen is well-appointed, the claw-foot tub and wood-heated sauna are a treat after a day of hiking, and the spectacular view from the bed makes it hard to get up in the morning. You hardly notice the drive into town, because of the gorgeous scenery and moose-spotting opportunities. Besides, the Fritz Creek store is near by, and it is a source of delicious food and fresh-baked pastries not to be missed each morning. This is a special place.
