Lake Location: Our charming, updated house is located directly on Lake Rescue w/ a large yard and 67 feet of lakefront with access to kayaking, canoeing and swimming. The village of Ludlow, Vermont contains many fine shops and restaurants, from candlelight dining to steak and seafood houses, Chinese or Thai food, a Subway shop and great pizza.

While nearby Chester is known for its fine antique stores. Weston, only a 15-minute drive away, is home to the famous Vermont Country Store and also the beautiful Weston Priory. Manchester, Vermont is well known for its many designer factory outlets and Woodstock, Vermont for picture post-card beauty and typical New England charm.

Summer & Fall: In summer, it is the perfect place to spend a family vacation. There is fishing, swimming, kayaking and boating right in the back yard. You can relax on the deck or down at the lake in the sun any time of day. The yard is large and slopes down to the lake where the water is shallow and safe for children to wade. The lake is stocked with fish - perch, bass, and trout. Two kayaks and a canoe are available for you to explore Lake Rescue. In the fall, the foliage is spectacular. It is also a great place to enjoy a hike in the surrounding woods or antiquing in neighboring towns. For the golf enthusiast, the beautiful and recently renovated and expanded 18-hole Okemo Valley/Fox Run Golf course is 2 miles away.

Winter/Ski: The world class Okemo Mountain & Jackson Gore Resort is 3 miles away, and the Killington and Pico Resort is 18 miles for skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing. Lake Rescue usually has excellent conditions for cross-country skiing and the scenery is always beautiful. A full loop of the lake is approximately four miles. If you tire of exploring Lake Rescue, Echo Lake and Amherst Lake are easy to reach via interconnecting trails. Nearby Okemo Valley/Fox Run Cross Country Ski Center has extensive groomed trails for classical or skating skiers. Ice fisherman love the lakes, and when the conditions are right, the ice skating is also good. Snowmobiles can utilize the lakes and the nearby access to all the interconnecting ski trails that Vermont offers (one-fourth mile from Lake Rescue). In addition, our sloped yard is a perfect place for smaller children to sled.

We rented the house for a short ski vacation. We loved the location of it as it is so close to the slopes, downtown and other amenities like the resort with sledding slope. We also loved the fact that once we were done skiing, we didn't have to deal with the traffic that unfortunately accumulates from all the cars trying to go back downtown. The house is very well maintained, very comfortable and everything worked well. There are also a whole bunch of games and movies available and we truly enjoyed those too. The owners are wonderful and very responsive.Overall we had an outstanding experience and we will certainly want to come back.

A Breath of Fresh Air

My husband and I stayed at the lake house for a week at the end of June. Our main purpose was to relax and was the perfect place for that. Everything was just as described and the cottage was extremely clean. It had all the things we needed to make our stay convenient and comfortable. We were especially pleased with the owners' willingness to answer any questions and to communicate with us. We were never made to feel as though we were bothering them. They were always accessible and provided several numbers to contact them should the need arise.
The cottage was easy to find and was directly off route 100. There were only two of us , but you could easily fit 8 people. It was fully equipped with everything you would need except for your own food. Although you could hear cars when sitting on the porch, it was not a problem or a nuisance. The area was lovely, especially all the tall pine trees that left the air smelling so clean and fresh. The lake and the use of the kayaks and water floats were a nice perk. The lake was quiet with only an occasional fishing boat. We loved being able to take a daily paddle and had plenty of lake to explore. The neighbors were kind, friendly and quiet. We were also able to take walks around the lake on the side roads with very little traffic. The homes were spectacular!
There are many nice day trips and things nearby to explore. We enjoyed Woodstock, Weston, and Manchester. Ludlow has some good restaurants. The steaks at Sam's were great. The nearby sugar shack has Vermont syrup, coffee and maple ice cream to enjoy.
It is best to do most of your food shopping before you arrive. The grocery store Shaw's is good for basics, but there isn't much compared to larger cities or at home. There is a Shaw's shopper's card at the cottage so you can get the sale items. It was another little thoughtful thing left for renter's convenience.
Overall, I would highly recommend this place. It would certainly be great for skiers as it it super close to Okemo Mountain and other ski areas.
We hope we will be lucky enough to return to this cottage/ home in the future.

The house was as listed. It was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. It is very close and convenient to skiing at Jackson Gore and Okemo. Close to the lake which made it very easy to go ice finshing, just walk out the door an onto the lake. We slept 7 adults in the house comfortably. The owners were very responsive and answered all of our questions. It was a great family get away. My father in-law is thinking about coming back again to enjoy more ice fishing.

What a relaxing vacation spot with lots to do for kids and adults, at the house or close by. The house was perfect for the 5 of us. The house was very, very clean and updated with what seems like new "everything". Loved the open concept of the main floor. The lake is clean and the location has no boat traffic so its safe for kids using the kayaks and canoe. Ludlow has many restaurants to go to and a few shops to check out as well. My daughter appreciated the wireless internet, we will definitely be returning.

The property listing was very fair & accurate. There was very little boat traffic on the lake making it quiet and peaceful. Being on the cove meant shallow water but a very calm spot. It was an excellent place for me to learn to kayak!

The house was charming & comfortable, with all the modern updates (bathrooms & kitchen, washer & dryer, big flat screen tv, cable). The house was very clean, including furniture, towels & linens... which made for a great night's sleep! We had wine & appetizers at the picnic table next to the lake and enjoyed the sunsets. It was hot, but even with no a/c the house was comfortable due to being in the shade and near the lake.

The Ludlow location is perfect for taking little trips around VT to see the sites. The area has much to offer with the lake, golf, skiing, the gorgeous Green Mountains, interesting shops & breweries. The local people were friendly & helpful. A helpful bartender gave us the scoop on restaurants, where to go tubing, etc. The roads around the lake are low traffic and great for a morning walk. There are limited restaurants and shops in Ludlow (some with limited summer hours), but we had no trouble finding good places to eat. The Shaw's Grocery store (in Ludlow) had a good overall selection, including steak & wine. We loved the drive to the park above Jackson Gore Ski Resort. Beautiful vistas and picnic spots!

The property is close to Rt. 100, which wasn't a problem since we couldn't hear any traffic from inside the house or by the lake.

The owners of the house were so helpful and cooperative before, during, and after our stay. The financial transaction was easy. All of my questions were quickly & thoroughly answered. I felt like I was dealing with friends. Their wonderful customer service added to the ease and enjoyment of the entire vacation!

We will recommend this house to our friends and hope to visit again.

The only negative...we had to leave!
