Relax and enjoy the peaceful tranquility that encompasses this island oasis located only 8 miles north of Hilo. Surrounded by 3,000 acres of agricultural land, mostly all of which is grassland for cattle now, you seem all alone in this most magical place. The sounds of the waterfall, the birds, and the gentle breezes that carry the sweet scented flowers will provide you with an unforgettable island experience.
Beautiful, breathtaking views of the ocean and Hilo Bay await you. The sunrises from the lanais are quite spectacular. If you are here during a full moon, this is a most beautiful place to experience the Hamakua coastline at night. From the open deck between the main house and the gazebo you can watch the moon rise from the ocean, see shooting stars, and we have been very fortunate to see many “moon bows”, a rare occurrence of a rainbow at night. The views of Mauna Kea are spectacular and breathtaking. Many photo opportunities await you. During the winter months the whales can be seen frolicking in the ocean, with snow capped mountains as the background.
Centrally located to all the Eastside attractions; Old Town Hilo is just 10 minutes away, where you will experience the feeling of Hilo of “days gone by”, as well as a new mixture of wonderful creations of local artists, craftsmen, and health-minded restaurants serving local food as well as delights from many different cultures. A large, and colorful “open market” on Wednesdays and Saturdays highlights the locally grown food, flowers, and handmade crafts. Hilo has many attractions for the visitor, far too many to list, and the Hamakua Coast area extends north from Hilo 40 miles to Honokaa, with many beautiful and interesting sights along the way; the Tropical Botanical Gardens at Onomea Bay, Akaka Falls, Honokaa town, and, Waipio Valley, just to mention a few. The Volcano National Park is to the south approximately one hours drive. This is the Big Island’s number one attraction and is a “once in a lifetime experience”. If the experience is a bit unnerving, be sure to check out the Volcano Winery, just minutes past Volcano National Park.
This lovely island style home is the center piece to the six acre Lanikohonua estate, and the home of Lani ko Honua Berry farm, where we grow organic raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, poha berries, and thimble berries. You will also find coffee, a large variety of fruits, vegetables, flowers, gourds, and rare and exotic tropical plants. The home, approximately 3,600 square feet, is a two story structure, with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen, living room, dining area, pantry with laundry, and a computer area upstairs. The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, convection oven, microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator-freezer, with black granite countertops and cherry cabinets. A large flat screen TV is in the living room, with DVD player, and CD player for music. Wireless high-speed internet with WI-Fi provided by Hawaii Broadband. The downstairs has a large bedroom and bath with a walk-in shower, and private lanai area which has the same spectacular ocean views as the upstairs, and is located next to the huge open deck and Gazebo area, which has views in all directions, and overlooks the 2 natural waterfalls that are on the property.
Lanikohonua rental is $250/night, with a 3 day minimum stay. Planning well in advance is advised. Extended stay discounts are available. Hawaii State Tax, security deposit, and cleaning fees are applicable. For inquiries, photos, or additional information please e-mail me. PLEASE BE ADVISED : this is a very private location---off the beaten path if you will---- . The road to the property from the highway is a little over 1 mile, a one lane road, part asphalt and mostly gravel. The gravel parts can sometimes get a bit rough. 4 wheel drive is not necessary, but cars low to the ground may experience some difficulties. For me, it seems a very small price to pay for such a location and privacy. Hope you agree.
I would also like to tell you that you will be staying on a working berry farm. You will see people around doing different farming tasks. The house is separated from the fields and processing station for the berries however so you have the privacy you expect. Just want you to know what goes on here and what to expect if you plan a visit. If you need additional information please email me with your requests.
This property was not purchased with a vacation rental in mind. It was just the most beautiful and peaceful place I had ever experienced. After being here for 3 years I have decided to share this amazing place with others. I hope you will accept this as an invitation to come and enjoy this bit of "heaven on earth".
Peace and Quiet, Fresh air and trade wind breezes, and a 360 degree view that is awesome, and the sounds of the waterfall. Huge ocean and mountain views in the middle of 3000 acres of open land.
