This Leiden vacation rental is located in a renovated eighteenth-century residence. The apartment with its high windows is very bright and airy and is and cheerfully outfitted with comfortable, modern furnishings. It is laid out in an open floor plan, which includes kitchenette, living and dining areas and a sleeping loft reached via a short staircase. The kitchenette is compact, yet efficient and has everything you will need. Communal laundry facilities are located on the ground floor.

One of Leiden's prettiest canals is right behind the building. Lovely walks along the canals, past picturesque gabled Dutch houses, start right at your doorstep. Leiden is strategically located between Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague, putting most of Holland at your fingertips. The bus stop is just 3 minutes from the vacation rental, and a 20-minute walk (or bus) takes you to the Leiden train station. The residential neighborhood offers convenient shopping, with a food and flower shops.

About Leiden: Leiden, a picturesque Dutch city of about 114,000, is located on a branch of the Rhine River, some 30 minutes southwest of Amsterdam. Laced with peaceful canals and gabled Dutch houses, Leiden is most famous for its university, which is the oldest and most renowned in the Netherlands. Leiden played an important role in Dutch history and in the development of Dutch painting, so it is no surprise that some of the country’s best museums and galleries are located here. The city has had its share of famous residents: Rembrandt was born here; Jan Steen painted here; and Albert Einstein taught here. Leiden is a very walkable city and has maintained a small-town atmosphere. Visitors enjoy a variety of ethnic restaurants, cozy cafes, bookshops, an outdoor market held twice a week, shopping in a pedestrian precinct, as well as banks, ATMs and several large supermarkets. From Leiden, all of the Netherlands is at your doorstep.

Excellent stay in Rembrandt apartment

First rate stay in wonderful older building, remodeled enough to be comfortable, but not too much to spoil old world charm. Apartment was clean, support staff very helpful. Our only downside is that we have bad backs and would have been more comfortable with firmer mattresses, but mattresses probably ok for most. Will definite book again in this building if we visit Leiden again!
Owner's Response: The mattresses were replaced in 2011. We have not had complaints from other guests.

We had a wonderful stay in our Jan Steen apartment in Leiden. The apartment was comfortable and had a wonderful view over the canals. We were warmly received by our host Edmund, who provided us with lots of info to make getting around Leiden so much easier.
Next time we visit our families in Holland we will definetely try and stay in this wonderful place again.
Owner's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed our apartment in Leiden. You were lucky to meet Edmund. He lives in Amsterdam and is usually not available to give this kind of information. Our local host will normally just let you into the apartment, orient you to the building, and give you the key.

A wonderful week in Leiden

This apartment in Leiden is a wonderful location for exploring a lot of Holland but it always felt wonderful to return to our apartment and relax at cafes along the canals. We had wonderful breakfasts and quick response form our hosts whenever we had a question or request. Wehighly recommend this property.
