This was an excellent experience. I come to Maine twice a year for school, and summer time can be difficult as far as accommodations go. The loft is quiet, comfortable, and is surrounded by beauty. I was even lucky enough to hear the mama fox howling in the night! I even saw her once. Joan and Mark are incredibly welcoming and helpful hosts - when I couldn't get my crappy netbook to work, they loaned me one of their computers. I really would recommend this spot, as it's close enough to all the stores in downtown Freeport, but removed enough to still enjoy a relaxing getaway. It's also really close to a pretty nice grocery store, and not far from an all natural grocery, as well. My only warning would be that the loft does not have air conditioning, and if you're sensitive to the heat, it might be a problem in the summer. I'm from down South, so it was plenty cool for me with just the fans. I had a wonderful time.

My husband and I rented this beautiful loft the second week in August 2011. The loft is comfortable and the owners have provided everything you need. We were greeted as we arrived on Saturday morning and made to feel very comfortable. The loft is separate from the house and is quiet and cozy. We did run all three fans for the entire visit of the week. Had the weather been warmer we would have been looking for an air conditioner as the space over the garage can hold the heat of the day quite nicely.
The loft is just a short walk down the road to a couple of beaches. Tides are important here if you want to swim. The views are wonderful and peaceful.
The owners have collected lots of information about things to do in the area and have put together a great list of opportunities. Do them! Joan & Mark were very available for questions if we had them. Freeport offers many different ways to enjoy your stay.
We brought our road bikes are were very happy we did. Not only did the owners throw a tarp over them when it rained, but the whole area is very bike friendly. There are miles and miles of great rides.
We will definitely be back!

We just came back today and had to review this perfect rental. I brought my daughter and her friend. The loft is just as pictured, but with a more comfortable couch. The kitchen was furnished with everything we needed so we were able to make ourselves right at home and didn't need to eat out for every meal.

Freeport is about an 8 minute drive (lots of curving roads) and it's about a 5 minute walk to the closest ROW. The girls enjoyed looking for rocks and shells. I took evening walks around the area and every person (and dog) I came across were very friendly.

Joan and Mark were fabulous from the minute I contacted them. Joan sent directions and their favorite places in the area. The apartment was open for us with the keys right there so we didn't have to wait around to track them down. All e-mails and questions were answered in a timely matter.

I would definitely recommend this apartment to someone and would stay here again. It is extremely clean - big plus! Do keep in mind, there is no air conditioning but a ceiling fan, a stand-up fan and a box fan which we used the first night as it was quite hot. Other nights, we slept with the windows and door open (there is a screen door to the deck) and enjoyed a cool breeze.

We drove to Boothbay Harbor, enjoy the Cabbage Island Clambake, drove to Portland Headlight and Reid State Park. All were no more than an hour's drive. We ate at Haraseeket Lunch and Lobster (excellent), Amato's (average), Linda's Bean lobster roll place (my favorite lobster roll so far) and the Sea Dog in Topsham. We shopped at Shaw's and the wonderful Bow Street Market (loved it, except they don't carry Lucky Charms). We shopped in Freeport and enjoyed the archery and kayak walk-on adventures at L.L.Bean (sign up ahead of time) and shopped at Land's End Gifts at the tip of Bailey Island.

The only thing that I would love to see Mark and Joan add are more hooks in the bathroom. With three girls taking showers every day, and only one towel bar, it was difficult to find places to hang them, Extra added bonuses - books, games and the firepit for a night of s'mores!

We had a fantastic time - clean living space, friendly and helpful owners - if you are thinking of staying here - you won't regret it!
