A risky rental, especially if with kids; we had 2. Property is dangerous and not as nice as the pics. Owner is deceitful. PROPERTY: is maybe 3Ksf not 5Ksf. Guesthouse has a long-term tenant. Property ISN'T luxurious. It's old with updates like AC. Parts of house in disrepair. Doors don't close/lock properly including some outer-doors; leaving you unsecure. Spiral staircase has glass landings, no risers, and is a hazard to children; esp if feet are wet. Fridge leaked onto floor. Carpets-stained. Bed linens-filthy. Main room AC and DVD player-broken. No Soaps provided. Broken grill took days to be repaired. Exposed plumbing and wiring all over. Pool area has PVC pipes, protruding 7in from the ground. Makeshift pool stairs are sharp, unstable cinder blocks. ΒΌ of the pool is 4ft deep then drops-off sharply to the rest of the pool which is 9ft. Beach isn't private b/c guesthouse tenants have access and frequently use. Few sandy areas on the beach=limited use given the tides. Lots of glass=a hazard to walk. Pier is nice but only useful for fishing. OWNER: agreed to refund any credit card fees for the rental; he did not, and on top of this charged exchange rate fees from GBP to USD. Upon arriving we e-mailed owner to alert him that items were missing, broken or dirty. His response: WE were 'unpleaseable' and if unhappy, we could leave (without our money); really. Pre-booking we asked if there was any nearby construction. He said no; yet, next door, pylons were driven into the sea-bed all week for construction of a pier. Our deposit and credit-card fees were never returned. After a month of e-mailing and calling, we filed a fraud complaint with the credit card. The owner finally returned our e-mail with: "I need your credit card details the (one) you used thanks". When I informed him that we filed a vendor fraud complaint with the card company which instructed us to have him deal directly with the company, he wrote back: "After close inspection a refund was not due to the power used you actually still owe me some USD but I will over look this as a good will gesture. Case closed". We're still owed over $600 and there is no way possible we used anywhere near that amount of power. We have a photo collage depicting the problems, but homeaway forbade us from posting the link. House alone would get 2-3 stars, but we would not trust the owner enough to risk it plus many better homes are available. We expect owner to concoct a 'less than honest' response to this review.
