What a great deal!!!!

The property was amazing, all rooms clean, amenities are good, pools, tennis, basketball.
The owner Valdemar a great guy, went out of his way to make us feel at home, security is good, you will feel very safe.
There is a lot to do within driving distance, and hardly any traffic except for after work, about 5 pm, otherwise nothing at all.
You will not regret it.

I stayed in this apartment with my family on our trip to Fajardo. Everything about it was PERFECT! It was beautiful and well kept. Everything you could possibly think of is there for you. Waldemar is very friendly and helpful. I will most definitely stay here again!!

Less than perfect

Our family stayed at this apartment for a week and we felt that certain parts of our trip were very nice and others a bit lacking. The best parts of our vacation included the beach at Luquillo- beautiful, enjoyed a visit to the rain forest, and we really liked the food at Di Yukas which is a restaurant just down the street- great food, nice staff and reasonably priced. The complex's pools were nice but not very clean. The hot tub attached to the infinity pool was at most luke warm and all the pools are not heated - refreshing but on the cool side. The apartment seemed to have older linens and towels. The shower would not keep a consistent temperature it was either too hot or cold. The thing that really grossed out the kids were a few cockroaches in the kitchen that we observed on the first night of the stay and then another later in the trip. We kept all our food in the fridge to keep the roaches away.
We had a hard time getting a ferry out to Culebra island, also left many messages to biobay boat tour excursions and never got a call back... we don't know if they operate all year round.
The drive to Fajardo is around 1 hr from the Airport. In general, driving in Puerto Rico was a joke. Essentially, no rules apply. We saw a number of accidents and felt that it was a comedy show nearly every time we went out. People ran lights, an elderly lady walked across the middle of a busy four lane street with a cane stopping traffic. One can't tell if the on coming traffic is able to go when you are at a stop light. There are nearly no arrows to show that you have the green right of way for a left across traffic and people take double lefts or you have to push through with a horn to go straight. People park in the middle of the road, cross anywhere, and don't get out of the way of emergency vehicles (police or ambulances). Think bumper cars that occasionally use brakes. No we did not get in an accident just a couple near misses.
Should we have expected more in Puerto Rico? I don't know but we don't plan on going back.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry that your visit to our island and property has not been satisfactory. This is the first time that a tenant says there are small cockroaches in my apartment. The cleanliness and quality of my property is faultless and it is more than proven in the 62 five-star reviews.
I would not have been bothered if you would've notified at the moment to act immediately. Regarding the towels and sheets, I just wanted to let you know that they are practically new and will also we leave you a new set of sheets for each bed in each of the closets which you had the opportunity to use in your stay.
I also regret that you did not enjoy the activities outside the complex and that you lost some of your valuable time in traffic while you could have enjoyed the natural beauties that exist in Fajardo and the nearby areas ... since it is one of the best touristic areas. In which there are but not limited to El Yunque, the Bio-Bay, the Blue Flag Beaches, Culebra and Vieques islands.
Anyway, I wanted to let you know that you and your family are more than welcome to our island and apartment at any time.

Four of us (2 couples) stayed in #306. Owned by Waldemar Ortiz, it is located on the third floor but has ground access without need for stairs or elevator.
The apartment is indeed big enough for 8 people and has a free assigned double parking spot only steps away, outside the apartment. We found that renting a car is a must to get around the island.
When we arrived at Waldemar's apartment, we were cordially greeted by him, his wife Dolly and son Jean-Paul. They took us around their clean, cozy apartment... the photos don't do it justice! Our hosts even had Easter chocolates and ice already made for us; there is not a single thing we can think of that the apartment doesn't have ... from a cooler, numerous beach toys and towels, sun-tan lotion, ironing tools etc. The kitchen is well equipped with all functional appliances and dishes required . Waldemar and his family also took us on a tour of the whole complex which is extremely secure ... 24 hour security gate and guards.
We used only two of the 3 pools, our favorite was the one with the jacuzzi which offers a breath taking post card view of the atlantic, where on the same level you can find a well equipped inside gymnasium and public washroom.
The apartment has a well-furnished veranda overlooking the marina. We found that the best beach near the complex is about a 15 minutes drive to the town of Luquillo, which offers less shops and restaurants than Farjardo which has excellent dining places. All the restaurants we were at in Fajardo offer excellent food, our favorite was Calizo. The Caribbean-side beaches are not worth driving to ... you'll end up driving long distances to find some of them even dangerous to swim in, like Ponce which is advertised as one of the best beaches, but is not. We would have liked to take the ferry to the island of Culebra, but discovered that is was necessary to make a reservation in advance. All in all, staying at Waldemar's was a very positive experience, location-wise and we are very thankful to him and his family for being such wonderful hosts.
On another positive note, I wish to mention that our security deposit was refunded to us in less than 24 hours !
A lot of hotels have a lot to learn from the Ortiz family!

Perfect place to stay in Fajardo!!

Our stay here couldn't have been nicer!! Fajardo is the perfect location if you want to be visit San Juan and stay out of the city! This condo is very lovely and was everything and more that was described! Very clean, with everything you will need for your vacation. Lots of space...perfect for families!! We felt very safe with the 24 hour security. Waldemar and his family were very helpful in answering questions and suggesting activities. We loved the centralized location to beautiful beaches and the gorgeous Rain Forest. We especially loved taking the ferries to Calebra and Vieques Islands!! The ferries are only five minutes away and after a day of exploring and a ferry ride home...it was awesome to be able to be back at our home away from home in five minutes instead of a 40 minute car ride back to San Juan! We loved our stay in Puerto Rico and would recommend this condo to anyone!!

Nice and Comfortable

Our group of 6 just returned from our stay in Puerto Rico. We spent a week at this property and we felt right at home. The property looked exactly as described in the pictures. The furniture and beds were comfortable.
The owners were beyond professional in communicating with us about our upcoming stay about the property and the local area. We felt very safe with the secure complex. A time or two when we returned to the property the guard who opens the gate for you to enter was away doing rounds so we had to wait for them to return.
The property faces the main street so most of our time was spent on the balcony reading and watching the activities on the bay with the boats across the street and the passersby heading to the local beach. You are a few minutes from many food stands and beaches, although we ate in our room most nights.
The only thing we felt that could have made this stay more outstanding was an upgrade in the linens and some of the kitchen utensils. We found the bath and beach towels thin and lacking in plush and found them a bit rough on the skin and the kitchen knives were dull and hard to use. This was the only negative thing we felt about the place and beyond that we felt the owners took great pride in the unit and personally were attentive to ensuring that anyone staying there could make it a home away from home. The owners are literally a phone call away so that felt nice to know that if any problems arose they'd be there immediately to address them.
The town itself had a few grocery stores, a health food store and pharmacy. You are not lacking for any items you may need to purchase while staying in this area.
If you are visiting this area you can feel quite at home staying here!

Absolutely Perfect

We had a wonderful time at Waldemar's condo. The condo itself was beautiful, and the location was perfect -- right across the street from the marina, and very close to several great restaurants. The condo is also less than a 10 minute drive to the beach and ferries. Everything about our stay was great, we will definitely stay here again.

Our family chose Pena Mar for our Christmas vacation and we are so glad we did! Waldemar was great to work with and treated us like friends. The condo is right across the street from the harbor and with the coquis croaking at night, it was very serene. Each bedroom is spacious and there is plenty of room for moving around without running into each other and the kitchen is fully equipped and quite large (always a plus when cooking Christmas dinner for a large group!). We loved the location in Fajardo, near beaches, the bio bay, El Yunque, and ferries to the other islands. Our kids loved the swimming pools, which are right outside the front door. We plan to return whenever we are in PR.

The owners were very friendly and greeted us at the apartment upon our arrival. They gave us a quick walk through of the apartment and property. The apartment is very well kept, clean and simply beautiful. They included many extras like beach toys, sunscreen, beach umbrellas, beach towels for use during our stay. Pena Mar is a quiet gated community, easily accessible from the highway. The location is close to the ferry which goes to Culebra and Vieques. There are many restaurants nearby, but our absolute favorite is Tasca Ole Lelolai. My family and I have stayed at many of the areas larger resorts in the past, which is much more expensive especially considering that all hotels in PR charge a ridiculous rate for daily parking in additional to the daily room rate. We had a much more enjoyable and affordable experience here. The pools and gym are very well kept. Unlike my prior stays at larger resorts, I didn't have to wake up at sunrise just to secure a lounge chair. For the most part the pools were pretty empty, which was an added bonus! We have already made arrangements to stay here again this Spring.

Perfect family or group getaway

The condo was clean, comfy, well equipped (even with things I hadn't thought of), conveniently located, and Waldo's family was very kind and helpful. My family enjoyed the pools and loved hanging out on the porch. We took day trips to El Yunque, Luquillo beach, San Juan, and kayaked the bio bay at night (5 minute drive). Would highly recommend this rental and our family loved the trip to Puerto Rico!
