We eagerly returned for a second year to Hammerstone. Once again it met all our expectations plus. Reiterating some of last year's comments, it is a wonderfully located, well-equipped desert retreat. We managed a myriad of activities - morning walks, mountain hikes, golf, road trips (to San Xavier, Tubac, and the Amerind Foundation), great dining, and always the mountain shadows in the evening. Can't wait to come back!

We stayed here in April 2010. We have heard claims that various times of the year are best for visiting Tucson, but I don't think we could have chosen a better time. The weather was exceptional for us. The temperatures were very comfortable, not too warm during the day and not to cool in the evening. It was a great time for being outdoors. The desert was in bloom everywhere you looked. For us it was mostly about the outdoors, but we found so many interesting places to see and things to do inside as well. And the variety of great food to be found, mmm! Need I say more?

However, the best part of our trip has to be the house. So centrally located that, we could go out on day trips every day and have plenty of time to get back to the house, grill up some dinner on the BBQ, and sit back in the comfy patio chairs and enjoy the spectacular sunsets on the mountains.

The house is a great place to call home while you’re there. It is very comfortable, clean, well maintained, in a quiet residential neighborhood, and the only thing we needed to bring was some food and ourselves. We didn't find a single thing missing that could have made it any better. We really look forward to returning. We want to try a different time of year next time, and look forward to having just as great a time. Regardless of the time of year, we know that the house will still be the best retreat we have ever found. Thank you for sharing your house with us and we look forward to another trip south soon.

I had the good fortune of calling this beautiful house my home-base during the February 2009 Tucson Gem and Mineral show. The neighborhood was quiet, so we had no problems getting lots of rest after a full day of shopping. The view of the mountains was spectacular and very calming after a long day.
All cooking utensils and pots and pans that we needed were in the home and ready for use after an excursion to one of the nearby grocery stores. The furniture was quite comfortable and I felt completely at home curling my legs underneath me with a glass of wine, after a day exploring the Gem and Mineral show.
I am looking forward to my next trip to the Tucson Gem and Mineral show and staying at this home in Oro Valley.

There are usually some negatives, but in this case there were none. The house is perfect for a couple, but could take another two as occasional overnight guests. The furniture was comfy, the kitchen was well equipped - plenty of glasses, dishes and nice cookware. Nice Wi-Fi setup.

The outside ramada faces the mountains and there are spectacular sunsets every evening. Just pour a glass of wine and watch the show!

The location is perfect - easy access to hiking trails in Catalina State Park - 1/2 hour from downtown Tucson. So many attractions - much better than Phoenix - much more natural desert. If you come, don't miss Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, Mission San Xavier del Bac, Tubac, Sabino Canyon and all that the University of Arizona offers to the public.
