Convenience, Comfort, and Charm
Since you will fall in love with Venice, this wonderful apartment makes a convenient and comfortable location to consummate your love affair with La Serenissima. We arrived by cruise ship, viewing a light sprinkling of snow on the rooftops of the city. The Gaffaro apartment was a short (10 minutes or less) walk from the 'people mover'. We were met by Sebastiano (owner - native son of Venice), and welcomed into the warm apartment. Sebastiano was very generous with his time in showing us the apartment and in giving us suggestions to make our week special. We have stayed in about a dozen VRBO properties over the past decade, and can honestly say that Sebastiano was the friendliest and most patient host that we've met. The apartment has a very modern kitchen, fully equipped for cooking (why one would cook when in Italy is beyond me, but you do have the option!). The bed was very comfortable, our adult daughter traveled with us and slept well on the sleeper sofa. The bath is quite modern and spotlessly clean. You can pack light, because you have a washing machine in the apartment.
What makes this apartment extra special is it's location. Look at the pictures on the VRBO page. Yes, you have a view of 2 canals and 3 bridges. Imagine sipping a glass of wine, while gazing out the windows. Where else in the world will you see mail delivered by boat, see a water ambulance, a police boat, watch a UPS boat loaded with packages, see trash collected by barge, expensive yachts, water taxis, and did we mention gondolas. We saw couples passing by on gondolas every day. There is a church a few hundred yards away with bells that sound like wind chimes. While the canals in front of the apartment are very busy, and while the apartment is very convenient for the train and ship terminals, the street itself is very quiet. It is not on a major walk-way for tourists. You are surrounded by locals. There are cafes, shops, piazzas, historic sights, and canal after canal within a few minutes walk of the Gaffaro. We enjoy walking and found that we could reach any location in the city within an hour. If you don't enjoy walking, there are water busses and taxis everywhere. We will add our recommendation to the millions of others that have fallen under Venice's charms, walk out your front door and get lost. It's easy to do, will probably happen anyway, and it just might become your favorite memory.
Venice was friendly, quiet, and felt very safe. We love 'off-season' travel.
