The Peaceable Kingdom
It pains me to even write this as it may contribute to direct competition to rent this wonderful house, view and land. We have been there twice now in both summer and winter and both times have been exceptional. The house is great, with loads of windows and views of the mountains, as well as a sun-room in which we ate every single meal in on the last trip. The house has a nice open lay-out and the upstairs has a very large bedroom (with serious play space) and a smaller bedroom and full bath. Waking up in the downstairs bedroom is pretty Utopian. Every morning should be filled with mountains in the distance, fields and trees (and the smell of lilacs in the spring). The land surrounding the house is also (again) great; wonderful cross-country ski-trails, literally out the back door, we spent hours and hours exploring. In the summer, great for walking and finding/hearing all sorts of forest dwellers. I lost track of how many hours I spent on the front porch just enjoying the view and listening to the warblers. The area has a great array of outdoor activities and Lyndonville has an excellent outdoors shop for rentals and gear (fishing, biking, kayaking, clothes) with great staff and prices (Village Sports). Great hiking, great back road biking (and challenging), fishing and kayaking/canoeing. That is just during the warm months; I still have designs on Burke Mountain for downhill skiing. I didn't get to it last winter because I was enjoying the trails out back so much.
If you enjoy being outside, quiet, nature, and sitting around eating you have found yourself a good spot here. Oh, the owners are just as great as the land too.
