Photos and Description of the Rhinebeck vacation house rental
6 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, sleeps 10

Your very own mini-farm in the heart of the country. 17+ acres with 3 ponds and a stream and trails right on the property, perfect for horse back riding and hiking in the nice weather, cross country skiing when it turns winter. In the light-filled, art-filled house, you can throw huge dinner parties for the whole gang and have everyone stay over. There are 6 bedrooms, two so enormous, they have their own sitting areas. There are 4 bathrooms, 2 en suite.

The mid-century house was recently redone by an architect/ artist and full of unusual touches like the kitchen counter made with parsley. Yes, parsley! You can hang out on the patio or lounge outside in back, curl up in the library, warm your toes on the WBF or hide upstairs in the gangster party room.

Did we mention hiking trail with a veiw of the Berkshires from the top? And we're only two miles from two public golf courses -- Carvel which is just off the Taconic and the Red Hook Country Club on Route 199. Lots to do!

Winter Wonderland: Ever dream of living right on a ski resort? Well, if we get snow- you can! The winding 17 acres of Winding Road Farm allows cross country skiing- right out the door! Warm-up apres ski at your very own working fireplace.

And no snow? No problem- Catamount, Hunter, Belayre and Windham, with their state-of-the-art snow making abilities are a short drive away.

Great Meeting Point

Submitted: March 14, 2013 Stayed: March 2013
We had a great time. The house was big enough for all of us and did not feel crowded. We used to all live in Syracuse NY and meet at each others house but it is not possible now that we live in NJ, MA and NY. So it was nice to have a house away from home where we could meet.

We went for a walk at Poet's walk (beautiful view, a tad muddy). Everybody was happy with the house.

Girl's Weekend

Girl's Weekend

The house was exactly what we were looking for as far as accomodations. We were 11 women who every year go away for a few days. The bedrooms and baths were enough. The bedrooms were clean but 2 of the bedrooms had no shades on windows. The bathrooms were clean and new like..

The kitchen was a disappointment. The floors were not clean. There was an ant problem. The stainless steel refrigerator was clean inside but the outside was horrible. There is a stainless steel cleaner that is sold in Ace Hardware that would have made a big difference. Same for dishwasher.

The lighting over the kitchen table is not bright enough.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your thoughtful review. I am glad you had an enjoyable girl's weekend. The floor plan of the house is certainly well suited to large groups. I am sorry you found the kitchen not up to your standards of cleanliness. We pride ourselves on providing a clean property as you saw in the bathroom and bedrooms. In fact, we have only had one other complaint over the years. I did go over to the house today and did not see any ants although I did purchase some traps just in case. We also have a new stainless steel cleaner so no more streaky appliances!

Great House and Property

5 of 5
Submitted: January 4, 2013 Stayed: December 2012
The house was great! We went with a group of 6 couples and we all had plenty of space. The house was kept very clean. The property is beautiful, although we got a huge snowstorm while we were there! I was very happy that the owners had someone come and plow the driveway, so we didn't have to worry about getting out.

All in all, it was a great trip- I highly recommend the house and hope to be back!
Owner's Response: Hi Lauren:

So glad that you and your friends enjoyed ringing in the New Year at Winding Road Farm. Our snow plow guy does do a great job so our guests don't miss out on experiencing all that the Hudson Valley has to offer (including several ski resorts within an hour drive)! Please come back and visit soon!

Beautiful property, HUGE house!

The house was fantastic, exactly as described and even larger than we expected it to be! The amenities and layout were as detailed, everything was clean and well-maintained. My friends and I rented the house for a week so we could all stay together while attending a friend's wedding in Rhinebeck. The entire experience was fantastic and I would definitely recommend renting this property.
The management was extremely responsive and friendly, and they are close by.
Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay. I am sure the wedding was amazing! We have another bridal party staying this week! The Rhinebeck area is a beautiful wedding locale. Hope you will visit again. Leaf season is coming up and ski season is around the corner! Look forward to seeing you again!

Rural Retreat

4 of 5
Submitted: August 7, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
If you are looking for a retreat from the busy-ness of modern life, this is the house for you. Our family booked this house with the intention of reconnecting with some family in the area and were able to do so pleasantly. The location is very close to the Taconic Parkway and an easy drive to either Rhinebeck or Red Hook. The grounds were enjoyed by all whether hiking, fishing or just relaxing. Everyone hiked the trails and the children had fun with the seesaw and croquet set . The far pond did yield some fish (caught & released) to the pleasure of my husband and children. The house is big with a good layout, spacious rooms and fun art. We found plenty of space to move around and relax. Casual dining was easy and I had no trouble preparing and serving meals for us and our guests, sometimes almost 20 people!

We did encounter a few downsides, however. As the previous reviewer commented, we also found our socks black at the end of every day. Some people in our group minded this more than others. Also, although water pressure in the sinks was fine, it was terrible in the showers making it very difficult to rinse off. While I found most of the linens and towels that we needed, more serviceable washcloths would have been appreciated.

The owner and property manager provided prompt customer service once a problem was reported and did their utmost to find solutions. One persistent problem which was not solved was a very poor phone connection. With no cell phone coverage, a stronger house phone connection would be essential in an emergency.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from the hectic pace of daily life.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your thoughtful review. We are glad that you and your family enjoyed the house and the surrounding property. The kids looked like they were having blast and I am glad you enjoyed some grown up time too! I apologize that the water pressure was inadequate. I have spoken to the current guests and was assured that the pressure is now working properly. I also went to Home Goods (a fabulous store) and purchased some more wash cloths. As far as the telephone, it is now working fine. So glad that it wasn't needed in an emergency! Finally, the socks turning black. I consulted with both the internet and a local hardwoods salesman. It seems the product that we have been using-"the original formula that safely cleans wood and much more" (which is a pure vegetable oil soap and probably the most popular cleaner of wood in existence) is leaving a residue on our floors. We are now switching to PolyCare so hopefully the black sock problem will be a thing of the past! Thanks again for writing and we hope you will visit us again!

Farm?

3 of 5
Submitted: July 15, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
While the setting of this "mini-farm" was beautiful, the house itself and surrounding grounds proved disappointing and not necessarily as advertised. When a traveler chooses a site, the description needs to match the actual house; this did not. One of the biggest issues was that although air conditioning was advertised in the listing, we found the units in the closets and not in the windows. When we called on Sat, the owner did not arrive to put them in the windows until Wednesday, resulting in some uncomfortable nights. While 17+ acres of trails were advertised, the condition of the grounds was overgrown and unkempt so that the trails were inaccessible. Again, it wasn't until the owner arrived on Wednesday that the pathways to the ponds were mowed and we could get there. The listing mentioned parking in the garage but because there was wood stacked inside it, we had to park outside. Sadly, the house was not clean upon our arrival. Pots and pans were grease-caked, there were live and dead bugs throughout and even mildew in the showers. When we walked on the bare floors, our socks turned black quickly. The towels were thin and stiff and really need to be replaced. Although the listing states the house sleeps 10/12, seating at the dining room table was barely comfortable at 8 (if you don't include the broken chair) and seating in the living room area likewise really only comfortably accommodated 5-6 people. The kitchen needs a mixer, cereal bowls and water glasses. and if there were alarm clocks in the bedrooms, we didn't find them. There was a 5 burner stove, but only three pots. Did you know that one of the oven racks tilts and falls when you lay a pan on it? We had to break into the thermostats when the heat, yes, the heat came on that first warm night at 3 in the morning. There were no instructions about such basics although eventually we found a key in a drawer.
On the positive side, the house layout was lovely, the board games we found were fun, the neighbors were friendly, the wifi worked great, and we loved the nature sightings of birds, deer, chipmunks, rabbits, and one magical night hundreds and hundreds of fireflies flitting from stem to stem, like an invasion of Tinker Bells. The website description raised expectations that simply weren't met, resulting in a disappointing experience. With some description revision and additional owner attention, this house can indeed be a wonderful and comfortable experience for future renters.
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are sorry that Winding Road farm did not meet with your expectations but do feel that the description advertised does fit the house and its surrounds. After reading your comments, we did decide to take the air conditioning out of the advertisement. While we do provide window units in the bedrooms, we often dont put them in until the summer swelter. In fact, we dont even have them in our own homes as the night air typically provides a cool breeze!

We were quite dismayed to hear that this reviewer found the house less than immaculate. We have a cleaning service come in and as evidenced by all the other favorable reviews, we have NEVER had a complaint. We did learn on the Tuesday of this guests stay that our cleaner was having hip surgery. Clearly, she was not at the top of her game when she cleaned for this guest. The cleaner stays on top of things both inside and outside the home and alerts management to things that need to be taken care of . We were sorry that the cleaners malady impacted our guest and tried to ameliorate things as soon as we were learned of the situation.

Our kitchen and dining areas are spacious and our guests have hosted both Thanksgiving and Easter dinners. It is a well appointed, well stocked kitchen with stainless steel appliances including a 6 burner stove. We have several sized pots and most gadgets although the Thanksgiving guest did need to bring his own electric carving knife!. If you have a request for something, please ask us prior to your arrival and we will do our best to accommodate.

Prior to visiting Winding Road Farm, you are given an agreement with a number of How to items included. If you arrive late at night you already know where to find the keys to get it. Upon entering the home, you will find another key, house guide and a guide to the area. Everything is right on the kitchen counter. The Hudson Valley is a lovely place to explore with plenty to do. And Winding Road Farm for almost all of our guests has been a wonderful, enjoyable home base to experience this beautiful part of the North East.

KOKOMO 17/The Best!

We have been going away as a department for 17 years! This, by far was the best experience! We like to play guitar and sing, without disturbing anyone and this is the place to be! It is a beautiful, funky and tastefully decorated house! There were common gathering areas as well as secluded places for a quiet chat!
We had a fabulous meal that we cooked in the spacious kitchen Friday night. On Saturday, we hiked the area in the morning, then went into Rhinebeck to explore and have lunch. Great day, perfect weather! There was a smaller crowd at the house Saturday night and we had a lovely evening chatting and talking about why we would want to go anywhere else for our annual getaway! This place is ALL it says it is and more! Thank you to Dana and her partners for opening your home!
Owner's Response: Hi Betsy:

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am glad it was a great weekend and that you appreciated the decor. The owner is an artist and much of the artwork in the house was done by him. He loves using recycled materials. You may have noticed the Patron tequila light fixture in the kitchen!

Please come back and visit soon!!!! Best, Dana

Expansive house, idyllic setting

We had a wonderful weekend enjoying this house and its beautiful setting. The house is huge - much bigger than we expected - and well appointed. We found everything easy to use and the location was great.
It is on a county road on which cars drive fast, but luckily the amount of traffic is very very sparse, like 1 or 2 cars per hour.
I would highly recommend staying here to anyone interested.
Thanks for the great experience !
Owner's Response: Hi Nat: Thanks for the kind words. So glad you enjoyed your stay. The house is definitely larger than you think when you first pull up. The downstairs flows nicely so you can all be together. But there are plenty of spaces for alone time! And the location is super convenient to get to Rhinebeck, Red Hook, the TSP etc. But you do feel like you are getting away from it all. I hope to see you again. Best, Dana, Property Manager

GREAT HOUSE

5 of 5
Submitted: February 27, 2012 Stayed: February 2012
This house was absolutely amazing. It was everything the owners and info on the site said it was. I have rented houses before that very much over-exaggerated the amenities in the house, this house was the exception. Not only was the house spacious, and very affordable for that space, but there were so many nice touches that we really appreciated. For example: there was a nice little selection of books and movies, there were PLENTY of towels, linens, and extra blankets, if you are there for an extended trip they have a washer and dryer AND the master bedroom has an AMAZING mattress, absolutely a wonderful night's sleep. In short our group had a great time and if we ever rent in the area again it will be in THIS house!
Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Please come again anytime!
